Technical Ceramics for Investment Casting

Magma Ceramics & Catalysts is a specialist manufacturer of high quality, precision cast refractory ceramic componentsFormed in February 2010, following a management buyout of Dyson Precision Ceramics, Magma Ceramics & Catalysts has become a major manufacturer and supplier of technical refractory ceramics to a wide variety of industries and market sectors. These include: Glass, Superalloys, Steel making, Non-ferrous metals and many other applications requiring high temperature refractories.

We currently operate four global manufacturing plants from our head office based in Dewsbury, UK:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Hai Guong, Vietnam

Dewsbury, UK

Bromborough, UK

Key to Magma’s success has been the drive and implementation of principles such as Lean Manufacturing and Just In Time manufacturing. Applying these techniques has enabled Magma to focus on customer’s requirements and challenges. Combining these concepts together with our ISO accreditations has enabled Magma to drive down lead times and lower costs. This in turn has encouraged a continuous drive towards process improvement meaning that Magma can offer our customers a flexible approach to lead times whilst achieving the same standards of high quality.

Magma is a leading supplier of crucibles, ladles and spouts to the Investment Casting industry with over 20 years’ experience within this sector.

CruciblesMagma’s crucibles are designed to give excellent corrosion and erosion resistance, good thermal shock resistance and a consistent performance in terms of reducing cast inclusions whilst maximizing productivity.

With better spalling resistance than most conventional materials our crucibles offer a cost benefit both in terms of process and product. Crucibles range in melting capacity from 0.5kg to 3000Kg

Ladles and SpoutsMagma’s Ladles and Spouts are manufactured from the same pre-fired materials as our crucibles, thereby reducing inclusions compared to rammed

ladles and hand formed spouts. Ladle liners are available in a variety of sizes and spout configurations, as well as open top and t-pot designs. Choose from our current size list or contact us for a custom size. Preformed spouts provide a clean consistent metal pour from campaign to campaign and are custom made to your trough shape and furnace dimensions. With Magma’s crucibles and ladles you can expect:• Clean melts• Consistent performance• Excellent thermal shock

resistance• Materials including; High

purity Alumina, Zirconia, Magnesia, Fused Silica, Sillimanite, Chrome-Alumina.

• Durability and long life• A large range of crucible sizes• Custom shape capabilities

from our in-house mould shop• Foundry visits to understand

your requirements

Selection and UseSelecting the correct crucible for melting ferrous/non-ferrous alloys is often viewed as an insignificant decision when in reality, considerable effort should be given to this important choice. Crucible performance can have dramatic effects on foundry costs and the competitive ability of the shop. The melting crucible can affect the overall quality of the castings directly through scrap rates and it can also affect a shop’s labour costs resulting from frequently changed crucibles. There are many variables that influence crucible performance. Please contact Magma’s technical sales staff for advice in choosing the right product for your application.
