Octubre es el mes de la conso-lidación del otoño, cuando por primera vez vemos muy de lejos los días de las vacaciones y la vista se empieza a enfocar al horizonte buscando las fechas navideñas. Pero para eso aún quedan bastantes semanas y Taxi Magazine vuelve a sorprender con su Especial Escena. Un repaso exhaustivo a la cartelera madrileña.

Los teatros de la capital se renuevan con un abanico de registros que oscilarán entre las tragedias más profundas hasta las notas de humor más ingeniosas que podremos encon-trar en algunos monólogos. Sin olvidarnos nunca de los más pequeños de la familia y de los musicales de gran formato. Un abanico de propuestas para todos los gustos que invitan a ocupar asientos en los palcos de butacas.

En la portada de este número, el Museo Arqueológico de Alicante cierra sus puertas a la exposición Ermitage, Tesoros de la Arqueología Rusa. Una última oportunidad para no perderse una selección de piezas increíbles que, por primera vez, van más allá de las fronteras rusas.

Lejos de los límites de la Comunidad de Ma-drid, Lorca continua reclamando la atención de visitantes para continuar adelante tras el mal momento sufrido el pasado mes de mayo.

October is the month when the fall gets truly underway. For the first time those vacation days seem a long way back, and we turn our gazes toward the ho-rizon, looking forward to the Christmas holidays. But those are still many weeks away, and Taxi Magazine surprises readers once again with its On Stage Special. A comprehensive look at Madrid’s theater and shows.

The capital’s stages are renewed with a whole range of different kinds of shows, from the most profound tragedies to the most ingenious humor found in a series of monologues. Not to mention options for children, along with lavish musical pro-ductions. An entertainment selection for all tastes enticing audiences to take some balcony seats.

On the cover of this issue the Alicante Archeological Museum draws its exhibi-tion Hermitage: Russian Archeological Treasures to a close. This is your last chance not to miss out on a series of incredible pieces on display for the first time outside Russia.

Meanwhile, far from the borders of the Community of Madrid, Lorca continues to attract visitors’ attention as it recovers from the calamity it suffered last May.

XXXI CARTAGENA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2011 Desde / From 5 nov.

Wanda Jackson inaugura la treinta y una edición del Cartagena Jazz Festival 2011, donde presenta su nuevo trabajo The party Ain’t Over. Un año más se consolida el certamen con un cartel inmejorable y variado en el que participan más de quince formaciones. Pasarán por los escenarios Madeleyne Peyroux, Fleet Foxes, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Anoushka Sankar, además de Sly Jonson, Betty Lavette, Herman Dune, Anoushka Shankar, entre otros. Junto al Nuevo Teatro Circo, como novedad en esta edición, se incorpora una nueva instalación, el Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos El Batel que se inaugura en el mes de octubre. Durante dos semanas puede disfrutarse del mejor jazz tradicional y vanguardista del mundo, dado que está considerado uno de los mejores certámenes junto al Festival de Jazz de San Sebastián y Festival de Jazz de Vitoria. El broche final lo pone la banda estadounidense de Indie folk, Fleet Foxes. Wanda Jackson kicks off the 2011 Cartagena Jazz Festival, now in its 31st year, where she will present her new album The party Ain’t Over. For yet another year the event builds on its reputation, with a stellar and varied lineup featuring over 15 bands. The stages will welcome the likes of Madeleyne Peyroux, Fleet Foxes, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Anoushka Sankar, in addition to Sly Jonson, Betty Lavette, Herman Dune, and Anoushka Shankar, among others. Along with the new Theater-Circus, a new development at this edition will be the El Batel Auditorium and Convention Center, a facility to be inaugurated in the month of October. For two weeks one can enjoy the world’s best in both traditional and cutting-edge jazz, as this is considered one of the very finest events of its kind, along with the San Sebastian and Vitoria jazz festivals. The event will be wound up by the American Indie folk band Fleet Foxes.

