The Riders of the Sidhe by John Duncan, 1911.

Celtic Faeries celebrate the feast of Belenus, the Celtic symbol of the Christ, carrying the Tree of Knowledge (Gnosis) and the Holy Grail, while displaying signs of spiritual mastery (the serpent and the ubiquitous halo, or crown chakra).

In the ancient schools of mystery of Greece, Egypt, Rome, India, Persia, Mexico, Peru, Assyria, Chaldea, etc., psychology has always been related to philosophy, to real objective art, to science and religion.

In ancient times psychology was cleverly hidden behind the graceful forms of sacred dancers or behind the enigma of strange hieroglyphs or beautiful sculpures, poetry or tragedy, and even behind the delicious music of temples.

Before science, philosophy, the arts and religion parted to live independent lives, psychology was the sovereign ruler of all the ancient schools of temples.

When the initiatic schools closed their doors due to arrival of the Kali Yuga or Dark Age in which we still live, psychology survived in the symbolism of several esoteric and pseudo-esoteric schools of the modern world, and especially in Gnostic esotericism. - Samael Aun Weor, Fundamental Education

sects, orders, etc. All religions are precious pearls strung on the golden thread of the divinity. Our Gnostic Movement is made up by people of all religions, schools, sects, spiritual societies, etc. In the Heart Temple there is place for all religions, for all forms of worship. Now in development, a collection of images which illustrate the wisdom of the Path toward the Self-realization of the Being.

For the last few thousand years, the Gnostic Wisdom has been hidden in various threads of humanity. There is much evidence of the Secret Knowledge on display in museums and art galleries around the world. In this area we will examine some striking examples of the subtle but unmistakable presence of the Christic Doctrine.

Daughter of Zeus and one of the great Olympians, Athena (Minerva) represents the Divine Mother as diety of war against all that is false. Born from the brow of her father, she embodies the Intelligence of God.

The serpent by her side is the Kundalini, the upright serpentine power (identical to the Bronze Serpent of Moses) which is awakened by her chaste servants. A pure virgin, Athena demands purity of her subjects, and abhors Fornication, an attribute represented in many of her myths.

A day can press down all human things, and a day can raise them up. But the gods embrace men of sense and abhor the evil. - Athena to Odysseus. Sophocles, Ajax 130

Gnosis - Practical Gnosticism - Athena, Goddess of War

Generally represented with armor, shield and spear, she is the divine intelligence who empowers the spiritual hero to conquer his own psychological Defects: Medusa, the hypnotic seductive power of the inverted serpent.

When Perseus was grown up

Polydectes sent him to attempt the conquest of Medusa, a terrible monster who had laid waste the country. She was once a beautiful maiden whose hair was her chief glory (long hair is a symbol of Chastity: she was once the pure Consciousness in chastity) but as she dared to vie in beauty with Minerva (Athena; here we see the birth of pride), the goddess deprived her of her charms and changed her beautiful ringlets into hissing serpents (Medusa became inverted: the lunar serpent, Eve, fell, creating the Klipoth).

She became a cruel monster of so frightful an aspect that no living thing could behold her without being turned into stone. All around the cavern where she dwelt might be seen the stony figures of men and animals which had chanced to catch a glimpse of her and had been petrified with the sight (upon seeing her tenebrous beauty, they become identified with Desire, which gives birth to the Ego, a heavy and rigid mental formation that traps the consciousness inside. This is the Brute Stone).

Perseus, favoured by Minerva (his Divine Mother Kundalini) and Mercury (Hermes, the Sexual Energy), the former of whom lent him her shield (Self-observation, Self-remembering, and Meditation) and the latter his winged shoes (Sexual Alchemy; the shoes we need to walk the path), approached Medusa while she slept (taking advantage of her mechanical nature) and taking care not to look directly at her (with the risk of becoming identified with desire), but guided by her image reflected in the bright shield (of the stabilized and clarified consciousness through profound stillness of the Mind in Shamata) which he bore (due to many patient years of practice), he cut off her head (the "I") and gave it to Minerva (Athena). - Bullfinch's Mythology

The Alchemist stands between the two forms of the Alchemical science: the Alchemy of Nature (left) and Mechanical Alchemy (right).

