Tattoos…

Our initial idea…• We wanted to choose an idea

which appeals to a wider audience with varying opinions.

• Tattoo’s are a highly controversial topic as some people find them attractive and personal to their own lives, whereas others can often see them as unappealing. Therefore, with such varying attitudes, we will be able to interview a broad range of people, leaving our audience to form their own individual view.

Target Audience…• Even though we would hope that our

documentary would appeal to a wider audience, we would say that a younger audience would be more likely to watch the programme, (say 15-25.)

• This is because we would like to convey the pro’s and the con’s of getting a tattoo to a viewer who was maybe considering getting one.

• We want to show a wide range of people getting tattoo’s and the reasons behind their decisions, whether it was for fun or for a sentimental reason. We will also interview tattooists, asking them questions about why the industry is appealing and why they think they are a good idea.

Documentaries…• We were inspired by many documentaries whilst

thinking about our own idea.• Jodi Marsh has taken up a challenge and has been

documented, training as a professional tattooist. Throughout her documentary she spends time with professionals, attends art classes and builds a portfolio where she will learn the trade as an apprentice. As her ambition is to open her own studio, she is filmed learning every aspect of the trade.

• Miami Ink is an American reality show that follows the events that took place at a tattoo shop in Miami Beach, Florida. The show premiered in July 2005 and has finished broadcasting its fourth season. There are several spin-offs, including the shows LA Ink and London Ink.

• This programme is a good insight into life as a tattooist and the reasons behind peoples choices to get one done.

Documentary Style…• Our documentary will be poetic which

means it will constructed as a topic of human interest rather than current affairs. However, it will also be expository as an analysis of the certain topic.

• Our documentary will be filmed for the purpose of: Revealing, Recording, Analysing and Expressing Opinions of the truth behind tattoos.

Locations…• We are hoping to film the majority of our

documentary in Camden as many people in the area have tattoos or go there to get them done.

• It’s a colourful and exciting place where we can get lots of distinctive and unusual shots.

• As well as filming, we will be doing interviews with different people, filming perhaps at their houses or in specific places relating to our documentary such as a tattooist’s parlour or Camden itself.

• We are also hoping to use a small amount of archive footage perhaps as an introduction to the opening of our documentary.

Section…• We intend for our snippet to be

the opening of a four part documentary. Therefore, we will be able to introduce the topic and explain a bit about the programme as a whole.

• We are thinking of having voice over's explaining what will happen in the second part, at the end of our filming.

• We could imagine our documentary being the sort which is aired on a channel such as itv2 as they tend to have programmes suited to our target audience about human interest, such as Fearne Meets…

Why we chose Tattoos…• This is a subject which we are all interested in

and feel is not publicised is such a positive way.

• We feel at an advantage as we know people who have tattoos for different reasons and would feel happy to talk about their decisions whether positive or negative.

• We knew we wanted to base our topic on appearance and how people view one another. We initially started off discussing ideas concerning size zero and the medias input, however, felt as tattoos are a controversial issue it would be interesting to do a documentary surrounding the topic.