25 AÑOS MENOS UN DÍA (THE TEA IS READY)Desde / From 13 nov.

Veinticinco años menos un día es el tiempo que estuvo en cartel, supuestamente, la obra The tea is ready, del supuesto hito del teatro inglés P.D. Green. Asistimos durante la función a la representación de esa obra, una comedia típicamente inglesa sobre un extravagante triángulo amoroso. Como cuenta Ana Fernández, la protagonista, se trata casi de un triple salto mortal con pirueta: “yo interpreto a Eva en The tea is ready, y hago también de la actriz que interpreta a Eva, una diva del teatro inglés, Mrs. Blake, y además soy Ana Fernández también en escena, porque se sale y se entra de las acciones continuamente. Si The tea is ready es una obra que habla del matrimonio y del hastio que a veces anida en él, Veinticinco años... habla de los actores, del mundo del teatro, de los egos y sus debilidades, de cómo se puede romper tu propia identidad en un segundo.” A todo este lío los eruditos lo llaman metateatro, teatro dentro del teatro. Ana Fernández destaca, por encima de todo eso, la valentía de su autor, Antonio Álamo, y la del propio teatro Español por dar vida a un proyecto tan lleno de complejidades como de satisfacciones. Twenty Five Years Minus One Day is the time which the imaginary work The Tea is Ready was on stage, by the fictional English playwright P.D. Green. The show depicts the staging of the work, a typically English comedy about an outrageous love triangle. As prota-gonist Ana Fernández explains, the situation is a truly complex jumble requiring some real juggling: “I play Eva in The Tea is Ready, and also play the actress who plays Eva, a diva in English theater, Mrs. Blake, in addition to being Ana Fernández on stage, because she is continuously coming and going from the action.” If The Tea is Ready is a work which deals which marriage and the tedium which it sometimes spawns, 25 Years … is about actors, the world of thea-ter, egos and their weaknesses, and how one can have his own identity shattered in a second. The experts call this whole mess metatheater, theater within theater. Ana Fernandez stresses, above all this, the courage of its author, Antonio Álamo, and the Spanish Theater itself for backing a work so fraught with complexities yet so gratifying.

Protagonista del espectáculo: Godoy, humorista genial y brillante, uruguayo para más señas. Au-tores: el propio Godoy y Berto Romero. Director: Andreu Buenafuente, que ha dejado la pequeña pantalla y se ha pasado al teatro momentánea-mente. Tres mentes cachondas para una charla sobre el sexo, la mujer, el hombre, la muerte, Dios, la estupidez, la felicidad y la vida misma, esa gran mentira. “Mi mamá me dijo un día –dice Godoy-: mira hijo, las mujeres mentiríamos me-nos si los hombres no hicieran tantas preguntas. Amigos, hay que mentir con sinceridad para que crean que es verdad, alguna vez amigos digan la verdad, para que les crean cuando mientan. Que ustedes mientan bien.” Godoy comenzó su acti-vidad artística en España en 1968. Se le recuer-da en espectáculos llenos de humor surrealista como Con el culo al aire o Esperando a Godoy. Ahora, aliado con la pareja Buenafuente-Berto, espera alcanzar la cumbre de la risa. The star of the show: Godoy, a great, brilliant comedian - and a Uruguayan, to be exact. Authors: Go-doy himself and Berto Romero. Director: Andreu Buenafuente, who has left the world of television, going over to theater momentarily. Three frisky minds for a chat about sex, women, man, death, God, stupidity, happiness and life itself, that great lie. “My mother told me one day…” says Godoy. “…look son, we women would lie less if men didn’t ask so many questions. Friends, one must lie sincerely so that they believe it is true, and sometimes you have to tell the truth, so that they believe you when you lie. Lie well.” Godoy began his artistic activity in Spain in 1968. He is remembered for his shows full of surreal humor, such as Con el culo al aire (Hung Out to Dry) and Esperando a Godoy (Waiting for Godoy). Now, teamed up with the Buenafuente-Berto team, he hopes to score a comedy smash hit.

