INTRODUCTION:
Harmonious Pilates school has been training teachers since 2002. Among our graduates are successful Pilates teachers working independently as well as Pilates studio owners and licensed physical therapists.
In addition to training teachers, over the years, we have conducted continued education workshops for Pilates teachers as well as numerous workshops for physical therapists.
In 2017, we offered continued education workshops as a PMA CEC provider. We have also completed a research study on the subject of utilizing Pilates as a form of rehabilitation after a knee reconstruction surgery. Our research poster was presented at the 17th Annual Meeting of the Pilates Method Alliance.
FACILITIES
Harmonious Pilates is located in a professional building at 1025 Northern Boulevard, Suite 93, Roslyn, New York 11576. Our studio is 1800 square feet. We have one large space housing 5 Reformers, 1 Trapeze Table (Cadillac), 6 Mats, 5 Towers, 1 Low Chair, 1 High Chair, Ped-O-Pull, High/Ladder Barrel, 5 Spine Correctors and several pieces of small apparatus and props. We have a life-size skeleton, muscle charts, diagrams and DVDs available to enhance the learning experience. Additionally, we have changing room and an office space. The building is equipped with an elevator.

MISSION:
Our school’s mission is to train future Pilates teachers who will strive to preserve the timeless teachings of Joseph and Clara Pilates.
At Harmonious Pilates we teach classical Pilates repertoire. We maintain the original order of the exercises, transitions, emphasize the importance of precise instructions and teach methods of layering the information.
GOALS
To provide in depth knowledge of all aspects of the Pilates method to the trainees
To create teachers well versed in various applications of the Pilates method
To instill the importance of maintaining professional integrity as Pilates teachers
To encourage forward thinking and further development as Pilates professionals
To prepare the graduates to sit for the Pilates Method Alliance certified teacher exam.
To proof the value of apprenticeship-based system of training

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
To enroll, prospective trainee must:
- be a high school graduate of have a high school equivalency diploma
- be 18 years of age
- pass an entrance evaluation exam demonstrating proficiency in intermediate level Reformer
- have beginner level understanding of Mat and Cadillac
- be injury free
- feel the benefits of Pilates in their own body and be able to take corrections
- be eager to learn, be motivated, disciplined, and passionate about classical Pilates.
- sign an Enrollment Agreement with Harmonious Pilates, Inc.
Acceptance into the program does not guarantee graduation.
If a prospective trainee does not meet the enrollment requirements they are encouraged to take instructions from the Harmonious Pilates staff and be reevaluated for free after a mutually agreed upon period of time.

PREPARATORY COURSE
For prospective trainees who have never practiced Pilates and are not ready to be enrolled in the Teacher Training Program a preparatory course is available.
Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program Director will design a 3 or 6 month-long course for the prospective trainee who will be required to take private instructions, join group classes and work out independently to achieve the skills required to enter the program.
Participants of the preparatory program receive 20% discount for private lessons and group classes and are required to pay $110 per month to use the studio’s equipment for independent workouts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program meets and exceeds the standards established by the Pilates Method Alliance. Pilates Method Alliance requires minimum of 450 hours of training. Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program is comprised of 870 hours in total plus exams. It takes 10 – 12 months to complete the program. The program consists of two parts: 750 apprenticeship hours and 120 lecture hours.
PART 1
Formal Lecture Series:
The 60-hour lecture cycle covers all the exercises on Mat, all pieces of equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, High and Low Chair, Ped-O-Pull, High Barrel, Half Barrel, Spine Corrector) and small apparatus (Magic Circle, Bean Bag, Foot Corrector, Toe Gizmo, Head Harness, small weights).
It explains modifications for different ability levels, therapeutic application of Pilates, kinesthetic anatomy and teaching techniques.
Every trainee is obligated to take the lecture cycle twice.
Lectures are conducted during 4 weekends (Fri, Sat and Sun) spread out during a 5-month period of time. Each Trainee is obligated to repeat the lecture cycle. (120 hours total).

