PowerNet General DescriptionThe Cutler-Hammer PowerNet system from Eaton’s electrical business is designed to manage the power distri-bution system. This integrated power management system is the ideal tool to help manage energy costs, troubleshoot power quality problems, and ensure the reliability and integrity of the electrical distribution system. It is well suited for application in a manufacturing facility, a process-oriented plant, a commercial office building, a utility generating plant and a multi-building campus.

The PowerNet system consists of PowerNet software networked with Cutler-Hammer products of unparalleled breadth, accuracy and reliability: meters, relays, trip units, motor protectors, starters and transfer switch controllers I/O devices, thus forming the most com-prehensive power management system solution in the industry. In addition, the extensive library of third-party interfaces makes PowerNet uniquely qualified to be the single solution for an existing or new application.

Energy ManagementThe PowerNet system is the keystone of a successful energy management pro-gram. It can provide data to verify the energy bill for the site, allocate the cost to individual users, identify potential energy saving opportunities through submetering and load profiling, and provide the information necessary to construct and implement an energy strategy in the deregulated environ-ment. PowerNet data can be delivered to desktop PCs throughout the facility, enabling energy users to be active par-ticipants in managing energy costs. With PowerNet, facilities have lowered energy costs by reducing consumption, identifying and modifying usage pat-terns, negotiating more attractive utility rate structures, and allocating costs to departments or processes.

Power QualityThe PowerNet system helps to ensure optimal electrical power quality, an increasingly important consideration with the continued growth of nonlin-ear loads and increasingly sensitive production and office equipment. Poor power quality can result in expensive downtime and costly equipment fail-ures. The PowerNet system provides real-time data and alarms as well as historical profiles to isolate the source, magnitude, time and direction of power quality problems, including voltage disturbances, harmonics and power factor.

Reliability and UptimeThe PowerNet system provides crucial electrical distribution system informa-tion to ensure power system uptime. It provides alarms warning of protective trips, potential equipment maintenance requirements, detailed trip diagnostic data, and other troubleshooting data essential to reliable operation. Use of this data can eliminate unnecessary trips and isolate a fault to ensure minimum downtime, thus minimizing lost revenue and profits. The remote configuration and data-gathering fea-ture of PowerNet reduces labor costs, recording errors and potential misco-ordination.

Information and Systems IntegrationA PowerNet system ensures that the right information is available to any-one on- or off-site to make an informed decision. It combines the above mentioned energy manage-ment, power quality and system uptime information with the software tools to turn that data into information that can help you manage your busi-ness more effectively. The information can be made available at the plant site, at headquarters or at a key consultant or service provider — anywhere it is needed and the expertise to use it is available. The system “brings the problem to the expert, instead of requiring the expert to go to the prob-lem” — significantly improving produc-tivity. All this using standard, open, Windows�-based software, utilizing open Ethernet TCP/IP architecture, substantially reducing the cost of implementing the PowerNet system.

ArchitectureFlexibility is a key feature of the PowerNet open design network. Multi-ple users and vendors may use the same PowerNet network, eliminating the need for a proprietary network dedicated to a single vendor.

In addition, power management data can be shared across the facility or across the world via the World Wide Web. The high-speed Ethernet archi-tecture of PowerNet is the same archi-tecture that moves gigabits of data to millions of Internet and e-mail users.

IMPACC/PowerNet CompatibilityPowerNet is backward compatible with existing IMPACC or PowerNet systems on a dedicated network or twisted pair network.

PowerNet Software

Supplementing the hardware and software, Eaton - Electrical Services & Systems can provide local startup and integration services to customize the PowerNet system to your specific business needs. Basic field startup, integration of PowerNet into other plant systems, and remote monitoring of the plant with industry experts in energy and power quality are all services pro-vided by our local field representatives. These services will ensure that you get maximum return on all of your system investments.

Note: PowerNet systems do not consist of exclusively Cutler-Hammer products. Hun-dreds of drivers exist to communicate with many vendor’s meters, protective relays and PLCs.

