• 80 hrs. of HazMat Technician• 16 hrs. of Confined Space• 8 hrs. of HazWoper• Required Annual refresher training• Conduct Op’s training for AFD, APD• 12 hrs. WMD• Psychiatric counseling

• Rescue Systems 1• Urban Search & Rescue• High-Angle Rescue• Computer• Air Monitoring• HazMat Incident Command• WMD
Duties
• Hazardous materials emergency response
• Confined Space rescue• Business inspections• Pub Ed’s• EMS & Fire C.E.’s• and the same other calls as everyone
else, but a lot more of ‘em.

• HHW Collection• Tier Two Reporting• Air Monitoring Calibration• Level A Suit Testing• HazMat Occupancy Pre-planning• WMD• Grants
Most Important Duties
• Clean floors, toilets, take out the trash, etc.
• Wash trucks• Hydrants• Pub Ed’s• Get Groceries• Inspections
Specialized Equipment
• Mop• Broom• Toilet swab• Sponge• Bucket
Expensive Stuff
• Level A suits and appurtenances• SCBA - specialized• Air Monitors - LEL, O2, CO, H2S,
Radiation, etc.• Computers• Chemical Tests/Reagents
HazMats
• Fuel Spills• Chemical spills and releases• Decontamination• Carbon Monoxide• Fire Run-off control• Investigate stuff - odors, liquids, smoke• Code violations• Dumping
What Causes HazMats?
• Transportation Accidents• Facilities - storage, manufacture• Illegal dumping• Drug labs• Joe Homeowner - pesticides,
antifreeze, weed killers, fuel, paint, motor oil
What we do
• Detect Hazmat - first-on officer• Identify - with monitors & tests• Protect - clothing, isolate, evacuate• Offensive operations - plug & patch
tools• Decontaminate - people & equipment• Clean-up - spilled product, contractors
