INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY LUNCHEON- REPORT

My hopes and dreams in twenty years’ time by Simone Miller Imagine crystal clear sparkling marine waterways filled with a healthy biodiversity of marine life thriving in their pristine ecosystem.

There are no longer any plastic bags suffocating innocent marine creatures or rubbish being dumped and spoiling our beautiful oceans.

The salinity of the water is in peak condition and the oceans are no longer being overfished. Good afternoon ladies, teachers and fellow students. My name is Simone and these are my hopes and dreams for twenty years’ time.

My biggest dream for my professional life is to become a marine biologist.

Just think about how amazing your life would be if it revolved around the ocean and the marine life of the community around you.

As a marine biologist I hope to have the opportunity to study the marine life of our local area and to improve any environmental issues that need to be addressed.

I would like to hope that by this time, in 20 years, I have had a successful career in marine biology and have been making many positive changes to our local marine community.

I would really like to hope that the major environmental issues that our marine life faces today, such as the pollution of waterways, the over fishing and the increased salinity is simply a problem of the past.

I want to be a big part of this environmental change because I want future generations to enjoy the beautiful home that we live in as much as I do now.

Wouldn’t it be nice to picture a world of tolerance and acceptance? My biggest hope for the world in general is that we become a kinder place.

I look around at my school and see the acceptance that students show towards others. We have many children who attend our school with different abilities and needs. One of our Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations is respect.

As children we are taught and expected to show respect. Respect for ourselves and others. We do this by being supportive of all.

I look around at the world today and see many issues seem to be caused because of the difference in people’s religion, race and personal choices.

Why can’t adults show the same respect that is expected from children?

I hope that in 20 years’ time people have moved beyond these differences and instead have tolerance. I hope that my children live in a world that is dominated by respect and love for all instead of terrorism and wars.

These are my hopes for the future. I would like to believe that they will come true one day. I know that I will be doing my hardest to achieve my dreams.