Flexible Network ArchitectureA PowerNet network can be built in a variety of configurations. Systems can be built using existing Ethernet networks as the backbone, as well as on a dedi-cated twisted shielded pair running throughout a facility. Telephone, radio and fiber modems can be used to cre-ate networks where it is cost prohibi-tive to run dedicated cables. The most flexible, highest performance network architecture includes a dedicated twisted shielded pair network within the switchboard or equipment room connecting into a high speed Ethernet backbone. For a layout of a typical facility network, refer to the Electrical Consulting Application Guide.

Ethernet BackboneTCP/IP Ethernet networks have become the worldwide standard for moving information. Industry has recognized Ethernet as a high speed, flexible, low-cost network that is not vendor dependent. The PowerNet net-work utilizes a standard TCP/IP Ethernet as the high speed backbone for carry-ing information to clients across the plant or across the world. The products designed for interfacing directly to a TCP/IP Ethernet network are the Ethernet PONI and WEBPONI designed for a single device, and a NetLink or EMINT designed to connect multiple devices to an Ethernet backbone.

Dedicated Twisted Shielded PairCustomers who desire to run a dedi-cated network for the power monitor-ing network have a choice between a dedicated Ethernet network or running a twisted shielded pair. A network of 1000 devices running up to 10,000 feet can be networked through one twisted shielded pair of wire.

Existing Network MediaWhen creating a network in an existing facility, it may not be economical to run a dedicated twisted shielded pair and Ethernet may not be available. In this case, line drivers are used to route communications across existing net-works other than Ethernet. Line drivers allow the use of telephone lines, fiber and radio transmitters for wireless communications.

Product Description(Continued)PowerNet Software SuiteConnectivity — Facility Monitoring Power Quality Energy ManagementThe Cutler-Hammer PowerNet software suite is a family of software applica-tions, client/server configuration, that help provide a window into an electrical distribution system. Monitoring and controlling capabilities are included in a single CD installation on any Windows NT, 98, 2000 or XP and above operating systems.

Connectivity BundleThe Connectivity collection of software functionality opens the doors to an electrical distribution system by providing the foundation for commu-nications with metering, relaying, mul-tifunctional trip units, and input/output devices. The Connectivity Bundle supports up to 1000 devices, enabling communications on a TCP/IP network, providing the PowerNet client applica-tions with real-time data, device event information, device waveforms, histor-ical data and many other features. Product History

IMPACCThe Integrated Monitoring Protection and Control Communications (IMPACC) product line emerged in 1987 with the introduction of the first microprocessor-based multifunctional meter, the IQ Data Plus. The IQ Data Plus set the standard for a new class of intelligent meters which offered modular com-munication capability. The first modular communication card, the Product Operated Network Interface (PONI), targeted the noisy environment associated with electrical distribution equipment. The introduction of the PONI card provided the ability to daisy chain a thousand devices back to a computer and view and/or trend all points.

In 1988, Westinghouse offered IMPACC Series III software, the first Microsoft� Windows compatible electrical distri-bution monitoring package. Since this time, the electronic communication and computer industry has evolved and grown with many improvements and developments in the microprocessor applications and speed. Many new communicating hardware devices have been added to the product line and can be found in Motor Control Centers (MCCs), low and medium voltage switchgear assemblies, switchboards and transfer switches. All this equipment can be connected to one main computer via your typical twisted-shielded-pair copper conductors or the latest and greatest in Ethernet connectivity options that include 10Base-T or Fiber.

The Cutler-Hammer offering after the 1995 time frame included three new software programs which worked in conjunction with IMPACC Series III . These applications enabled analysis of harmonics, online coordination of electrical equipment and electronic billing based on actual electrical usage and utility rate structures.

In 1999, the Cutler-Hammer offering took a turn from the single-station stand-alone computer application to a backbone that has been gaining popu-larity in leaps and bounds due to the proliferation of the Internet. The Pow-erNet software suite was introduced as a networked solution suite that utilizes the Ethernet Local Area Network tech-nology. The single-station solution and days of bringing the engineer to the data were drastically changed with the concept of sharing data over Ethernet installations bringing the data to the specialist. The software application solutions available since this time are

portable and flexible such that the energy analyst need only install those client applications that directly apply to the daily functions of the energy analyst. Waveform, Trip Curve, Energy Billing, Event Viewer, Trending, Moni-toring and Modbus Server software applications are a few of the client applications that can be installed on any computer on the Local and Wide Area Network accessing all installed metering, relaying and control devices on the network.

