1. Canteen Recording.

This sound recording was done inside, in a large space with high ceilings, wooden chairs, metal tables and hard wooden floor. The high ceilings will come in handy so that the sound can spread more, however it is cut off with the brick walls which will reflect the sound and make it bounce back, wooden chairs will also absorb sound but the chair also has metal legs which sound will bounce off and it will reflect, there was a quite a lot of other people excluding us in the canteen.

Although where we recorded is a large space it is not open or empty and is filled with lots of different things such as tables, chairs and people. This has all affected the audio recording itself mainly due to other people being in the canteen, as in the recording there are people laughing at the beginning and faint talking in the back ground whilst the

Sound will bounce and reflect back because of the metal tables.

dialogue is being read. This is because there were quite a lot of people in this area talking and laughing and moving chairs around to sit down, which as you can tell in the recording drowns out some of the sound.

2. D Corridor Recording.

There are three doors very close to this area two indoor and one leading outside, one is glass which will reflect the sound but the other two are wooden and wood will absorb the sound. With it being a corridor there was a few people walking through, people will also absorb the sound. Although it is a long corridor it is very narrow, which is easier for the sound to be absorbed. The walls are filled with plastic boards that have pictures inside them; these will reflect the sound making it bounce.

Narrow space – not far for sound to travel.

Lots of these plastic boards all along both the walls which will reflect the sound.

Walls will absorb the sound and block some of it out.

In the actual audio recording there is a little sound from people that was walking through the corridor then you hear slamming noises from the doors closing which are louder noises than what comes from the text being read. The sound in this recording does sound quite loud and sort of echoes, but due to the surroundings and people is blocked out. In comparison to the audio recording that was done in the canteen this one is louder and clearer because of the place it was recorded in, as there was not many things that absorbed the sound, in this place there was more things that reflected the sound, as there was not many people where as in the canteen there was quite a lot.

3. Outside

As this audio recording has been took in an exterior place where as all the others are interior, so in this one there is a lot more open space which will allow the sound to appear louder as it will not as easily get blocked out and absorbed due to all the space and no roofs. However there are walls and cars around where we took the recording which will absorb and block out some sound. There were no people around when we took the recording making it louder.

This recording is overall the clearest and loudest one as there are not as many things in this place as there are in the others that will absorb the sound. There are no other sounds in this one other than the person that is supposed to be talking. As this was done in an

open space it has ended up being the loudest one as there aren’t four walls and a roof around the area to block the sound out more and absorb it instead it can get around further. There for sounding louder.

So out off all the places where we recorded:

We recorded in two interior places and one exterior places. The two interior places was different as one was in a canteen with lots of people around and one was in a corridor with just two people passing by. The exterior had no people there at all which is one reason why this one sounded the loudest but it was not all because of this, it was mainly to do with the fact that it was outside with much more open space and less things to absorb the sound. So overall the recording from outside was the best.