Como dicen Ángel Suárez y José María Cámara, pro-ductores de este montaje, “en la categoría de musica-les con música pre-existente, muy pocos autores en nuestro idioma ofrecen en su obra el calado, la dimen-sión y la vigencia de la obra de Joaquín Sabina.” Si ya consiguieron marcar un antes y un después con Hoy no me puedo levantar, ahora lo vuelven a hacer con un musical que probablemente arrastre tantas masas al teatro Rialto como aquel. Con guión y dirección de David Serrano, la obra tiene como personaje principal a El Tuli, que deja tres años de cárcel a sus espaldas pero carga con el peso de una obsesión: vengarse de Fernando Villegas, el hombre que le metió allí y que acabó con la vida de su amigo Samuel. Sobre esta historia se ha montado un thriller musical, con amor, comedia, deseo… y canciones de Sabina. El elenco lo encabezan Juan Pablo di Pace, Álex Barahona y Guadalupe Lancho y los planes de la productora pasan por llevar el musical a Buenos Aires y a México, antes de convertirlo en una película. As the producers of this show, Ángel Suárez and José María Cámara, say: “in the category of musicals featuring pre-existing music, very few songwriters’ work in our language boasts the significance, scope and relevance of that of Joaquin Sa-bina.” Having created a landmark work with Hoy no me puedo levantar, now they’ve done it again, with a mu-sical that will probably pack audiences in to the Rialto Theater just like that earlier show. Scripted and directed by David Serrano, the work’s main character is El Tuli, who gets out of jail after three years, but bears the bur-den of an obsession: taking revenge on Fernando Ville-gas, the man who put him there and took the life of his friend Samuel. A musical thriller has been woven based around this story, featuring love, comedy, desire… and songs by Sabina. The cast is headed up by Juan Pablo di Pace, Álex Barahona and Guadalupe Lancho, and the producer’s plans call for taking the musical on the road to Buenos Aires and Mexico before turning it into a movie.

La sala Réplika, además de programar teatro de cali-dad, es un incansable vivero que cada año siembra en el corazón de los jóvenes la semilla del teatro para que en un futuro germine y puedan convertirse en grandes actores/actrices. Allí ya había una compañía estable con numerosos montajes a sus espaldas, pero ahora han ido más allá y han montado otra más, la Compa-ñía Joven de Réplika Teatro, que aglutina a diferentes artistas jóvenes pertenecientes o vinculados a la sala. Este nuevo proyecto surge para saciar las inquietudes artísticas de las generaciones más jóvenes de la escue-la. Se estrenan con Combate de negro y perros, obra de Bernard-Marie Koltès, uno de los dramaturgos más importantes del teatro francés contemporáneo, conocido por ser autor de un teatro de lugares olvidados y cru-das relaciones humanas. La obra se sitúa en un país de África Occidental, cuando a una multinacional extranjera que construye obras públicas en ese país llega un hom-bre reclamando el cuerpo de su hermano muerto en la obra, y no se moverá hasta tenerlo de vuelta.The Réplika Theater, in addition to featuring quality shows, is a per-petual hotbed of budding talent, sowing dramatic seeds in youth who will one day blossom into great actors and actresses. The theater already had a stable company with a long list of productions to its credit, but now they’ve taken one step further and established another, the Ré-plika Theater Youth Company, which brings together a number of young artists belonging or linked to the venue. This new project arose to satisfy the artistic yearnings of the school’s youngest participants. Premiering is Black Battles with Dogs, a work by Bernard-Marie Koltès, one of the most important figures in contemporary French theater, known as an author of works featuring forgotten places and crude human relationships. The work is set in a country in Western Africa where a man shows up at a foreign multinational company engaged in public works, demanding the body of his brother who died on the job site, and refuses to go away until he gets what he’s come for.