The PowerNet software makes it possible to communicate with each and every IQ and PowerNet product that has been placed in service since 1987. Modbus, Ethernet, RS-232 and RS-485 offer customers many standard, non-proprietary ways to interface with distributed control systems, building management systems and program-mable logic controllers. PowerNet software solutions are your key to the power of information.

General InformationPowerNet communication solutions can be provided in new installations, retrofit situations, or as updates to existing IMPACC Series III system solution installations.

Existing Assemblies without IQ DevicesIQ communicating devices can be easily retrofitted to existing electrical assembly equipment. There are many locations throughout an electrical dis-tribution system where new metering, relaying, trip unit, and/or digital input/output devices can be located to per-form key tasks targeted at Power Quality, Energy Management, and/or Reliability and Uptime. Refer to the IQ Products, Tab 10 of this catalog, for simple easy-to-install methods of adding IQ devices to existing equipment.

Existing Assemblies with IQ DevicesMany Cutler-Hammer/Westinghouse electrical assemblies manufactured since 1989 were furnished with IQ devices as standard for metering and instrumentation. These assemblies are already communications capable. Some of the installed meters or trip units may or may not require the addi-tion of PONI communication modules which enable the data to be transmitted to a master computer over a twisted shielded pair of conductors. The connectivity to the locations within a facility that have clusters of these com-municating devices by use of the PowerNet system solution, can take various forms. The total solution in some instances could take the form of a combination of twisted shielded pair conductors and existing Ethernet for cost-effective economical remote com-munications never before possible with the IMPACC Series III software suite.

Existing Other Manufacturers’ EquipmentRetrofit kits of the Digitrip RMS micro-processor-based trip units are available for other manufacturers’ low voltage power circuit breakers, as well as Cutler-Hammer/Westinghouse DB, DS and SPB breakers. The Digitrip RMS trip units provide true rms current sensing, circuit protection, testing and energy monitoring functions for electrical circuits, as well as remote communica-tions with the PowerNet system. Refer to the Low Voltage Switchgear Tab 17 of CA08101001E for more information on retrofitting power circuit breakers in electrical assemblies.

IQ metering devices can also replace many electromechanical, thermal, or analog devices on Cutler-Hammer/Westinghouse and other manufacturers’ equipment to provide a significant improvement to the quality and quantity of information available. For example, an IQ 200 can replace an ammeter, voltmeter, ammeter and voltmeter switch, wattmeter, varmeter, power factor meter, frequency meter, and watthour meter with one compact solid-state unit. Refer to the IQ products Tab 10 of this catalog for simple, easy to install methods of adding IQ devices to existing equipment.

General Information (Continued)Existing Communication System Updating InformationPowerNet communication solutions can be provided in new installations or provided as updates to existing IMPACC Series III systems. IMPACC Series III system installations have been noted to be everywhere from simple single workstation solutions to complex facility-wide and multi-facility- wide integrated system installations. There are six areas of exploration that should be focused on when planning the update of an existing Series III system to the latest PowerNet solution.

These include:

1. System architecture/functionality considerations.

2. Inventory communication hardware used.

3. Inventory existing Series III software.

4. Master PC requirements.5. Identifying graphics interface

software used.6. Inventory connectivity

solutions employed.

Please see the following sections for details on each of the above.

System Architecture/Functionality ConsiderationsIMPACC Series III software was designed to provide full functionality and run on a single station computer. Networked system solutions included the imple-mentation of HMI applications such as Wonderware� and utilization of Net-work implementation of the Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) communication protocol over Microsoft networks.

