Happy February Timber Creek Parents and Students!
February is yet another fun packed month with lots of fantastic activities and events occurring at Timber Creek.
Before we discuss the events of February it is important to say thank you to all of you who visited the Holiday
Shoppe and enjoyed a special visit with Santa. Santa let us know that he was very impressed with the children of
Timber Creek. Thank you to the parents who volunteered & assisted us during the week, without your help we
would not have been able to have such a successful event.
The fun of February starts on Wednesday the 5th with the first Tiger Shop of 2014. We will have T-Shirts and Sweat-
shirts available for sale as well as lots of other fantastic items.
February 5th is also teacher treat day, sponsored by 2nd and 3rd Grades. With February being American Heart Month,
we are asking these grades to bring Heart Healthy treats for our teachers.
On February 11th we will be having our spirit night at Pazzo’s (next to Party City). Pazzo’s has been a longtime sup-
porter & family member at Timber Creek and their food is DELICIOUS!
On February 17th we will be launching a coupon book fundraiser…this unique book includes coupons to stores you
shop at like Tom Thumb, Toys R Us, Ulta, & Five and Below. More information can be found in this edition of Tiger
Tails.
On Monday February 24th the Spring Book Fair will be taking over the library for the week, bringing wonderful books
right inside Timber Creek for the children to purchase. During this week we will have Breakfast & Books on the
Wednesday & our family event, Thursday evening featuring the annual bake-off. More information regarding all the
book fair events is in the pages of this Tiger Tails edition.
Have you been sending in those Box Tops, Coke Rewards and Labels for Education? These fund many great pro-
grams at Timber Creek including BOOKFLIX.
Did you know that your PTA is committed to parent education, family engagement and advocacy? We are com-
mitted to your kids. Please join us today. Joining does not sign you up to volunteer…but we won’t say no if you want
to!
Interested in a position on the PTA board or working on a committee for the 2014-2015 school year? Elections for
board positions will be held in April and some committees will be starting to meet before the end of this school year.
If you are interesting in learning more about any of these roles, please do not hesitate to contact me for more infor-
mation.

Our second semester of school has officially begun! Throughout the building there is evidence that our Timber Creek students are focused on taking their learning to the next level. This week, for example, I witnessed 2nd grade students using Thinking Maps independently to arrange their thoughts as a prewriting strategy. They were able to explain why they chose the particular Thinking Map as an organizational tool and what their next steps were in the writing process. The students I spoke with were confident in their decisions and proud of their accomplishments.
Although I was quite impressed with that experience, I then walked into a 1st grade class and was equally impressed. I observed a young man appear quite passionate about his iPad creation. When I asked what he was doing he explained to me why he chose to complete his writing assignment on an iPad and how he took his own pho-tograph and imported it to make the piece personal. Success was written all over his face!
Conversations like the two I shared are common and are evidence that the students at Timber Creek are engaged in their learning and understand how to make decisions and support their choices. Already our teachers are seeing the benefits of their ex-emplary instruction as we are just starting this second half of our school year. As al-ways, we appreciate your support at home as the instructional bar continues to be raised!
A quick Valentine’s Day party update –
The class parties will be on Valentine’s Day, February 14, from 1:45-2:45 with the exception of AM Prekindergarten. Their party will be 9:45-10:45. We are striving to meet the needs of our students, as they are our first priority. Thank you for your co-operation as we continually re-evaluate and hopefully, improve upon our proce-dures.
I would like to thank all of you that have acknowledged a staff member with a Tiger Tribute. Our first recognitions were held during our January faculty meeting and it was a pleasant surprise for those who were presented the certificate along with the comments submitted. Please help us keep this recognition program going strong by taking a few moments to recognize a staff member. It’s an easy way to show your appreciation.