From the pursuit of Mechanical Alchemy (represented by the laboratory) there rises a building devoid of warmth or beauty. It is instead a sterile and cold environment. Even the oven is devoid of fire and life. This is Materialistic Science, the bastard child of the Alchemical tradition. This is our modern chemistry and all of its branches; this is the Alchemy of the intellectuals and scientists, the Alchemy of the five senses. From this pursuit there arises no spiritual life, therefore it is a dead art, an art that will never create the Soul.

From the pursuit of the Alchemy of Nature there rises a fantastic form

of life, entwined like a Caduceus of Mercury and topped by a Golden Blossom, within which sits the sacred Alchemical Vessel (top). The vessel contains the sacred Elixir, the fountain of youth. These are the "living Waters" given to the true initiate, as promised in the scriptures.

The Alchemy of Nature is a sacred science, a Tree which arises from the soil of the Philosophical Earth (a symbol of our physical body). This is the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Bad, as mentioned in the book of Genesis. This Tree is the symbol of Alchemy. It has three roots, symbolizing the three primary forces, the Trinity, the Law of Three, known in Gnosis as the Law of Creation. The work with this tree is performed consciously, with great sacrifice and effort, and always under divine guidance. The fruits of this tree must be earned through the process of alchemical purification.

The Alchemist gazes at the seated Angel, whose head is crowned with the signs of the seven Alchemical planets, the forces which organize the Great Work. The angel is draped with a blue cape with white stars, a reference to the Divine Mother. But the most important symbol in this painting is the fire at the base of the Tree: this fire, which is just below the sexual organs of the Angel, is the clue to the Alchemy of Nature: from the pure (Angelic) use of the sexual forces, there rises a new and magical form of life: the soul, the Second Birth. Obviously, this work can only be accomplished with a man and a woman, because only and man and a woman can join to create life. Everything in nature is born of sex; therefore the soul is also born of sex.

The Alchemist hides his hands in his purse as a symbol that the True Great Work is always performed in the darkness; because it is in the darkness of the womb that the Seed is germenated; from the darkness the Light arises. "Let there be Light."

A Brief Introduction to The Alchemical Citadel of Heinrich Kunrath, 1602.

In the midst of humanity there is a most precious treasure; knowledge that transforms the common individual into something beautiful and rare. But this knowledge is full of terrible power and the method it requires demands the best of a Human Being, thus they are rare who can take this knowledge and use it properly. Therefore this knowledge has been well-protected, and only those who are worthy have been allowed to see even the cloak that covers its secrets.

This engraving allegorizes the entrance into the True Universal Knowlege of Alchemy. Humanity wanders around the citadel, engaged in all the vain activities that we are identified with: money, power, distractions. We build cities and churches and feel ourselves to be good and wise and just. Yet there are some who seek to know more.

Twenty-one doors ring the circumference of the Citadel. This is a reference to the Arcanum Twenty-one of the Book of the Law: the Tarot. Arcanum Twenty-one is "Transmutation" or "The Fool," the one who lets himself fall into error. (The Twenty-first Arcanum has been confused with the Twenty-second, called "The Crown of Life," or "Return.") This reference illustrates that by far the majority of the doors we see as we seek the Path to Self-realization are in fact false.

greatest magic is transmuting the passions. The greatest generosity is non-attachment. The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind. The greatest patience is humility. The greatest effort is not concerned with results. The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go. The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances.”-Atisha

Gnosis - Practical Gnosticism - The Alchemical Citadel

Most people stand at the twenty false doors that surround the citadel. They do not enter. This is the common state of humanity; we look inside and we criticize what we see. We examine the teachings and we walk away. Very few have the courage to enter, to live what is taught, to define themselves. "So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:16)Yet, even those who dare to enter walk into a labrynth. These false doors open into a labrynth that only leads into deeper confusion. These twenty doors lead to all the theories, schools, teachings, books, ideas and concepts of men, the popular movements, the common and exoteric mysticism which never delivers true and experiential results or which lead into Black Magic and the enslavement of the soul. These twenty doors all claim to be the real entrance, and all take advantage of the naive.