A good understanding of the system architecture of Series III installations is important to ensure the update meets the existing functionality, as well as ensuring all equipment is located and

From a master control PC, either on-site or off-site, the plant operator, facilities engineer and/or maintenance engineer could monitor and/or control the entire power distribution system. Information could also be made available to other PCs at different locations within a facility.

Shielded twisted pair communications wire in an IMPACC system could extend 7,500 feet without the use of repeaters. Phone lines and modems may have been used to extend an IMPACC system to monitor and control off-site locations that may be hundreds or thousands of miles from the master control unit.

Some functionality changes that have been realized with the introduction of PowerNet as a direct replacement to the Series III software include the following and must be considered in this update process.

■ Series III data logging final destination was in the form of Comma Separated Variable (CSV) files. PowerNet utilizes Microsoft Access� database files.

■ Series III software was a single station only solution. PowerNet intro-duced the ability to port monitoring, trending, waveforms, billing and other event type information over an existing Ethernet LAN, bringing the information to the expert and not the expert to the information.

■ Series III software could only talk to devices over an INCOM� twisted shielded pair network connected to hardware installed in the ISA slot of the PC, or connected to the RS-232 port of the computer. PowerNet can communicate with INCOM devices connected the same as Series III, but

also connected directly to Ethernet or to multiple INCOM devices connected to Ethernet via networking hardware.

■ Series III integration to HMI software such as Wonderware was imple-mented via DDE tags only. PowerNet enhanced the DDE communications, changing tag information, as well as adding ActiveX resources, enabling considerable reduction of custom screen creation for device faceplate access. PowerNet also introduced, OLE for Process Control (OPC) communication capabilities.

With IMPACC compatible devices, the customer had the ability to monitor, control and obtain information at the individual equipment or equipment lineup.

General Information (Continued)Inventory Communication Hardware Used The INCOM network consists of a twisted shielded pair of conductors that interface to one of the following hardware devices:

■ Master INCOM Network Translator II (MINT II) attached to the COM port of computer.

■ Computer Operated Network Inter-face (CONI) installed in ISA slot of computer.

■ Ethernet Gateway (ETHERNET-GATE) connected to Ethernet LAN.

■ Modbus Gateway (MODGATE) connected to Modbus master equipment.

In the first two instances above, the computer running the Series III soft-ware will have utilized the Computer Operated Network Interface (CONI) card installed in the ISA slot of the computer, the Master INCOM Network Translator II (MINT II), or a combina-tion of both of these products. When updating the software at an existing installation, careful consideration should be administered and all new PowerNet interface hardware options considered when constructing the update bill of material. The CONI, in all cases, will have to be updated to the CONI3 device or equivalent interface communication hardware devices Eaton offers that meet the needs of the appli-cation. As the CONI3 utilizes the ISA slot of the computer, and most new computers do not come equipped with an ISA slot, substituted communication hardware may be required.

In some instances, as specified before, the computer running the Series III software is an industrial computer that has no monitor, keyboard, or mouse and is installed as a part of a larger system solution. This device is referred to as the Ethernet Gateway, catalog number ETHERNETGATE as listed left. In these situations, there is, typically, a main system computer that utilizes additional software solutions to inte-grate the system. The Ethernet Gate-way is used as a way of utilizing the infrastructure of the currently installed Local Area Network (LAN) as a means of collecting data from remote substa-tions. This is not the only item that will require updating if existing in the system.

Series III system solutions, in some cases, incorporated a lot of non-stan-dard equipment to meet various con-nectivity needs. In some instances, where multiple COM ports are required, port splitters were used to expand one COM port into 8, or even 16, equivalent COM ports for commu-nications with remote or local MINT II devices (DIGIBOARD). These various system configuration requirements will have to be ascertained and accounted for before updating.

Update Path:CONI1A products replaced with CONI3.

Note: When updating the computer for the new system software, ISA slots may not be available. In these instances, EMINT or NetLink products are typically employed.

■ MINT II devices are compatible with PowerNet and will not require updating.

■ ETHERNETGATE products should be replaced with NLE1T or NLE2T hardware.

■ MODGATE products should be replaced with NLM1T or NLM2T hardware.

