Grace Castle is the daughter of Chris and Renee Castle. She has two sisters, Eliza and Katie. Mandy Pickering is her sponsor. She has chosen St. Elizabeth as her saint for Confirmation. In addition to her active involvement with St. Augustine Youth, she is a member of 4-H, the Sunshine Society, and runs on both the Track and Cross Country Teams at Rensselaer Central High School. Gracie is excited to be Confirmed as she feels it will bring her closer to God. She plans to continue serving and greeting at Mass. She will never

forget the welcome she feels as being part of God's family, the Church. Please keep her in your prayers as she makes this step in her Christian formation.

Eliza Castle is the daughter of Chris and Renee Castle. She is Grace's twin sister and big sister to Katie. She is also being sponsored by Mandy Pickering. Her Confirmation saint is Saint Cecilia. Like her sister, Eliza is also involved in 4-H and the Sunshine Society. She also has her own interests as a member of the Student Council and the National Junior Honor Society. She plays volleyball and softball. Eliza

looks forward to Confirmation as a way to grow her relationship with God and the Church. She will carry with her the lesson that God is always present and ready to help her. She is looking for ways to be more actively involved in the parish and is open to suggestions. Pray with her as she grows in faith.

Confirmation 2019 Confirmation will be celebrated this year with Bishop Timothy

Doherty presiding at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, Oct 6. We have featured the Confirmandi over the past few weeks leading up to the big day. Please continue to pray for all of the Confirmandi!

Make a Gift That Will Make a Difference Your gifts of cash, stock, real estate and insurance are needed to

make the St. Augustine Catholic Parish Fund grow, giving our Parish a perpetual income. Contact the church office today to

learn more of how a gift today can be transformed into an eternal gift that helps pass on our Catholic heritage.

Want to join the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will begin holding

Apples for Students Education technology and funding changes daily. To keep up with these changes and expenses, our school is participating in our local supermarket’s Apples for the Students Program. The Strack and & VanTil Apples for the Students Program enables our school to earn Apple Computers and iPads, sporting goods, audio visual equipment, science supplies, hundreds of other items to choose from, and they’re all FREE….. To earn these FREE awards we simply have to collect as many Strack & VanTil register receipts as possible from September 1st, 2019 through March 2nd, 2020. Ask your friends and relatives to shop at Strack & VanTil and save every receipt. Send the receipts to St. A school or drop them in the box at the store as often as possible. We will count the value of the register tapes collected and redeem them for great items that benefit our students. Thank you in advance for your participation!

50/50 Membership Fifty/Fifty is an ongoing school fundraiser and we are looking

for new members. The cost for one year is $60 or $30 for six months. Every month the drawing is held on the third Friday.

A Letter from Former Principal W. Bruce Schooler

Greetings! It is with an extremely heavy heart that I now announce my departure from St. Augustine School effective today, Friday, September 27, 2019. The past three plus years here have been amazing, and I absolutely felt at home from day one. Fr. Don Davison and the Parish of St. Augustine have been exceedingly supportive, and I truly felt loved and appreciated every day during my tenure. Our school community, including our wonderful children, amazing parents, and superb staff have been equally amazing. I love all of you with every ounce of my being! During my time here, St. Augustine has realized continuous school improvement, earning a myriad of awards and recognition. I am absolutely proud of all that we accomplished together. It has been nothing short of an honor and a privilege to lead this exemplary school ministry. Thank you all for this once in a life time opportunity. The course of our lives is sometimes dictated by forces out of the locus of our control. With that said, it is now necessary for me to change direction and be more available to my family. God's plan is not always immediately revealed to us, but I do know He intends for me to take these next steps. St. Augustine School will carry on as it has for over a hundred years with its unparalleled service to our children, parish, and community at large. I am blessed to have been a part of it. Thank you ALL again, and God bless! Yours in Christ, W. Bruce Schooler

The Response from St. Augustine School Staff

Dear St. A Family, After processing the events of yesterday through much reflection and prayer, we wanted to reach out to all of you personally to ensure you that each of us will continue to be steadfast and resilient in our dedication to your child’s academic, social, and spiritual growth this school year during this administrative transition! During this transition four pillars will guide us. The first will be love. Love for your children, our school family and one another. As stated in 1 John 4:18, “there is no fear in love”. Through all of the challenges that this transition may present to us, we are committed to not allowing those challenges become bigger than our love for one another, all of you, and your children. The second will be learn. Thanks be to God, each of us is very different and is blessed with unique gifts and talents. These differences will only make us stronger as we learn our new roles to make this transition period as smooth as possible. According to Proverbs 2:6, we know that “the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” Thus, we will use the wisdom and gifts he has granted each of us; together we have proven to be an incredible TEAM! And as any good team, we will be leaning on each other to learn and grow and become an even stronger St. A School! The third will be laughter. There is nothing better for the soul than a good laugh with friends and family! On the ups and downs of this administrative change, we will need laughter to recharge our spirits. The fourth, and most important, will be prayer. There is NOTHING more precious than the gift of prayer. God tells us in Mark 11:24 “...I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Therefore, on the days when we feel lost, we will pray; on the days when we feel upset, we will pray; on the days we feel worried, we will pray. We ask that you join us in prayer and keep us in your prayers as we explore this new path that God is laying before us. Dr. Peg Dispenzieri, the Lafayette Diocese Superintendent, Father Don, the faculty, and the staff hosted a parent meeting on October 1st to answer questions and concerns and outline a plan for this new path for our wonderful school. Finally, thank you all for the support, love, and prayers that have already been extended to us and in advance of the prayers and support that we know you will give as we move forward. Together, as staff, students, parents, and grandparents, we are a strong family, and that strength and God’s love will allow us to persevere and be better for it! God bless, St. Augustine Faculty and Staff