Con el mes de septiembre, da comienzo la nueva tem-porada escénica que viene repleta de estrenos y con ga-nas de embaucar una vez más al público. Los sentidos se despiertan con Ojos verdes, una propuesta musical que apela a la conciencia y a la emoción. Invita al espec-tador a realizar un viaje por la crónica de España par-tiendo de la biografía de Miguel de Molina, autor de can-ciones de recuerdo como La bien pagá, Ojos verdes, o El día que nací yo; letras que luego otros se atribuyeron dejando en el olvido a su verdadero compositor. El otoño comienza en los escenarios de la mano de la comedia y los juegos de enredos de Tartufo. El cándido Orgón, un burgués bien avenido, cae en la trampa de falsa devo-ción de Tartufo y lo aloja en su casa. A pesar de tener a toda su familia en contra, este hombre demasiado solo y con ansias de creer, hace caso omiso a los consejos. Tal es su ceguera que llega a negar lo innegable. Sólo cuando ve por sus propios ojos el engaño que ha sufrido, descubre que toda su vida se encuentra en manos de este profesional de la estafa.

September ushers in a new theater season packed with premieres and an eagerness to delight audiences once again. Ojos verdes (Green Eyes) is a musical work that awakens the senses while appealing to audiences’ minds and emotions. The show invites one on a jour-ney through Spanish history through the life of Miguel de Molina, the author of nostalgic songs like La bien pagá, Ojos verdes and El día que nací yo, featuring lyrics which others claimed to have written, their true author having gone overlooked. The fall stage season kicks off with comedy and the misunderstanding-based Tartuffe. The gullible Orgón, a well-to-do member of the bourgeoisie, falls for Tartuffe’s false piety, inviting him into his home. Against his entire family’s objec-tions, the too-lonely man, yearning to believe, disre-gards their entreaties. Such is his blindness that he ends up denying the obvious. Only when he sees with his own two eyes how he has been hoodwinked does he discover that his whole life is in the hands of this professional charlatan.

Triángulos amorosos, enredos y mucho más en la nueva obra del dramaturgo y escritor Antonio Álamo. Veinticin-co años menos un día es una comedia sobre la comedia en la que todo es lo que parece, pero al final nada resulta ser como se piensa. Tres historias claramente localizadas que se entrelazan en un mismo escenario como parte de una compleja función. Encabezada por la actriz Ana Fer-nández, la primera obra comienza con un extravagante adulterio. Eva, en vez de ocultar su engaño, como sería lo previsible, trata de hacerle ver a John, su marido, que le está siendo infiel con Michael, pero John prefiere mirar para otro lado y hacer como si todo fuera normal. Le si-gue la representación ficticia de una obra teatral The tea is ready, que tras casi veinticinco años de permanencia en la cartelera londinense, está a punto de quedarse obsole-ta. La tercera y última desarrolla la historia del nieto de P. D. Green que procura recuperar la figura olvidada de su abuelo y su importancia en el teatro inglés, y por tanto en el teatro universal. Esta producción del Teatro Español y de la Diputación de Sevilla es una parodia sobre el matrimonio, pero también del mundo del teatro y de los actores.

Love triangles, mix-ups and much more in a new work by playwright and writer Antonio Álamo. 25 Years Mi-nus One Day is a comedy about comedy in which everything is what it seems, but in the end nothing turns out to be what people thought. Three clearly local stories interweave on one stage as part of a complex show.Headed up by actress Ana Fernández, the first work begins with an outrageous act of adultery. Eva, instead of concealing her infidelity, as one would expect, tries to make her husband John see that she is cheating on him with Michael, but John prefers to look the other way and act as if everything were normal. Next is the staging of the made-up play, The Tea is Ready, which after nearly 25 years on the London stage is on the verge of becoming outmoded. The third and last one tells the story of the grandson of P.D. Green, who managed to reclaim his grandfather’s forgotten legacy and his importance to both English and interna-tional theater. This production by the Spanish Theater and the Provincial Government of Seville is a parody of marriage, but also of the world of theater and actors.