■ MMINT, MEMINT.

For those unique applications that may have Ethernet and Modbus on the same gateway node, the NLD1T or NLD2T product hardware incorporates both Modbus and Ethernet capabilities on the same box.

In all other instances where custom third-party equipment was used to achieve connectivity solutions, third- party vendors should be consulted for appropriate update paths and careful consideration of compatibility with the new PowerNet software to ensure a smooth update path.

Inventory Existing Series III SoftwareSeries III software consists of the main Series III package that includes the engine communicating to the devices through the CONI or the MINT II hardware. Series III came in various packages supporting 20, 200, and/or 1000 devices. The Series III software included most functionality in a single operator interface. It included, but was not limited to, the following features:

■ Monitoring of all real-time parame-ters from the configured devices.

■ Access to change or view the set points of those devices that support this functionality.

■ Logging of selected parameters to ASCII Comma Separated Variable (CSV) files.

■ Device Alarming notification and confirmation viewable via user inter-face and historically captured in ASCII CSV files.

■ Built-in Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) server capabilities.

In addition to the basic Series III soft-ware package, add-on applications were available that expanded the basic functionality of the monitoring soft-ware including, but not limited to, the following features:

■ Energy billing and cost allocation.■ Waveform display.■ Trip curve display.■ Modbus Gateway capabilities.

Identify Graphics Interface Used The IMPACC Series III software was sold with an option for an Enhanced Graphics application, a Wonderware InTouch soft-ware HMI solution. The screens were typically developed by Eaton as a turnkey solution, but this software could be pur-chased separately with development performed by the customer, or by inde-pendent local integrators. The graphics application could be located on the local Series III computer or on remote net-worked computers. It is important to identify all computers in the system that have the Enhanced Graphics application installed.

Update Path:PowerNet is compatible with Wonder-ware InTouch version 7.1 and above. All HMI software locations will require updating to the latest version via the following catalog numbers:

Note: When updating the graphics applica-tion to interface with the PowerNet DDE Server, due to DDE Tag changes, a review of the Tags displayed and used for control will be required for proper modification. Develop-ment time must be allocated for this update.

For those computers networked and running Wonderware InTouch runtime or view-only nodes, PowerNet DDE can be removed and local DDE Server client applications installed for more reliable and quality local DDE communications.

Identify Connectivity Solutions EmployedCommunication system solutions will, in some cases, implement software and/or hardware equipment to share the information gathered from installed meters, relays, and I/O devices with other software and/or systems including Dis-tributed Control Systems (DCS), Building Management Systems (BMS), or Pro-grammable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Connectivity with the Series III system solutions included the following methods:

Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)Used in conjunction with Human Machine Interface (HMI) software applications such as Wonderware and Intellusion. These applications could also be installed on remote computers when PowerNet DDE is utilized to share information over a network. When reviewing an installation, this fact may not be readily discernible and some investigation may be necessary.

Update Path:When updating the Series III software in the section above, DDE comes as a part of the update path.

Note: For remote nodes running Wonder-ware or any other HMI software application, the following catalog number can be pur-chased and installed on the remote PC eliminating the need for implementation of the Microsoft NETDDE solution.

NPDDE PowerNet DDE Server client application software.

Locate this software on the same computer as the HMI software.

Modbus (Series III Computer as Modbus Gateway)Used in conjunction with Building Management Systems, Distributed Control Systems, or even PLCs where the Modbus master equipment is con-nected to the communication serial port of the Series III computer. The Modbus add-on to Series III enables the COM port of the computer to be configured as a Modbus slave, provid-ing the customer the ability to config-ure input and holding registers.

Update Path:NPMODBUS: Client application that turns the COM port of the computer into a Modbus server application. Client can be located on any computer with appropriate operating system and on the same network as the rest of the PowerNet system software.

NPCOREMOD: Turns the COM port of the computer running the PowerNet software core into a Modbus server. This can only be located where the Core software application is located.