Only one door is true (bottom center) and before it stand a man and a woman who follow a dog, the symbol of the instinctive sexual force.

Between the man and the woman is column upon a Cteis, the Lingam-Yoni of Masonry, and it is topped by a heart, the symbol of love. These are the requirements to enter the true door of the mysteries.

Upon entering this door, the couple will encounter a guardian who wields a

Caduceus of Mercury. This is the Guardian of the Threshold. The couple must conquer him to enter; and the only way to conquer him is to renounce everything that is false and of the Ego, the "I," and instead they must commit themselves to serve their own Innermost Being, the Intimate Spirit, the Father who is in secret. (Herein is a clue to many who are misled nowadays: there are schools that teach instead that one must serve the Guardian of the Threshold; what they do not teach is that this Guardian must be conquered. Thus the naive ones are led into black Magic. For more information see "The Revolution of Beelzebub" by Samael Aun Weor.)

Upon passing this ordeal, they will pass between the two columns of the temple, Jakin and Boaz, which are topped by the Sun and the Moon, alchemical symbols of the male and the female forces.

To go further the couple must have excellent psychological Equilibrium to cross over the sexual Waters; they must demonstrate that they can control the waters as Jesus did when he walk upon the Sea of Galilee. It is here that they may enter the Citadel itself.

The citadel has seven aspects, a symbol of the Seven Serpents, the seven colors, the seven vowels, the seven chakras, the seven notes of the lyre of Orpheus, the seven superior senses, etc.

The mountain is a symbol of the work we must do, as Moses ascended the mountain. The mountain rises out of the waters, within which are sitting the sun and the moon. The waters are the source of all life, and thus are the source of all spiritual birth. The direct knowledge of these waters, and how to work with them, constitute the fiercely protected secret of Alchemy. This knowledge is now revealed openly in the works of Samael Aun Weor.

At the base of the mountain is a repentant soul who begs forgiveness for his psychological Defects and sins, and who prays for help to change; he faces a burning Tree (the Kabbalah), as did Moses. He is admonished by two masters, who demand of him many works and proofs of his sincerity.

The mountain is topped by a great Dragon, the reflection of Christ, the guardian of the Phiilosopher Stone, and he will only deliver it unto the soul that accomplishes all of the required works and who has become cleaned of all impurity. This is the legedary Stone that delivers all Powers and immortality, gifts that can never be given to the impure soul.

"Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes (intellectuals) and Pharisees (those who knowingly or unknowingly keep themselves and others from entering into the True Work) you will never enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. You, therefore, must be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect." - Jesus of Nazareth, Matthew 5

Engraving by Theophilius Schweighart, Speculum sophicum Rhodostauroticum, 1604.

The light of the Consciousness (the flame of the lamp, top center) is born in us when chiseling the stone (sex; bottom center) with sapentia (wisdom; written on the column), thus transforming it into the central pillar or column (the Kundalini in the spine) of our interior temple, accomplished by means of the Sun (man) and the Moon (woman). Through this immaculately clean (chaste) mystical union (Sexual Alchemy), the initiates are born again of the womb of the Divine Mother (center).

The initiate comes to know his own true spiritual nature that is hidden in the scriptures when the he prays in sincere humility (the initiate on his knees, top center) and offers his hermetically-sealed vessel (the sexual organs) and his incense (transmutated energy) to his Innermost Father (YHVH, upon the top of the tent).

To acheive this the alchemist (lower left panel) must labor: he must come out of his own Waters (Fornication) and bathe himself (Sexual Magic, the tub behind him) and drink from the small vessel in his hand (Eucharist); thus he transmutes the waters of life that descend from heaven (the rain), which are the energies of the Holy Spirit (the bird floating on the waters).

This work is performed in secret (in the cave, lower right panel) using two vessels, united in harmony, with “gentle heat and much attention.” The scales symbolize perfect psychological Equilibrium. This is the great secret of Alchemy: the unification of Yah and Hava, the man and the woman, the Sun and the Moon, whose immaculate conjunction (Leviticus 15:16) gives birth to

the Philosophical Stone, the Inner Christ, the savior of mankind (center).

