The idea for County Seat evolved out of the production of our outdoor recreation program At Your Leisure. The outdoor program took us all over the state and that is where we began meeting County Commissioners. There were a couple of conversations with different commissioners around the state where it was mentioned that it was too bad we couldn’t do a story about Jail Funding, Centrally Assessed Taxes, or Economic Development in Rural Utah. The seed for what would become the County Seat was planted. Five years later, the County Seat is delivering the kinds of stories you won’t hear from other media outlets. We produce stories about local county governments in both the rural and urban areas of UTAH. The County Seat covers the challenges faced by livestock grazers, the process of taxation, and in-depth coverage of a number of public lands issues that affect the entire state of UTAH. The program airs every Sunday Morning at 8:30am on the ABC affiliate out of Salt Lake City (KTVX channel 4) and is rebroadcast 20 times a week by local cable producers across the state. The County Seat started its first season in 2011 with the support of 13 counties and the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA). Today there are 25 sponsors of the program including Utah Association of Counties, SITLA, and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. Each program focuses on an issue by first presenting a short story that provides the background for a panel discussion that takes place later in the program. In addition to our regular show format we have also produced more in-depth coverage of topics such as Wilderness, Sage Grouse, or a description of the roles played by elected officials within county government. These programs became mini-documentaries on hot-button issues for the counties. The program has been a good fit for Counties because there are a number of compelling stories to be told that until now have been overshadowed by the current affairs coming out of Washington. We like to remind our viewers that the government that affects them most is the one they know the least about. Please look over this media kit and watch an episode or two by clicking here. We would like to applaud the support of our sponsors in making this project happen. Sincerely, Chad Booth Executive Producer Derek Dowsett Producer Broadcasting the voice of the Counties

Sincerely,

One of the fundamental differences in how we produce the show is in how it is Distributed. Typically a news cast or program is produced and aired once on one channel. We believe that this information is important to a broad audience and should be spread as far and wide as possible. The County Seat is broadcast across the state 20 times per week.It airs every Sunday at 8:30am on the ABC affiliate out of Salt Lake City, KTVX Channel 4, and is broadcast on four of UTAH’s major cable systems; as wells as Southern Utah Live and Comcast on Demand. Current rating numbers indicate an audience in excess of 40,000 homes per week.In additional to our traditional broadcasts we have ramped up our internet presence through social media, YouTube (55,000 views), Facebook (629 Followers)and our website. Each source provides information about upcoming shows, important background information and the ability to view, share, and embed previous shows.