Modbus (Industrial PC as Modbus Gateway)Used in conjunction with Building Man-agement Systems, Distributed Control Systems, or even PLCs where the Mod-bus master equipment is connected to the communication serial port of the Series III computer. Available for sale was an industrial computer (no monitor,

keyboard, or mouse) with a Modbus server software application installed. The functionality of the software installed on the Industrial PC focuses on Modbus reg-ister configuration and availability. Other monitor, DDE and trending features com-mon to Series III are not available.

Update Path:NLM1 or NLM2: Series III catalog num-ber MODGATE. NLM1 provides one COM Port for Modbus communications and one INCOM port for communication with INCOM devices. NLM2 provides one COM port for Modbus communica-tions and two INCOM ports for commu-nications with INCOM devices. Modbus registers need to be reconfigured on NetLink as registers are not transferrable.

RS-232 (MINT II with Custom Driver in Master System)Used in conjunction with Building Management Systems, Distributed Control Systems, or even PLCs. In this case, the customer has written or contracted to have written a custom driver that communicates directly to the installed INCOM devices via the MINT II RS-232 interface.

Update Path: Series III software is not a part of this configuration. There is no update path; the MINT II is still a viable solution. For those applications that connect with the Johnson Controls� Metasys� System via the MINT II and Metasys Integrator, the JMI should be used.

RS-232 (Series III PC COM Port Gateway, Custom Driver in Master System)Used in conjunction with Building Man-agement Systems, Distributed Control Systems, or even PLCs. Most common applications include BMS software such as Johnson Controls Metasys System integration. Where customers implemented this solution, the need for the functionality of the Series III is apparent but the sharing of data is required. Updating to PowerNet must pay close attention to this need.

Update Path:Series III had the ability to configure the COM port of the computer into a gate-way which made the COM port look like a MINT II to the master communicating software application. This functionality is not included in the PowerNet soft-ware suite of applications. Connectivity is left to DDE, OPC, or Modbus commu-nications. Before updating, the master software suite vendor should be con-sulted as to which of the above proto-cols is supported and appropriate steps for integration taken.

PONI Family

Product Operated Network Interface (PONI) DevicesThe Product Operated Network Interface (PONI) cards attach to Cutler-Hammer devices to enable communications. These cards serve various functions from Ethernet-type applications, to non-Ethernet-type applications, ultimately playing a key role in facilitating the access to information that each of the Cutler-Hammer devices offer.

The IPONI and BPONI enable commu-nications over a twisted shielded pair INCOM device network. The Ethernet PONI and WEBPONI enable device com-munications over a 10 megabaud Ether-net network. Each PONI attaches to its associated product. The PONI modules obtain power from the host product.

Cutler-Hammer PONI modules can be used as solutions for various applica-tions. There are two basic groups which include the Ethernet enabled products and the non-Ethernet enabled products.

The non-Ethernet product offerings include the IPONI and the BPONI. These devices are typically applied where there are more than one device connected in a network of devices by a dedicated twisted shielded pair of conductors (Ref. IMPCABLE). The communications medium is formatted to enable clean noise-immune communications even when routed around areas of high noise and typical electrical communication disrupting equipment. The IPONI and BPONI daisy chain is the same format as that used in devices that have built-in communications such as the Digitrip trip units and can be used in series with these communication network wiring.

The Ethernet product offerings enable a facility to leverage and strategically utilize the ever growing presence of Ethernet Local Area Networks and the common availability of Ethernet hard-ware. These include the EPONI, EPONIF and the WEBPONI. The EPONI and the EPONIF differ only by the wiring method used to connect to an existing Ethernet LAN. The EPONI connects to an existing Ethernet LAN via 10Base-T and the EPONIF connects via fiber. The applica-tion of EPONI communication devices on existing Ethernet LANs must consider the effect of the non-deterministic nature of shared LANs on the applica-tion. Dedicated LANs are highly recom-mended. These PONIs are used in those applications where an existing Ethernet infrastructure can be utilized to access a small number of devices in remote locations where a common Ethernet LAN is accessible. The Ethernet PONI works together with the PowerNet software suite to make this Ethernet communications happen.