Los seguidores de Joaquín Sabina están de suerte. El próximo mes de octubre, su ritmo se sube a los escena-rios del Teatro Rialto Movistar para estrenar el musical Más de cien mentiras. Cuenta con un elenco de más de veinticinco actores, entre ellos, Álex Barahona, Juan Pablo Di Pace, Guadalupe Lancho y Víctor Massán. Un formato basado en la obra del cantautor, que cuen-ta la historia de El Tuli, un ex presidiario que trabaja-ba junto a tres amigos para un capo. Cuando deci-den montárselo por su cuenta, el mafioso les tiende una trampa. En el tiroteo muere Samuel, otro huye y él es encarcelado durante tres años. Tras salir de la cárcel, reaparece con un solo objetivo, el ajuste de cuentas. Este musical producido por el Grupo Drive es dirigido por el joven David Serrano, que ya demostró su talento en El otro lado de la cama o en Hoy no me puedo levantar.

Joaquín Sabina fans are in luck. Next October his tunes will be heard on the stage of the Rialto Movistar Theater, where the musical Over 100 Lies will make its premiere. The cast of over 25 actors includes Álex Barahona, Juan Pablo Di Pace, Guadalupe Lancho and Víctor Massán. The show is based on the work of the singer-songwriter, and tells the story of El Tuli, an ex con who, along with three friends, used to wor-ked for a capo. When they decide to go their own way, the mafioso sets a trap for them. In the gunfight Samuel dies, another flees, and he is locked up for three years. After getting out of jail, he surfaces with just one mission: payback. This musical, produced by Grupo Drive , is directed by young David Serrano, who already demonstrated his talent in El otro lado de la cama (The Other Side of the Bed) and Hoy no me puedo levantar (Today I Can’t Get Up).

La compañía catalana Els Joglars sube al escenario una nueva versión de El Nacional, mítico musical estre-nado en 1993. Una obra crítica con la crisis económica que sufre el país actualmente y que, por entonces, tam-bién estaba presente. Una obra renovada, mucho más musical y con variaciones, que cuenta en esta ocasión con el barítono Enrique Sánchez Ramos, además de la soprano Begoña Alberdi que ya formaba parte del an-terior elenco. Cuando el teatro parece casi desapareci-do, Don José, anciano acomodador del antiguo Teatro Nacional de Ópera, hoy cerrado por la crisis, asume la ardua tarea de resucitar y renovar el arte lírico entre los restos del monumental coliseo. Con el fin de impul-sar este renacimiento, forma a un grupo de indigentes para representar el Rigoletto, personaje que considera el símbolo del arte escénico. En definitiva, a través del humor y la sátira, El Nacional muestra la realidad cir-cundante reflejada en un viejo teatro de ópera.

The Catalonian company Els Joglars takes the new sta-ge in a new version of El Nacional, the legendary musi-cal which premiered in 1993. The work is critical with the economic crisis the country is currently suffering, and which was relevant even back then. A revamped, much more musical work and with variations, this time around featuring baritone Enrique Sánchez Ramos along with soprano Begoña Alberdi, who already formed part of the previous cast. Just when theater seems almost to have disappeared, old Don José appears, a former usher at the old National Opera House, now closed due to the crisis, to undertake the arduous task of bringing back and res-toring the lyrical art amidst the ruins of the monumental coliseum. In order to kindle this renaissance, he organi-zes a group of homeless people to perform Rigoletto – the character he considers the quintessential operatic figure. Through humor and satire, El Nacional portrays the reality surrounding us, reflected in an old opera house.

