November is a time of leaves falling on the ground, pumpkin piescooking in the oven, and political signs littering the sides of roads. Many drive by and cant help but think of all the annoyances of thepolitics. So many of us ask, Why should I care? However, when youthink about it, as teachers, politics decide a great deal about our
future.
Things like budgets, programs, standardized testing and pay are alldecided through political actions. As teachers, we experience firsthand what does and doesnt work in our classrooms. Who better todecide what is mandated and practiced in schools than us?
It is not anyones place to tell a person what side one should take inpolitics and legal issues. It is however, a right and a responsibility asa teacher to look up the issues and decide how you can stand up foreducation and your career.
Are you interested in voicing your opinion and learning about politicswhen it comes to education? KEA members are taking action in theKentucky Educators Political Action Committee to influence theelections and policies that impact public education in Kentucky. To

Each year the Education University Experience class (EDU175) puts together a program incollaboration with the Kelly Autism Program to provide autistic children and their families a fun andappropriate environment to celebrate Fall. The Kelly Autism Fall Festival allows autistic students toenjoy games, crafts, foods and dancing with their friends, family and WKU students.
The WKU KEASP is invited each year to participate with the program by providing the food and asmiling face. This year was no different, with the help of Jennifer Hendi, Sarah Jessie and SaraHeath, KEA provided students with pizza, lemonade and enthusiasm that Thursday night. Of course,we cant forget Dr. Jukes and Dr. Huss with their families who joined us as well! All in all, the night
was successful for all parties involved. The students enjoyed themselves and KEA looks forward toparticipating in such a great event again next year. Thank you Ms. Fryman for the opportunity!