The WEBPONI Ethernet product offering puts a Cutler-Hammer metering product on the Web. No other software is required when specifying the WEB-PONI. All software needed to enable any Internet browser program such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator� is packed into the WEBPONI. The data can be viewed directly from any Internet browser pro-gram such as Internet Explorer and/or Netscape Navigator. The WEBPONI pro-vides live updating data for the meter being monitored, as well as waveform display capabilities and e-mail direct from the device to defined key e-mail addresses that need to know when an event occurs.

IPONI/BPONIWith the addition of the IPONI or the BPONI card, a Cutler-Hammer device or series of devices can communicate with the PowerNet software via a mas-ter unit such as a MINT II, NetLink, EMINT or CONI3 card installed in a personal computer. The PONIs can be easily mounted to the appropriate Cutler-Hammer device and daisy chain together to form a robust deterministic communication network of devices in a system solution. Systems employing the IPONI/BPONI type communications medium provide deterministic communication performance relied on by those critical solution applications, where this is of the utmost importance.

EPONI/EPONIFWith the addition of the Ethernet PONI modules, the Cutler-Hammer devices can connect to an Ethernet LAN once a static IP address is defined in the unit. The PONIs can be easily mounted to the appropriate Cutler-Hammer devices. The device placed on the Ethernet LAN can be accessed and work in conjunc-tion with the PowerNet software installed on a remote computer or by a NetLink also connected to the same.

WEBPONIWith the addition of the WEBPONI modules, the Cutler-Hammer devices can be accessed directly via any Inter-net Web browser such as Internet Explorer and/or Netscape Navigator — the ideal small system solution. PowerNet is not compatible with the WEBPONI unless the WEBPONI is con-figured in EPONI mode, thus shutting down the internal Web server and relinquishing command to the PowerNet software suite.

CONI Card

The Computer Operated Network Interface 3 (CONI3) is a master com-munication card that is mounted in a NetLink or a computer’s ISA expansion slot. The CONI3 maintains backward compatibility with existing IMPACC systems. When used in conjunction with PowerNet Bill software, it sup-ports enhanced throughput and use with a Contact Input Card (CIC) for demand window synchronization of multiple meters based on a single utility sync pulse.

As many as four CONI3 cards may be mounted in a computer or NetLink when used with the Cutler-Hammer PowerNet suite, increasing network performance.

The CONI3 supports a DIP switch selectable base I/O address allowing multiple CONIs and reducing conflicts with other computer cards. When used in conjunction with the PowerNet suite, no interrupts are required to be dedi-cated to the CONI3.

MINT II

Master INCOM Network Translator (MINT) II

The MINT II interfaces the IMPACC net-work to a master control unit with an RS-232 port, such as a personal com-puter serial port, a programmable con-troller RS-232 “smart card,” building management system interface card, etc. (Some software will have to be written in the master control unit to request and receive messages. The MINT II protocol is 10-character, ASCII coded hex.) The MINT II can be used to interface multiple IMPACC devices to Broadband LANs, telephone modem, or short haul modem. It can also be used to allow additional branches of the INCOM data line (five additional branches per MINT II). The MINT II can be either table or panel mounted and requires a 120 Vac, 60 Hz supply. Selectable communication rate of 1200 or 9600 baud is available. The burden for the MINT II is 7 VA.

Johnson Metering Interface (JMI)

Johnson Metering Interface

The JMI is a user-friendly interface for Cutler-Hammer Power Management Products installed on the N2 bus of a Johnson Controls Metasys System. The JMI is ideal where a PowerNet system is not utilized and a direct connection of Cutler-Hammer power management products to an existing Metasys Build-ing Automation System is desired.

This product, coupled with a meter or series of meters, is a unique solution for applications where it is more economi-cal to take advantage of an existing N2 bus infrastructure to combine select power monitoring information with an existing Building Automation System.

■ Interfaces INCOM devices directly to the Johnson Control N2 bus.

■ Presents electrical metering infor-mation from any IQ Multipoint Energy Submeter II, IQ Energy Sentinels, IQ Transfer, IQ Power Sentinels, IQ 200, IQ 300, IQ DP-4000 and IQ Analyzer.

