Technical Bulletin # 1431ZF5HP24Forward Engagement ComplaintsJaguar, BMWMarch, 2012

ZF5HP24Forward Engagement ComplaintsTrans has no forward or slips in all forward ranges. May engage into 5th gear/failsafe and set codes. These engagement conditions are often caused by “A” clutch drum failure (forward clutch) which is used in 1st through 4th gear. Cracks in the upper valve body section will also cause engagement con-cerns.

Drum failure is caused by high line pressure from pressure regulator bore wear. If the drum is blown out or if there are any signs of regulator bore wear replace valve body. New bare valve body sections are available from ZF.

Technical Bulletin # 1432BAYA/MAYA/BYBA/BGRA/B7WA/M7WA/BDGABind Up on the 1-2 Shi Accord, Oddysey and TLMarch, 2012

BAYA/MAYA/BYBA/BGRA/B7WABind Up on the 1-2 ShiftTransmission binds or drags down on the 1-2 shift. The ECM recognizes this and sets a gear ratio error code. The code puts the trans into fail safe 4th gear, the trans binds again because it is now in 1st and 4th gear simultaneously. When the ignition is cycled, the car will resume movement and repeat the bind up cycle over again. The trans will also bind up in the manual 2nd position.

The 1st hold clutch is applied for coast braking in manual/select 1st gear only. If the 1st hold clutch has no clearance, or is applied in any range other than 1st gear, the 1st gear sprag will not free wheel and will bind the trans. The 1st hold clutch frictions must be FREE-OFF in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears.

MP • Page 1 of 1

Assembly:Install 3 steels and 3 frictions as shown, install pressure plate and push down on it. With a scribe make sure the low hold plates turn freely. After final assembly of drum, air check on shaft. 1st hold plates must be free when 1st clutch is applied.

Technical Bulletin # 1433RE5R05AConnector Mismatch/Blown Fuse2004 & Later Nissan/Infi ni March, 2012

RE5R05AConnector Mismatch/Blown FuseA 2004 and later Nissan or Infiniti vehicle equipped with a RE5R05A transmission and the type 2 elec-tronic system. The voltage supply fuse is blown during start up and the transmission is stuck in limp mode after rebuild.

This can be cause by a connector mismatch during rebuild. The grey connector from the main harness may be swapped with the grey connector for the park/neutral position sensor. The voltage supply to the TCM located on the valve body will be shorted to ground and blow the fuse. This mistake will not cause any damage to the TCM.

Toyota/ScionECM Reset Memory FunctionWhenever an automatic transmission is replaced, overhauled or individual components are replaced, use this procedure to clear Engine Conrol Module (ECM, SAE term: Powertrain Control Module, PCM) “Learned Values” to minimize subsequent performance concerns.

CAUTION: Failure to follow the procedure below may lengthen the time to readjust the ECM “Learned Values” potentially resulting in performance concerns.

Applicable Vehicles Refer to Reset Procedure 1 for the following vehicles with Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmissions:

Technical Bulletin # 143562TECompounder Ra o Error, Missing Ranges and Gear Ra o Error DTC’sDodge & ChryslerMarch, 2012

62TECompounder Ratio Error, Missing RangesIn 2007 Dodge started fitting Caravans and Pacificas with a 4.0L engine and the 62TE transaxle. One of the common complaints we are seeing with this trans is a DTC P0792. This is a compounder ratio error, other ratio codes may also be present. The vehicle may come in with this condition or it may show up after a repair. Avoid surprises, always scan for codes before removing trans!

The 62TE is a 6 speed unit based on the 41TE. One of the major differences is an additional gear set, 2 clutch packs and a sprag assembly. Chrysler refers to these components as a compounder. This gear set is used to provide under drive or direct mode. The additonal gear set provides a broader gear ratio range. A third speed sensor has been added to monitor slippage in the compounder sec-tion. The compounder components are mounted on the transfer/pinion shaft.

Technical Bulle n #1435The compounder low clutch housing serves as the direct clutch drum sealing ring support. The direct clutch sealing rings are teflon, the housing is aluminum. The mix of teflon rings and aluminum sup-port has not proven to be a reliable combination. The rings grooves are wearing out causing leaks in the direct clutch circuit resulting in the ratio DTC’s and missing gears. Inspect the ring grooves care-fully when working on this unit.

Inspect CloselyThe ring grooves may look okay at first glance
