STRAIGHTFORWARD COMMUNICATION

Modules can be used either as a standalone module or controlled by an external computer or microprocessor through a variety of communication interfaces using Tecan Cavro’s industry standard OEM command set. Communication is via RS-232, RS-485 or CAN interfaces, with multi-pump arrangements using a single communication bus. Each pump also provides auxiliary inputs and outputs for TTL level signals that can be used for synchronization with external devices, further increasing integration flexibility.

AIR DISPLACEMENT PIPETTOR• CAVRO AIR DISPLACEMENT PIPETTOR (ADP) The Cavro ADP is one of the smallest and most sophisticated air pipettors on the market,

combining advanced pipetting functionality and process intelligence within a single unit. This compact pipetting module is ideal for applications that use disposable tips to prevent carry-over or contamination, such as molecular diagnostics and cell cultures. It offers high performance liquid handling with improved process security, simplifying workflows and reducing integration requirements. An encapsulated pump streamlines the pipetting workflow by eliminating the need for priming, washing and cleaning step, reducing the hardware requirements (tubing, bottles and system liquid reservoirs) and simplifying maintenance. The ADP can be easily integrated into compact instruments, with a slim profile to allow 18 mm tip-to-tip spacing for microplate-based applications in diagnostics, genomics and immunochemistry.

perfect fit for microfluidic, chromatography, flow cytometry and surface plasmon resonance instruments that require smooth liquid flow with very low pulsation. It is also ideal for low volume pipetting applications to support assay miniaturization.

• CAVRO XCALIBUR (XC) The Cavro XC pump delivers high precision and accuracy, with a compact design to ensure it

fits into small footprint instruments. It is popular with manufacturers of high quality desktop systems – such as DNA sequencers, sample preparation instruments and cell-based assay platforms. This syringe pump is also particularly well suited to closed tube sampling, offering precise aspiration against a positive pressure or vacuum – for example, in septum-capped blood collection tubes. Customers chose the XC for its ease of integration and of ability to switch between source fluids.

• CAVRO XLP The positive displacement XLP pump is a reliable workhorse for applications that require

high performance liquid handling over a broad volume range. The low volume range – as low as 50 µl per stroke – is ideal for tissue or cell staining, allowing easy transfer of samples and reagents to slides. In contrast, the 25 or 50 ml high volume syringe options are a good choice for LC-MS sample preparation workflows. The preferred replacement for Cavro XL pumps, it offers the largest selection of valves in the Cavro range, making it well suited to applications requiring multiple source fluids or sample injection against a positive pressure. As a result, the XLP is often used for sample preparation in flow cytometry or chromatography, as well as microfluidics applications.

• CAVRO XMP The Cavro XMP offers flexible multi-channel pipetting with similar benefits to the popular

Cavro XLP pump. With a choice of 2- to 8- channel configurations to match your instrument needs, it is designed for rapid, high performance parallel pipetting, and is ideally suited to flow cell applications, such as flow cytometry and sequencing. To maximize throughput, multiple XMP pumps can be used in parallel to perform independent tasks and optimize workflow efficiency.

• CAVRO XE The Cavro XE syringe pump provides affordable entry level pipetting performance and basic

liquid handling functions for chemistry analyzers, environmental science equipment and histology instrumentation. Its small size also ensures straightforward compact detection devices, such as plate readers and immunoassay sample preparation systems.

A COMPACT, PNEUMATIC PIPETTING SOLUTION

The Cavro Air Displacement Pipettor (ADP) is a fully programmable pneumatic pipetting module designed for integration into instruments where space is at a premium. Ideal for applications requiring disposable tips, its slender, maintenance-free design and advanced process security features provide easy integration and reliable performance.

Using air rather than liquid displacement to aspirate and dispense fluids, the Cavro ADP is factory calibrated to provide excellent accuracy and reproducibility – comparable to advanced manual pipettors – using a range of disposable tip sizes. The pipetting mechanism features onboard pressure-based liquid level detection (pLLD) and real-time diagnostics to monitor correct operation, with tip sensor and tip ejector mechanisms to support process security requirements.

The Cavro Centris Pump is a compact, high performance and reliable syringe pump with a large dynamic range. Using an elegant drive mechanism and optional long-life ceramic components, its virtually maintenance-free design delivers market leading precision and accuracy, with a broader working volume range from a single syringe size than similar OEM pumps, enabling you to do more with one pump than ever before.

