Salary sacrifice is a clever way of saving money on bigger purchases. Schemes generally cover things like technology, bikes, childcare and gyms. They’re the kind of things that improve your employees’ overall quality of life. Employees spread the cost of the purchase over a long period, such as twelve months. They make payments every month, which are taken from their salaries before payday. Because their pay is now technically lower, they pay less tax and National Insurance. Your business pays less National Insurance too, since you’re paying out less in salaries.

Let’s go through an example: say an employee wants to buy a new bike. They’ll apply through one of our schemes and we’ll set up a payment plan with your business. We’ll take payments every month and you’ll recoup those from your employee’s paycheque.

Why do you think it’s important to reward staff, and how do you think it will make a difference in company culture?

For us at Hungryhouse, the culture of the business is at the core of everything we do and is constantly evolving. Culture is one of those things that cannot be changed overnight but any element of reward that we put in place is done solely to make our teams happy and therefore has a positive effect on that evolution. Customer engagement is top of our list of priorities. In order to create happy and engaged customers we need a happy and engaged workforce, Perkbox offers us a way of saying thanks to our team for continuing to do a great job and continuing to positively influence our culture.

People are the most important asset to our business. If we go out of our way to look after our people, they will go out of their way to look after the company. Happy people are so much nicer to work with too.... No one wants to work with a bunch of miserable people all day, do they? I once read somewhere that 30% of one’s life is spent at work. It is my mission to make sure that that 30% is just as fun and memorable as the remaining 70%.
