Teacher Workshop: Arts for Smarts Learn how to Involve your Classroom in the 2010 Hawaiʻi Nei Art Exhibition Saturday, February 6, 2010 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park A Part of the 2010 ‘Imi Pono no ka ‘Āina Workshop Series. Join the Three Mountain Alliance, the Volcano Art Center and the University of HawaiI’s PRISM Program for this exciDng day of creaDvity, blending the sciences with creaDve expression! This workshop features curriculum and acDviDes integraDng science, Hawaiian culture and art. Workshop is open to all educators. Featured Ac+vi+es Include: Explore the land and sea connec+ons found in the Kumulipo (Hawaiian Crea+on Chant). Inves+gate tradi+onal knowledge by learning Ōlelo Noeau which feature na+ve Hawaiian plants and animals. Interpret what you learn into your own ar+s+c masterpiece. Explore the ecosystems found in a watershed through a lesson designed by the U.H. Hilo PRISM Program which meets DOE standards. Learn how to make “kapa” with your students using paper bags. And of course, learn how to involve your class in the 2010 Hawaii Nei Juried Art ExhibiDon celebraDng naDve species!
