YOU’VE ARRIVED!Welcome to the World of TEFLTeaching English as a Foreign Language is your passport to earning abroad while making a lasting contribution to the lives of others. As a TEFL teacher, you’ll improve the educational and career choices of your students and enable them to become part of the wider global community of English speakers. At the same time, you’ll experience a new culture and rewarding job while building your travel portfolio and making new friends internationally! So, if you can speak English, you’re nearly there! It just takes a TEFL course to kick-start your new teaching adventure abroad!

To TEFL or not to TEFL... Why get qualified? Your qualification will mean the world to you — literally, the world! With your certificate, you’ll be able to pick up paid work as you travel or secure a long term contract abroad. Additionally, your experiences abroad will open the door to new opportunities everywhere, as you’ll stun employers with a CV full of unique experiences and have the ability to network internationally for other job types. Anything else? Well, just crazy excursions between teaching, memories that will stay with you forever and a whole network of friends and contacts spanning the globe.

Who studies TEFL with us? Anyone that can say the English alphabet forwards, backwards and while balanced on their heads. We’re only joking! There’s no type of person – in fact the only real commonality is that all our tutees speak English at a native level and have a passion to earn money while teaching abroad. Our TEFL graduates range from… students looking for adventure, career-breakers seeking change, teachers wanting to advance their skills and retirees wanting to make a difference. But between our 60,000 graduates, you’ll also find dancers, zookeepers, honeymooners, avid travelers or even wine connoisseurs… to name a few!

Who will train you to teach? We hate to brag – really we do, but our skilled tutors are top notch! They’re the lettuce in our salad, the mint in our Mojito, the… well, you get the idea: they’re one of the reasons why our TEFL graduates recommend us everyday! With at least three years experience of living and teaching abroad and expert teaching credentials, they have the true skills and experience to help you fulfil your potential.

QUESTIONS?Your i-to-i TEFL Basics are Right Here!TEFL/ TESOL/ TESL/ ELT…What’s with all the acronyms? Schools abroad use different acronyms, but they all refer to the teaching of English to non-native English speakers and the different acronyms are equally recognized by schools abroad.

Do I need to speak any other language than English? Nope! It actually benefits the classroom if you don’t, as the simple exposure to pure English speeds up students’ progress. Why do you think locals in tourist cities usually know English… it’s the constant exposure and ability to continuously practice it.

What’s the overseas demand for TEFL teachers? As English continues to emerge as the global language, the demand is incredibly high and always on the rise. Speaking English can mean a better life, more money and greater futures for local communities abroad.

Will an i-to-i TEFL qualification help me find work abroad? We’ve trained 60,000 people in the last 14 years who are now spread all over the globe teaching English, our courses are recognized by thousands of language institutes throughout the world, and we have 8,000+ contacts in nearly every country in the world… so in a word: yes!

What sort of teaching can I do? Anything from private lessons to teaching in classrooms or even local businesses. You could also take part in team or volunteer teaching! This is only naming a few of the options TEFL teachers find abroad!

Can i-to-i organize my job? We offer a job placement service where we’ll put you in direct contact with reputable job agents around the world. Just tell us where you want to go, a bit about yourself and we’ll get your application started! Find out more on page 16.

We’ve got loads of TEFL resources on our website, so visit us at www.onlinetefl.com or just give us a call!

In the last 14 years more than 60,000 English speakers have become TEFL qualified through i-to-i’s accredited TEFL courses and are currently teaching English all around the world. But…where did it all begin…where did our TEFL courses come from?

A mummy course and a daddy course? Not exactly…Many, many moons ago, we decided to add a bit of zest, excitement and flexibility into the world of TEFL after spending over a decade teaching English abroad. Through our extensive experiences abroad we learned that prospective teachers only needed a short and practical course that taught them how to put lessons together, communicate effectively with students and let their students have fun while learning English!

That’s where our internationally accredited TEFL courses come into the picture! We worked with academics and TEFL experts far and wide to develop a range of courses that met the needs of classrooms abroad and prepared our teachers for their experiences. Additionally, i-to-i is externally accredited by the ODLQC in order to ensure that our courses are rigorously monitored and always meet the highest standards. In October 2008, we were pleased to have been re-assessed and accredited for another 3 years by the ODLQC.

BOLIVIA“Beyond my imagination. You can imagine what it would be like to stand in front of a class and explain stuff. But it’s the small things that make the difference. The contact with the students, the odd questions you get (not just about the class), and the unfamiliar environment. Try getting a group of children to pay attention all at the same time, or have a class full of teenagers sharing chairs because there aren’t enough for them.”

HUNGARY“It was great - Like many people I did it thinking, ‘I get to live in Europe! Oh, and I guess I have to do this teaching thing... I’ll adjust to it somehow.’ But the teaching turned out to be the highlight! Adrian Thurnwald from Australia

Sarah McDonald from Australia
