Teacher Roles and Responsibilities Helping students select, manage, and implement successful SAEs Objective Explain the role of the agricultural education teacher in successful supervised agricultural experience (SAE) programs. Teacher Responsibilities Provide classroom instruction about SAEs Help identify SAE opportunities for students Promote accurate recordkeeping Teacher Responsibilities Visit and supervise SAE programs Educate school administrators and employers about SAE programs Encourage students to have SAEs Instruction about SAEs Connect classroom instruction with SAE programs (include non-traditional SAEs) Teach a 3-5 day unit during the first month of school to all incoming students Have students list how they, personally, will benefit from having a SAE Identify SAE Opportunities Contact local agribusiness employers about opportunities for your students Examples: feed store, veterinarian's office, Tractor Supply, local farms and ranches Create a list in your community Recordkeeping Schedule time in each class for students to update their record books Communicate this with students EARLY, so they can come prepared Visit and Supervise Visit students regularly to check on progress (remember this is part of your job!) Keep good records from your visits Visit and Supervise Discuss successes and improvements with the student and parents/employers Develop SAE plan (See AET) Points to Consider Visiting students at home Transporting students School project centers Educate Stakeholders about SAE Programs Send a welcoming letter to parents of new students in this letter include what to expect as a parent of an agriculture student, specifically explain FFA and SAE benefits Invite your superintendent/principal to SAE visits, banquets, conventions, etc. Keep them informed!!!!! Encourage Students Have a bulletin board displaying SAE programs Encourage students to speak to other classes about their SAE If possible, have the intro classes visit SAE programs of older students Encourage Students Have SAE a part of the grading system make it a requirement Have a SAE/FFA Wall of Fame display plaques, pictures and student accomplishments Have students apply for FFA Proficiency Awards Review Objective Today we: Explained the role of the agricultural education teacher in successful supervised agricultural experience (SAE) programs.