The motor drive electronics are optimized for whisper quiet and smooth operation, with programmable flow rates from 5 ml/s to under 1 nl/s. This is combined with advanced on-board diagnostics – mechanical force measurements, step loss detection verification, operational tests, safety monitors, move counters and command and error logs – ensuring excellent liquid handling performance, even at small volumes. Depending on the needs of your application, you can select from a broad range of ceramic or plastic valves and ceramic or glass syringes.

LOW PROFILE, HIGH PERFORMANCE

The Cavro XCalibur (XC) Pump is a high performance, compact OEM syringe pump with multiple valve options to simplify fluidic system design and integration. It offers automated pipetting, diluting and dispensing – with excellent accuracy and precision – from <5 µl to 5 ml, using a variety of syringes.

Its compact, stepper motor-driven ball-screw has a travel length of 30 mm, with pump speeds ranging from 1.2 seconds to 20 minutes and a resolution of 3,000 increments per stroke in standard mode (24,000 increments in microstepping mode). The drive does not require lubrication and can be manually lowered for easy syringe replacement, while valve and plunger move counters help to plan preventive maintenance operations.

The Cavro XLP Pump has been developed with a wide range of precision liquid handling applications in mind, offering more than twenty configurations to match your instrument needs. Its robust design ensures a long life and low maintenance requirements, helping to provide reliable liquid handling performance and, ultimately, leading to greater customer satisfaction.

This versatile 60 mm stroke OEM syringe pump is available with a range of syringe sizes – allowing dispensing from <5 µl to 50 ml – and a choice of valve configurations and materials to match specific application and chemical compatibility requirements. Offering pump speeds ranging from 1.2 seconds to 160 minutes per stroke, it incorporates an optical encoder for step loss detection. Process security is further enhanced by valve and plunger move counters to help plan preventive maintenance replacement of valves and syringes.

THE ECONOMICAL SOLUTION FOR PARALLEL PIPETTING

The Cavro XMP 6000 Pump is our multi-channel OEM syringe pump for liquid handling applications in the 10 µl to 5 ml range. The unit is available in 2-, 4-, 6- and 8-channel configurations, and is ideal for multi-probe liquid handling tasks such as sample transfers, dilutions, mixing, reagent additions and plate reformatting.

Minimizing logistical restrictions in your instrument design, this compact 60 mm stroke unit is offered with either standard inlet/outlet valve configurations or a bypass valve option allowing rapid flushing, charging and priming of the system. It uses a stepper motor-driven, PTFE-coated leadscrew which does not require lubrication, ensuring a long life and low maintenance requirements. Pump speeds ranges from 1.2 seconds to 160 minutes per stroke, with step loss detection to ensure process security, and valve and plunger move counters to help plan preventive maintenance.

TECAN CAVRO VALVES

A wide assortment of Tecan Cavro valves helps you to configure each pumping system to meet your needs. These space-efficient valves are designed for easy access and minimal pumping action.

Standard rotary valves are made of PTFE and PCTFE but, if your applications require longer life or specific chemical compatibility, Tecan also offers ceramic, PEEK™, PPS and UHMWPE valves. Solenoid valves are also available for the Cavro XMP 6000 multi-channel pump.

VALVE TYPES

TECAN CAVRO SYRINGES

Tecan offers a full range of glass and ceramic syringes specifically designed for Tecan Cavro syringe pumps, helping to ensure the superior performance that our customers have relied on for many years.

Standard syringes have a precision manufactured glass barrel and stainless steel plunger rod, allowing accurate volume control. A wide range of sizes are available for each pump, with either PTFE or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) plunger seals, offering excellent chemical resistance. UHMWPE seals also provide extended service life for some applications, ensuring reliable performance and reducing maintenance requirements. Centris pumps are also available with precision-paired ceramic syringes which ensure minimal resistance or wear – and do not require a compliant O-ring seal on the plunger/barrel or an unswept dead volume – further reducing downtime and maintenance.

A range of accessories is also available to complement Tecan Cavro syringes, including:• Lubrication kits to increase the working life of plunger seals• Plunger seal replacement kits to extend syringe life
