Tea is considered a health drink instead of a simple energizer.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Tea can be prepared in a number of ways, but usually it is made into black or green tea.

Manufacturing of black tea under two distinctive methods via orthodox and CTC in voyage both in the north as well as south India.

Cont..WITHERINGIn the process of withering, the leaf is

spread in thin layers to obtain maximum exposure.

The period of withering in orthodox manufacture lasts 16 to 18 hours.

During this period the total loss of water from 100 kg of fresh leaves ranges from 25 to 50 kg.

ROLLING:● Rolling actually is the mechanical development of the original hand rolling process, the primary objective strictly being to wring out juice from the leaves. ● In doing so, leaf acquired a twist and since then trade has been insisting on the special appearance of tea from traditional tea processing.● This process is done in CTC factory with the help of a shredder, rotor vane and CTC cutter.

FERMENTATION:● The fermentation process is the characterized part in the black tea processing because, during this stage, the most important properties of tea are produced.● This process is carried out simply by laying the powder in thin layers, in a plain room under special conditions of humidity and temperature.

DRYING:● It is the most critical phase in the sequence of operation involved in converting plucked tea shoots into made tea.● It is the most critical phase in the sequence of operation involved in converting plucked tea shoots into made tea.

GRADING AND SORTING● Grading after conventional processing is always combined with refining of course materials by cutting or other methods and with the removal of stalks, fibre and foreign matter.● An important point in sorting out the true grades considering appearance, size and liquoring qualities.

PACKING● Tea is packed by packing machines in plywood tea chests. Tea chests are of standard size.● Due to the scarcity of plywood, now tea is packed in polythene lined gunny bags for internal market.● The tea dust is then packed in jute bags containing light polythene bags.● So that the tea does not lose its flavor.● Bags are then marked according to the type of tea they contain and send to main auction centers in India.

SUGGESTIONS

Modern techniques of production should be adopted.

Factory should take more interest in promotional activities like reduction of price and gift schemes for rapid increase in sales.

supervisors in the organization so that they effectively lead and guide the organization.

Pollution control measures should be adopted in order to reduce the sound pollution and dust which affect the health of the workers.

The factory is located in Kotagiri; here raw materials and labour force are easily available.

The factory is collecting raw materials from the members of the firm.

Various departments are functioning under this unit.

This will help in smooth running of the factory.