The entire structure of this work is triangular, indicating the Supernal Triangle of the Kabbalah, the Cosmic Christ. The equilibriated expression of the three points is in the center: the creation of the Christ in the Initiate. This is the Mystery of Daath, the hidden sphere of the Kabbalah.

The Human Soul of the Initiate (center) stands before Anubis, the great Judge of the Law of Karma, who weighs the heart (in the jar) against a feather (Mind) to measure psychological Equilibrium: the fundamental requirement of true spiritual development. This also weighs karma and Dharma, bad and good actions.

Behind the Initiate is his KA, the Astral Body (bird with a human head). It is on the side of the jar containing the heart, which indicates the close relationship between emotion and the Astral Body.

The Divine Father (Chesed) and Divine Mother of the Initiate wait on the far left. They always bow before the will of the Law.

Above are the forty-two judges of the Law.

On the far right is Thoth, the Causal Logos of the Initiate, who records the judgment and waits to see if the Initiate is to be consumed by the Demon Ammit with the face of a crocodile.

The Caduceus

Written by Website Administrator There are many representations of the Caduceus from cultures around the world and throughout history. How is it that we cannot see the evidence that this presents: there is a form of knowledge that is universal and which has been known by cultures who (so far as we know) never exchanged ideas in the physical world; where then does such knowledge arise, and how can we explain it?

Assyrian 2350 - 2150 B.C.

The wisdom which illuminates all the world's mystical traditions springs from one source: we call this Gnosis, which means "knowledge." This is not merely a theory or belief, this is experiential knowledge. The knowledge derived from Intimate spiritual experience, if it is genuine, should correspond to a universal truth. It is in this way that we can understand the ubiquity of the Caduceus: it is a form which corresponds

Aztec Caduceus

Regarding the symbol of the caduceus, Samael Aun Weor wrote:

We know that the shape of the spinal medulla is very special. If we observe the sign of the infinite (the holy eight placed horizontally) we then see two parts that are reunited in the center.

Let us suppose beloved reader that you gather many horizontal eights and stack them up one on top of the other at their base then all of these horizontal eights will give you the shape of the spinal medulla.

Ancient wisdom teaches that there exists a pair of sympathetic nervous cords that in the form of a holy eight are entwined around the spinal medulla.

Tantra, the body's vital energies are the vehicles of the mind. When the vital energies are pure and subtle, one's state of mind will be accordingly affected. By transforming these bodily energies we transform the state of consciousness.”-The 14th Dalai Lama

Hindu Caduceus

Many pseudo-Esoteric and pseudo-occultist authors mistakenly suppose that such cords depart from the coccygeal region. However, Sivananda in his book Kundalini Yoga goes further is this matter; he affirms that these cords have their origin in the very sexual organs.

The root of such cords must be found within the testicles of the male and the ovaries of the female.

The left side is Ida and the right side is Pingala. The profound canal that runs within the spinal medulla is Shushumna. - Samael Aun Weor, The Doomed Aryan Race

The Cross

Written by Website Administrator

The Universal Cosmic Drama as seen in Christian art (c. 1350) and Aztec art (c. 1500).

In both images the Virgin Mother lies upon her back and from her womb is born the Tree of Life. Atop the tree is the pelican (left) medieval symbol of the Christ, and the Quetzal (right) the Aztec symbol of the Christ (Quetzalcoatl). The tree in both images is born of the blood of supreme sacrifice; on the left, this blood flows from the wounds of crucifixion, and on the right from the phallus of Quetzalcoatl and his twin brother. In Christian symbolism Jesus was crucified at Calvary (latin for "skull") or Golgotha (Aramaic for "skull") while the Aztec mother goddess is related to a place called "Skull." For more information, refer to Aztec Christic Magic by Samael Aun Weor.

Figuarum Aegyptiorum Secretarum, 18th century.

The Holy Grail, symbol of the feminine sexual organs, contains the Waters of life (Sexual Energy). Standing upon this water are the man and the woman, who use their staves (the Kundalini) to control the waters. The waters must be kept smooth and calm and absolutely pure, free from any defect or disturbance, for not a drop must be spilled.