PART 2
Apprenticeship:
750- hours apprenticeship is the principal part of training program
It consists of:
-200 observation hours
(observing Harmonious Pilates, Inc instructors teach clients). Trainees are required to keep detailed notes
- 100 lessons
(private instructions and group classes taken at Harmonious Pilates, Inc. ) the ratio of group classes to private lessons taken must be approved by Harmonious Pilates, Inc. program Director.
- 150 personal workouts
(working out on your own without an instructor during the studio’s operating hours)
- 250 practice teaching hours
(practice teaching volunteer clients) It is trainees’ responsibility to bring volunteer (non-paying) clients to the studio. The studio may provide volunteer clients but it is not obligated to do so. Trainee who completed at least 6 months of training may be assigned a paying client with Harmonious Pilates, Inc. approval. Discounted rates for lessons with trainees apply.
-50 miscellaneous hours
(books, videos, podcasts and specialized workshops – approved by Harmonious Pilates , Inc.).

In order to timely complete the program (10-12 months) the trainee needs to devote more than 15 hours per week to the program.
Trainees are required to keep a log as a proof of satisfying the apprenticeship requirement.
Verifying signature of instructors employed only by Harmonious Pilates, Inc must validate all entries.
Trainees have to complete all the lessons, personal workouts, student teaching, case study and observations at Harmonious Pilates, Inc. unless otherwise specified in the contract.

EXAMS:
Written exams:
1. Anatomy exam – should be taken between 1st and 2nd Lecture weekend.
2. Mid-year theory exam – should be taken after completing the 1st Lecture cycle
3. Final theory exam plus final case study report. This exam should be taken in the 10th month of the Program.
Performance exam
Level V on mat or Reformer, supplemented by chosen by Harmonious Pilates, Inc. advanced exercises on the Cadillac and Chair.
Teaching exams
1st exam is a practice teaching exam designed to evaluate the trainee as a teacher. Trainee receives detailed, written feedback.
2nd exam is the final teaching exam with detailed, written feedback as well.
Teaching exams should be scheduled at least a month apart.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:
Trainees are required to:
- attend all Lectures
- complete 750 hours of Apprenticeship documented by a log with all entries verified by authorized signatures
- complete a Case Study ( teaching 30 hours of Pilates to a non-paying client and keeping SOAP notes)
- complete Anatomy Coloring Book – due between 1st and 2nd Lecture
- complete reading books and publications suggested by Harmonious Pilates , Inc.
- receive a passing score of 85% or higher on all six exams: 3 written exams, 1 performance exam, 2 teaching exams

TUITION AND FEES
Evaluation lesson $85 - required before admitting the prospective trainee into the program. A prep program may be needed in order to develop the necessary skills to enter the Teacher Training Program.
Tuition:
$ 6,000 includes:
- 120 hours of Formal lecture series
- 10 private lessons at Harmonious Pilates, Inc.
- full access to Harmonious Pilates, Inc. studio for apprenticeship (observing, working out and trainee-teaching)
- quarterly progress review
- mid-year evaluation of teaching skills and of personal workout
- all exams (3 written, 2 teaching, 1 performance)
- registration fee to take the PMA certified teacher exam

Tuition does not include the cost of private lessons or group classes.
Trainees receive 20% discount on private lessons and group classes at Harmonious Pilates, Inc. for the duration of the program.
Tuition is paid in full before the commencement of the program or in 4 installments of $1,500 each upon mutually agreed to in writing dates.
We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
2.75% service charge will be applied to all credit card transactions.
Partial or full payment alone without satisfactory completion of the program requirements does not entitle the trainee to receive a certificate of completion of the Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program.

TERMS OF COMPLETION
Diploma is awarded to trainees who score 85% and higher on all of the tests and submit a valid apprenticeship log. Program must be completed within one year.
EXTENSION
6-month extensions of the 12-month long Teacher Training Program may be purchased for additional $ 650.
Terms of the extension are subject to a separate contract.

TRAINEE’S RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The trainees of Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program receive full access to the studio, its teachers, clients and equipment during studio’s business hours. The business hours are Mon-Fri 8am – 8pm, Sat 8am – 1pm. The Studio is closed on Sundays.
Trainees receive hands-on, closely supervised, thorough training in all aspects of classical Pilates.
Trainees are expected to conduct themselves in respectful and mature manner and follow the trainee protocols for observations, personal workouts and practice teaching.
There is absolutely no soliciting of the Harmonious Pilates clients for personal gains.
All personal data of Harmonious Pilates clients, as well as its employees is a property of the Studio and it is confidential. Trainees must have a valid Professional Liability Insurance to practice teach non-paying and paying clients at Harmonious Pilates. The Program Director will assist the trainee in obtaining the above.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY
Harmonious Pilates, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, color, race or religion.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY
Sexual harassment is against Harmonious Pilates studio policy and will not be tolerated. The studio will provide trainees with reasonable opportunity to complain about harassment and takes prompt and effective action to stop the harassment once it is reported. Any student who feels s/he has been subject to sexual harassment should take the following actions:
Speak directly to the source of the discrimination.
If this is not a reasonable option, or if such an option does not remedy the situation, speak with Joanna Telacka, Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program Director.

