    Understanding Visual Elements

    Graphic elements can make or break design in any medium. This session will give you an overview of the

    kinds of visual elements available to you photographs, illustrations, information graphics, etc. and

    how to use them effectively. (You may discover graphic elements you didnt even know existed.)

    The Future of Journalism: Two Possible Paths

    Choose from two panel discussions:

    Your Future in Print Media

    Print journalism may not be dying but its certainly changing shape. Three people who are strongly

    entrenched in print journalism and who are shaping its future will tell how theyre doing this and look

    Your Future in New Media

    If you pursue a career in media, the jobs you will work in may not even currently exist. But successful

    models for online-only journalism are now in taking shape. Three journalists who are now online-only will

    discuss where they work now, how they got there and look into their crystal balls to discuss the future

    for students who want to work in what we currently call new media.

    THE ART OF THE INTERVIEW

    Reporting is all about getting information and communicating it from one group of people your sources

    to another. In this session, a veteran reporter will help you build your reporting and interviewing skills

    and even get information from people who may be reluctant to give it to you.

    PHOTOJOURNALISM: MORE THAN PRETTY PICTURES

    An effective photo is the essence of journalism. In this session, a Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist

    will provide you with tips to help make your photographs visual journalism in the truest sense of the term.