From the tranquil and crystalline waters rises a column of stone, a symbol of the spinal column. The waters are the Foundation, which is Hebrew is Yesod, the Ninth Sephirah of the Kabbalah, and related directly to the sexual organs.

Upon the column are entwined the two serpents of the Caduceus, Ida and Pingala, known in Christianity as Adam and Eve.

Atop the column, supported by the work of the man and woman below, is the Innermost Spirit, our own Inner Divine Father and Mother, the Being. Unto the Innermost is given all glory and power, thus as the man and woman work to perfect themselves, the Innermost is given Initiations, Powers, titles, grades, etc. This is why the Innermost is crowned and carries the Magic Wand and the Caduceus.

Surrounding all of this are Elohim who rule over the planets, whose force and influence direct and guide the couple in their Alchemical Work. All of the Gods carry within the force of the Cosmic Christ, whose symbol is the Sun; that is why all the wands, staves and sexual organs are covered by the Sun.

Mutus Liber, 1677.

The final plate of the wordless alchemical treatise “Mutus Liber” (Mute Book) representing the goal of Alchemy: reunion with the Divine Spirit. Heracles (the prone figure at bottom) incarnates in the initiate who enters the Straight Path and subsequently receives the Venustic Initiation, the entrance of the Universal Cosmic Christ into the human being. The Christ, inside the Human Soul, must labor and sacrifice. Here he is shown psychologically dead (no Ego at all) after completing his work. The result is the Perfected Stone, the square formed by the union of the man and woman and the Father above. The man and woman have achieved equilibruim (the Sun and Moon have switched places between them). From their mouths come the words Oculatis Abis: “Thou departest seeing.” The work is finished: the ladder to Heaven (in the back) is set aside. The Father receives His Glory in Heaven as He crowned by the Cherubim and is illuminated by the light of the Christ (the Sun), with whom He is now One. On either side of the image are the two olive branches tied

Quote of the Moment

“All worldly pursuits have but one unavoidable and inevitable end, which is sorrow; acquisitions end in dispersion; buildings in destruction; meetings in separation; births in death. Knowing this, one should, from the very first, renounce acquisitions and storing-up, and building, and meeting; and, faithful to the commands of an eminent Guru, set about realizing the Truth. That alone is the best of religious observances.”-Milarepa

by Abraham Eleazer, Ultraltes chymisches Werk, 1760

"The Sacred Fire activates the seven magnetic centers. The Kundalini coordinates the activity of all seven chakras in a marvelous manner. We could illustrate all of this by a stalk with seven fragrant and beautiful roses. The stalk would represent the spinal column, and the seven roses would represent the seven chakras, or magnetic centers. The delicate stems of these seven roses of ardent fire are the fine threads which unite them to the spinal column." - The Perfect Matrimony

The accomplishment of the work is only possible by combining two sevens: the two rows of seven trees each. Each row represents the seven bodies of the man and the woman. The two sevens (man and woman) combine to make fourteen, the sacred Arcanum of Temperance, the mixing of the two elixirs.

By working in the earth (the farmers at bottom center) we acquire the hidden stone.

The instructor (bottom right) indicates that in order to follow in his example and cross the stream, reaching the other shore, the student must have balance in all things; we need to have our psyche in Equilibrium to receive the sacred fire, and illuminate our seven igneous

The three streams also indicate the three nervous systems, and how their energy is dervied from the same source as the energy which illuminates the Tree of Life and the chakras: that source is the sexual organs.

Le Triomphe Hermetique, from Collectanea chymica by C.L. Morley and T. Muykens, 1693

The text at the bottom reads, “In the cavern of hidden metals is the venerable stone. Hermes.”

The Fires of the earth (the sexual fire) heats the vessel, the Grail, within which is placed the energy of the Sun (the male) and the Moon (the female).

With heat and pressure there arises the Staff of the Master, upon which are entwined the arisen serpents of Adam (Pingala) and Eve (Ida).

This work is crowned by the Sulphur (the cross and triangle, within which is the Phoenix Bird), and by the triple crown of the Kabbalah: the Cosmic Christ.
