Business ethics and sustainability Ethical decision making Proving sustainability. Benefits of sustainable behavior. Contribution of TATA steel towards society. Assessment of the ill-effects on the environment.

What is meant by Ethical Business Practice?Business ethics means taking the right course. Acting ethically takes into account all the factors of doing business. These include production, business processes, and the companys behavior with its customers and the communities in which it operates. It is about doing the right thing in everything the company does. Tata Steel has five core values which define the ethics of the company: integrity, understanding, excellence, unity and responsibility. These values are evident in everything that it does and drive the ethical behavior of the company. For Tata Steel, taking responsibility for tackling the challenges of sustainability follows naturally from this ethical stance.

How Sustainable practice can help business to compete ? Enhances reputation. Confidence of stakeholders. Customer loyalty. Quality of product. Conserver energy. Recyclic material in the product. Compete with the rivals. Employee motivation Help government organizations like NGOs etc.

Analyze why LCA is more accurate type of analysis than just looking at the carbon footprint of the use phase of a material.

Carbon Footprint"Carbon footprinting is a newer, measurement system of a small selection of parts of a complete LCA.

LCALCA quantifies the environmental burdens associated with a product, process or activity over its entire lifecycle, from production of the raw materials to disposal at end of life. . LCA is not limited to climate change but includes other impacts on the environment. LCA covers all quantifiable environmental impacts associated with the product Water consumption, efficient land use, animal welfare and resource conservation can be at least, and in some circumstances, more important.

Amount of Co2 emitted from the product or the organization in the use phase only. Covers just greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon footprinting does help companies identify "hot-spots where emissions are highest in the use phase, but carbon isnt the only sustainability indicator

More about LCAAn ISO standard (ISO 1401) defines the various stages involved in carrying out an LCA: First, the purpose of the study and the systems to be studied have to be identified. That includes setting the system boundaries for example, will the study cover every part of the supply chain, or only those under the direct control of the company commissioning the study? Then an inventory analysis has to be conducted. All materials and energy used and all emissions and wastes released to the environment are identified and quantified over the whole life cycle of the product ( from raw material extraction and processing, through manufacture, use and end of life). An impact assessment analyses the environmental significance of the inputs and outputs identified in the inventory analysis. Finally, in the interpretation stage, results are analyzed, limitations explained, conclusions made and recommendations provided.