Note: The 6400/6600 Series of Analyzer must be programmed for the communication mode of the IQ Analyzer 6000/6200 series.■ Powered from a 24 Vdc source

which is also used by the N2 supervisory controller.

■ Perfect for commercial applications where energy and power informa-tion is required.

The Analog Input Module (AIM) is a microprocessor-based analog input data acquisition device designed for use with

Cutler-Hammer PowerNet networks. It is intended to record customer utility infor-mation by monitoring signals from pri-mary measurement devices such as gas and water flow transducers, pulse output contacts, BTU and steam flow meters, temperature and pressure sensors, equipment run-time and other devices.

■ 32 input channels, non-isolated, +/- 10 volts maximum 499 ohm input impedance. Capacitor backed-up RAM.

■ Current input: 0 – 20 mA dc accuracy +/- 0.02 mA from 0.2 – 20 mA (excludes sensor error) resolution 0.01 mA.

■ Pulse input: Form “A” contact closure 10 Hz maximum, 50% duty cycle 10 mS de-bounce.

■ Run-time input: Form “A” contact closure.

■ Power supply: 120 Vac/24 Vdc.

Addressable Relay II (ARII)

The Addressable Relay II is designed for use where information or control of non-communicating devices is required remotely. The relays communicate on the PowerNet system. Devices are assigned a three-digit address to uniquely identify them on the daisy-chained twisted shielded pair network.

The ARII has a Form C relay on board with two status indicating circuit inputs. The output relay can be activated and monitored remotely. Input status 1 and 2 can be monitored remotely.

IMPCABLEThe IMPCABLE was designed to be run in switchgear where codes require a 600 volt insulation rating. Typical “blue hose” cables are rated at 300 volts. The IMPCABLE is an 18 AWG cable with a 100 ohm impedance at 100 kHz tuned to work optimally with the FSK signal from Cutler-Hammer devices. The cable has been designed with characteristics that allow up to 1,000 devices or distances up to 10,000 feet from the master.

The NetLink translates INCOM Frequency Shift Key (FSK) to standard Ethernet TCP/IP messages or to Mod-bus RTU. Additionally, the product acts as a data logger to store event and trend information.

Ethernet NetLinkThe Ethernet NetLink is a server for Cutler-Hammer PowerNet device infor-mation to PowerNet software clients on local or enterprise networks.

The Ethernet NetLink enables the following functionality:

■ Connection of up to 200 PowerNet meters and protective relays to an Ethernet network.

■ Localized data collection at the sub-station or equipment building level.

■ Data logger capabilities to store event and trend information from attached PowerNet devices.

■ Flexible system placement on a dedicated or shared facility Ethernet networks.

■ A 10Base-T port for communications at 10 Meg baud on any Ethernet network supporting TCP/IP packets.

■ Remote configuration which is kept safe in non-volatile memory.

■ Available for purchase with either one or two INCOM parts to increase data throughput where required.

Modbus NetLinkThe Modbus NetLink is a server for PowerNet device information to Modbus master equipment via Modbus RTU registers over an RS-232 communica-tion medium.

The Modbus NetLink enables the following functionality:

■ Connection of up to 200 PowerNet meters and protective relays into Modbus RTU registers.

■ Register mapping technique to map up to 10,000 read registers for real-time data and read/write registers for control commands.

■ A 10Base-T port for direct configura-tion, which is stored in non-volatile memory.

■ Available for purchase with either one or two INCOM ports to increase data throughput where required.

Dual Ethernet and Modbus NetLinkThe Ethernet and Modbus NetLink combines the functionality of the Ethernet and Modbus NetLinks into one package.

The Contact Input Card (CIC) works in conjunction with Cutler-Hammer PowerNet Energy Billing Software and a CONI3 to synchronize all demand windows for energy billing to a single synchronization pulse. The card is located in a Master Computer. Only one card is required in a system. The location of the Contact Input Card should be the Master Computer closest to the available utility synchronization pulse. A CONI3 Card is required in conjunction with the CIC.