Dear Timber Creek Families:
Our Spring Book Fair is almost here! Please join us the week of February 24-28 in the Timber Creek
Library for our Book Fair Fiesta!
We will be open Monday-Thursday during school hours and Friday until 12:00 p.m., as well as
special extended hours on Wednesday, February 26 from 6:50-7:50 a.m. for our Breakfast with
Books event and Thursday, February 27 from 5:00-7:30 p.m.
We are also still in need of volunteers for various areas: Decorating for and setting up the fair, do-
nating items for Breakfast With Books, packing up the fair, and, most importantly, helping the kids
during the class preview and/or purchase times (we especially need extra hands for Pre-K through
2nd grade class times). You can sign up easily using Volunteer Spot at http://vols.pt/pjt6Uq, or if
you’d prefer, you may email me directly at [email protected] and let me know how you’d
like to help. Please consider spending a little time at Book Fair; it is a lot of fun and a great way to
meet other Timber Creek parents.
Please see the attached schedule for the days and times your child’s class will be visiting the fair.
Thanks in advance for your participation in helping to make this a fun and exciting event for our chil-dren!
Sincerely,
Angela Holcomb

Timber Creek’s Morning Mile Club
Beginning on Monday, January 6, Timber Creek students will have the opportunity to participate in our Morning Mile Club. This is
open to all students in Kindergarten – 5th grade. Research shows that students are better prepared to learn when their day begins
with exercise. Runners/walkers will start their day at 7:15, out by Tiger Field. They will walk or jog laps, while socializing with friends,
each morning they choose to participate. The gym and cafeteria will still be open for all students who choose not to attend. Miles will
be tracked, and students will be rewarded with a necklace and running charms for the completion of each 10 miles.
There are many benefits to this program:
Exercise helps to prevent childhood obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and other health concerns
Students expend youthful energy and go to class ready to learn
Students gain self confidence while getting more fit
Students will develop a dedication to a healthy lifestyle.
The morning mile will take place daily, Monday – Friday, weather permitting. The Morning Mile Facebook page web address is
https://www.facebook.com/TCEmorningmile . You can also sign up for Remind101 by texting (310) 776-6515 and typing @tcemm for
the message. This will alert you, by text, of cancellations due to the weather. We will be running as long as the temperature/wind
chill is above 34˚ and it is not raining. PLEASE SIGN UP FOR BOTH OF THESE!!!
If you are interested in helping with the morning mile, please contact Mrs. Dutt @ [email protected]. You will need to have a completed
LISD background check to help.
We look forward to healthy start to 2014!

Shoe Collection
I am currently collecting gently used athletic shoes that the kids can wear, to
PE, when they forget theirs, don’t have any, or can’t find them. Students are
missing out on fun and exercise when they do not have on proper footwear.
Please send gently used shoes that your kids have outgrown to the gym. If we
receive an overabundance of shoes, some will be donated to our Timber Creek
shoe collection box.
Thank you

Reminders &
New Info!
Arrival Process Change
Effective Monday, Oct 28, there will be a slight change in our arrival procedures. The back drop-off area, or blacktop area, will remain staffed to receive students at 7:15 AM; however the front drop off area will not be staffed to receive students until 7:30. Students continue to be welcomed at school as early as 7:15, but if you are arriving prior to 7:30, please drop off at the back drop off area. Thank you for your flexibility as we transition to the new plan.
Reporting Absences
Reminder about Reporting absences: Please be sure to report your student's ab-sence within 3 days by (1) sending in a note with the date, child's first & last name, teacher's name, and reason for the absence, (2) email this information to Mrs. Tarver
at [email protected], or (3) call the school attendance line and leave a detailed message with the absence information (469) 713-5961, EXT 2. Please note that you only need to follow through with ONE of these methods of reporting the absence, not all three.
Thank you, and have a great day!

Get involved with TCE PTA and
Volunteer!!!
Whether your child is 5 or 18, it is never too late to get involved!
Volunteering at school is a great way to show your kids that their school and their edu-
cation is important!
Volunteering teaches by example that it is important to give back to the community.
Not only will Timber Creek reap the benefits of your involvement — you will, too! By in-
teracting with teachers and other parents, you'll gain a firsthand understanding of your
child's daily life. You will get to know the other children that surround your child every
day. You'll also tap into trends of school life that can help you communicate with your
kids as they grow.
And did you know volunteering with the PTA is FUN!?!! We help with exciting things like
the BOOK FAIR, FALL Festival, PARTIES, and Teacher treat days! We get into school areas
most parents don't get to see.
There are many ways YOU can volunteer! Various committees, Fall Fest, Tiger Shop, Li-
brary assistance, Book Fair, and our PTA bulletin board, just to name a few!
To sign up for our General Volunteer list, please go to our VolunteerSpot located online
at http://vols.pt/n9vzZ6 . Or use your phone and scan the code to sign up.
Thank you in advance for helping Timber Creek, our amazing teachers, and our wonder-
ful children out this 2013-14 school year! ~TCE PTA
