TeamSpeak This guide will cover the installation and setup of TeamSpeak for use with

WJ-Virtual.

WJ Virtual (WJA) has a TeamSpeak 3 (TS3) server that is free for all WJA pilots to use. The TS3 server may be used by pilots at any time as a way to communicate with fellow pilots while flying on flight simulator or just to have a nice friendly conversation with like-minded people. If using TS3 please keep all conversations civilised and appropriate, do not harass or insult another member, do not post links to inappropriate or illegal websites, do not give out the TS3 server details to non-WJA pilots, and follow all WJA rules and guidelines that are outlined in the Pilot Operating Handbook and Terms of Service that are available.

Download:

First you will need to download the TS3 client which can be found here. Select the version that is available for your operating system and click "Download", next yo u will need to read their EULA and check "I Agree" before continuing, the next screen will show the option to participate in a quick survey on how you found out about TS3, this is strictly optional and can be skipped. The next screen should be your actual download and in a few seconds you should have a small window appear asking you to save the TS3 client to a location of your choice, simply pick a convenient location on your PC and click "Save" to begin your download.

Installation:

Once the TS3 client has been downloaded go to the folder that you saved it to and double click the TS3 installation file. Once it is started you should see the TS3 installation clients welcome screen, just click "Next" to proceed.

The next screen will again be the EULA; it is always a good idea to read through this before clicking "I Agree" and continuing with the installation.

After agreeing to the EULA and continuing to the next page you will have the option to install the TS3 software for just yourself or for anyone that uses your PC. If you have multiple profiles on your PC because it is also used by someone other than yourself, such as other family members, you can install TS3 on all profiles by choosing "Install for anyone using this computer", if you only wan t to install the client for yourself, or you are the only one that uses the computer you can choose "Install just for me" and then click "Next".

The next screen will ask you where you would like to install TS3, you can leave this as the default location or you can choose to install it into a location of your choice. Once you have the location that it will be installed into, click "Next" again.

Next you will be asked where you would like to save the TS3 configuration, pick the option you prefer and click "Next" again.

The next page will ask if you would like to create a shortcut folder in your start menu, if you would like to create the shortcut folder simply leave this screen as is, if you do not want to create a shortcut folder check the box that says "Do not create shortcuts".

Next click "Install" and the TS3 client will finally begin the installation process. After the installation is finished just click "Close" to finish the process and close the installer.

Setup:

Now that you have TS3 installed you can start the client and set it up for use with the WJA server. Double click the TeamSpeak 3 Client icon on your desktop and the TS3 client should launch and you should see a blank opening screen.

To connect to the WJA server go to the top bar where it says "Connections" and click "Connect", you can also use the shortcut Ctrl+S. The screen that pops up next is where you will need to put in the WJA TS3 server address, the server password, and your nickname.

Your nickname should be your WJA ID (WJA1234) along with your first and last name, the same way it appears on the forums. Once you have the server address, server password and your nickname you can click "Connect" and should be connected to the WJA TS3 server.

Once you are connected it is a good idea to calibrate your headset or speakers and microphone to make sure that you can comfortably hear everyone, and everyone else can comfortably hear you. To do this go to "Settings" and then "Options", in the "Options" menu on the left there should be several tabs that allow you to adjust your TS3 settings. Under the "Playback" tab you will be able to adjust your speaker settings.

Under the "Capture" tab you will be able to adjust your microphone settings. If you click "Begin Test" you will be able to talk and hear yourself so that you can hear and adjust the volume level of your microphone, as long as it stays in the green when you talk it should be good to go.

You also have the option of choose when your microphone is active. You can either set it to "Push to Talk" meaning you will need to set a "Hotkey" that must be pushed while you are talking for the sound to be picked up by your microphone. "Continuous Transmission" which means your microphone will always be active whether you are talking or not, and "Voice Activation Detection" which means TS3 will try and detect whenever you are speaking and automatically activate your microphone so that you can be heard. Generally it is best to use a hotkey as that will prevent you from being heard when you might not want to be and it will also prevent others from constantly hearing background noise like family, pets, TV and radio. Voice Activation Detection may also work but sometimes this can be fooled by background noise and once in a while your microphone may be activated when you don't want it to. If you decide to use a hotkey you can click on the "Hotkey" tab and select which key you would like to use to activate your microphone. If using a hotkey, make sure it is a key that is not used by flight simulator or another program; you don't want to hit the key to speak and suddenly open a door or shut off an engine on your aircraft, or affect another program that might be running on your computer. If you want to change the hotkey that is used you can double click on it or right click and choose "Edit Hotkey" to choose one of your own.

WJA would like to encourage the use of TeamSpeak and WJACARS chat since talking to your fellow pilots can be a great way to pass the time during those longer flights, it can also be a great way for you to get to know your fellow pilots better! There is no reason to be shy about joining the TS3 server and speaking to other WJA members and it could be a good way to get over any "mic shyness" if you ever plan to try out vatsim or any other online flying. The TS3 server may alsobe used to seek out help or training if requested, sometimes it is easier to figure something out if you can speak to someone in real time rather than try to follow text instructions.