La Fiesta de Carthagineses y Romanos sumerge a la ciudad en la antigüedad durante diez días retrocediendo en el tiempo para revivir las hazañas de los héroes de Cartago y Roma. Una forma original de conmemorar la Segunda Guerra Púnica en una me-trópoli milenaria. Tanto residentes como foráneos están invitados a convertirse por unos días en soldados de uno u otro bando, y recrear detalladamente las batallas que sucedieron hace dos mil doscientos años en los enclaves donde alguna vez se produ-jo una batalla. Cartagena luce con orgullo momentos mágicos de su historia, una de las celebraciones representativas de la antigüedad de mayor magnitud y considerada de Interés Turís-tico Nacional. Al caer la noche, todos los visitantes y también participantes acuden al campamento para degustar la comida tradicional de la comarca. De esta forma el fuerte representado, se transforma en una gran ciudadela donde el arte y la simbo-logía de Cartago, Roma, Grecia, Iberia, Celtíber y Fenicia rigen todas las construcciones. Habitualmente, la estancia en las ca-setas se ameniza con actos representativos que prolongan estas actividades hasta altas horas de la madrugada. Una sucesión vertiginosa de acontecimientos trasladan al espectador al siglo II a. C. Grandiosos desfiles llenan las calles con vestuarios de gala y armamentos idénticos a la realidad, un despliegue de lujo e imaginación para el deleite de los espectadores.

The Festival of Romans and Carthaginians immerses the city in antiquity for ten days, travelling back in time to relive the feats of the heroes of Rome and Carthage. An original way of commemorating the Second Punic War in a city brimming with centuries of history. Both locals and visitors are invited to become soldiers on one side or the other for a day, as detailed reenactments are organized of battles fought 2,200 years ago, right on the sites whe-re they were actually waged. Cartagena proudly shows off magical moments of its his-tory in one of the world’s largest-scale celebrations of antiquity, an event considered of National Touristic In-terest. At nightfall all the visitors and participants flock to the camp to enjoy traditional regional fare. In this way the fort is transformed into a great citadel where the art and symbols of Carthage, Rome, Greece, Iberia, Cel-tiberia and Phoenicia abound. Traditionally the festivi-ties here feature typical celebrations that linger on until the wee hours. A whirlwind of events sweeps spectators away to the second century BC. Grand processions fill the streets with festive attire and historically realistic armaments, an imaginative and dazzling display which delights audiences.

Es un día de falsa primavera. De los que hacen aterrador que por poco nos falle. El viento sopla desde la sierra y contrae los rostros y barre las hojas secas del bulevar del Paseo del Prado, silencioso y solitario como un oasis en medio del bullicio de la ciudad. Hay un hombre ennegrecido sentado en un banco de piedra. Escondido entre el boj recortado de laberinto.

Tiznado como si lo hubieran sombreado de lápiz. De la cabeza a los pies. La ropa y la piel. Se ha quitado los zapatos y hasta sus pies ha llegado el grafito. La tibia derecha sobre el fémur izquierdo. Se hurga entre los dedos y algo le duele, algo que está más allá de su figura que es más bien un bosquejo. Sobre él, por detrás de un ciprés podado con escuadra y cartabón, hay otra figura limpia, blanca e inmóvil. Tienen más suerte las estatuas que los mendigos, que los hombres.

El boj lo cubre, lo serpentea, lo divide, lo llena todo. Hasta el aire. Huele a Madrid antiguo, de infancia y allí, sobre su espacio de arena, hay dos japoneses adolescentes. Ella tiene los ojos pintados y él el flequillo de punta. Se columpian henchidos de lejanía y de primavera a la que parecen invocar entre risas que son risas calla-das, mudas, respetuosas.

Son dos versos sueltos del museo, que se yergue entre los plátanos como un monstruo gigante al que hicieran burla. La ciudad hoy es singular. Gris y ventosa. Y se llama Metrópolis, lo dice allí, a lo lejos, un ángel posado sobre su cúpula dorada.