ATTENDANCE Trainees are required to attend all lectures. If the trainee does miss the lecture, they must make appropriate arrangements with the Program Director to attend make up meeting/ meetings. The fee for make up instructions is $65 per hour.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
In case of the Trainee’s inability to continue the program for medical reasons, Harmonious Pilates Teacher Training Program may be suspended for a period of up to one-year from the date of occurrence of the illness, injury, or medical condition. Proper documentation signed by a licensed physician is required. The documentation must be submitted no later than 30 days after the illness, injury or medical condition has occurred. The Trainee is not permitted to resume any activity at Harmonious Pilates, Inc. without a written permission from a licensed physician attesting to the Trainee’s ability to fully resume and participate in the Program.
In case of other circumstances that may force the trainee to seek a leave of absence, a reasonable effort will be made by Harmonious Pilates, Inc. to accommodate the trainee’s needs.

DISMISSAL
Trainees dismissed from the program will be notified in writing and may appeal to the Program Director of Harmonious Pilates, Inc. within three days of receiving the dismissal letter. Appeals may be addressed to Joanna Telacka, Program Director, 1025 Northern Blvd. Suite 93, Roslyn, NY 11576
GRIEVANCE POLICY
Any student with a complaint or a grievance should take the following actions:
Contact the person with whom they have the grievance and attempt to resolve the issue informally.
If this is not a reasonable option, or if such an option does not remedy the situation, students
should speak with Joanna Telacka, the Program Director at Harmonious Pilates.
If the matter is still not resolved, students may appeal in writing to the Pilates School Approval

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
If the trainee cancels their enrollment prior to the commencement of the program, the trainee will receive a full refund within 7 business days. If the trainee withdraws after the commencement of the program, the trainee is entitled to a pro-rated refund. Lecture hours and lessons already taken will be subtracted from the refund at the rate of $ 660 for the Lecture weekend and $110 for studio fee.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS POLICY AND PROCEDURE
Harmonious Pilates accepts candidates who partially fulfilled requirements of another program or graduated from another program but wish to further expand their knowledge. The applicant must be evaluated by the Program Director and demonstrate practical skills as stated in this catalog under the heading: “Enrollment requirements”. The cost of evaluation is $85. Upon completion of the candidate’s evaluation the Program Director than decides on the specific training plan that puts the individual on the path to graduating from the Harmonious Pilates, Teacher Training Program. The cost of the program is determined at that time and agreed upon by both parties.

TEACHERS BIOGRAPHIES Joanna Telacka Joanna is the co-owner of Harmonious Pilates studio. She has been teaching Pilates since 1999. She received her
comprehensive Pilates training and earned her Master Program diploma in classical Pilates at The Pilates Center in
Boulder, Colorado. Joanna is also a PMA Certified Teacher.
In her efforts to actively participate in maintaining the highest standard of teaching, Joanna is a teacher’s teacher.
She has been the Program Director and the lead teacher of the Harmonious Pilates Comprehensive Teacher
Training Program for the past 16 years.
Ann Marino Ann has been teaching Pilates since 2004. Prior to becoming a classical Pilates teacher, Ann taught aerobics,
gymnastics and worked with children with learning disabilities.
Her Pilates education includes over 600 hours of apprenticeship, under the guidance of Bob Liekens at Power
Pilates in New York City, and a comprehensive certification through The New York Pilates Studio.
She has taught private sessions, duets and group classes at studios in Maine, New Jersey Shore and in New York
City. She joined the staff at Harmonious Pilates in January of 2016 and has been training teachers since.
Wojciech Telacki Wojciech is a licensed Physical Therapist and a classical Pilates teacher. He has been practicing physical therapy
since 2001 and teaching Pilates since 2002. He completed 900 hours of comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training
Program and received his diploma from Harmonious Pilates. His scope of work includes teaching Pilates and
practicing traditional methods of physical therapy. When appropriate, he combines physical therapy and Pilates to
ensure the best outcome for the patient. He has been a part of the instructional personnel of the Harmonious Pilates
Teacher Training Program since 2005.
