●SFC clamping system

Insert pop-uppreventive mechanism

The SFC insert is“wedge-shaped”and fixed with awedge part to physicallyprevent its centrifugal pop-up.

Multi-insert designHigh-efficiency machining, and reduced running cost.

Blended insertsThe inserts are recovered and recycled by NTK for envi-ronmental preservation.Recycled inserts, having the brand-new insert performance, areoffered at reasonable prices. (The only difference between the recy-cled inserts and the brand-new inserts is the cutting edge length.)

Preset-freeThe fixed SFC can be renewed only by replacing theinsert (Cutter deflection: Max. 25袙).※The adjustable SFC allows the adjustment of its cutterdeflection to 5袙 or less.

Large-sized PCDThe large brazing area ensures high brazing strength. Thisseries can be used even for high-gate machining with security.

Light-weightMaterial change of the HPC body from steel to alu-minum.

Insert sharingThe HPC series inserts can be used as they are.

Spindle loadReduced load on the spindle unit due to light-weight alu-minum body.

●HPC clamping system

Insert pop-uppreventive mechanism

The HPC insert is pro-tected from centrifugalpop-up by combining thebody with a insert-clamp-ing screw and a cartridge.

Wide range of lineupRanging from φ20 to φ100. For φ40 through φ100,the same inserts can be commonly used.

Preset-freeThe fixed HPC can be renewed only by replacing the insert.※The adjustable HPC allows the adjustment of its cut-ter deflection to 5袙 or less.

High rigidityHigh-reliability due to steel cutter body.

Please return all used inserts to NTK. Then, as toeach used insert, NTK will remove the PCD, put acopper plate between the insert and the PCD, applyre-brazing, and adjust the overall length and width tothose of brand-new inserts. The used insert is also treated as if it were a brand-new insert. There is no need to distinguish betweenthe brand-new insert and the recycled insert.NTK does not distinguish between the brand-newinsert and the recycled insert. Therefore, pleaseunderstand that brand-new inserts and recycledinserts may be mingled in deliveries to you. The brand-new inserts and the recycled inserts can beused in the mixed state, since there is no differencebetween them but for the cutting edge length.Incidentally, employing this management systemaffords us to offer you our inserts at reasonable prices.

About SFC Series Fixed TypeThe fixed type can be used only by changing the inserts.

You do not need to adjust the cutting edges!

(All what you need is to remove / attach the inserts by loosening / fastening the insert clamping screw.)

【PRECAUTIONS】The holes of the axial setscrew and balance adjusting screw are embed-ded with special materials to prevent the insertion of any screwdrivers orhexagonal Allen wrenches.※The color of the embedded materials may not be the same as that of the actual parts.

SFC Series Insert Presetting Procedures■Please be sure to clean all chip pockets and then conduct the following steps.

●Step 1: Temporary fasteningAttach the insert, and temporarily fasten the wedge by turning the wedge clampingscrew at 1 N・m.

●Step 2: Cutter deflection adjustment (Rough adjustment)Set the cutting edge height to be lower than that specified on the drawing by0.1mm by turning the axial adjusting screw.

●Step 3: Full fasteningFully fasten the wedge at 4N・m.

●Step 4: Cutter deflection adjustment (Finishing)As finishing adjustment, adjust the cutting edge height of all inserts to be lower thanthat specified on the drawing by 0.05mm by turning the axial adjusting screw.

■PRECAUTIONS※To set the inserts of SFC Series fixed type, all what it takes to do is to fasten each wedge clamping screw at 4N・m with the

About HPC and ALC Series Fixed TypeThe fixed type can be used only by changing the inserts.

You do not need to adjust the cutting edges!

(All what you need is to remove / attach the inserts by loosening / fastening the insert clamping screw.)

【PRECAUTIONS】The holes of the cartridge clamping screw, axial setscrew and balanceadjusting screw are embedded with special materials to prevent the insertionof any screwdrivers or hexagonal Allen wrenches.※The color of the embedded materials may not be the same as that of the actual parts.

Insert Resetting and PCD Chipping Preventive Measures for HPC and ALC Series■Please be sure to clean all chip pockets and then conduct the following steps.

●Step 1: Chipping preventive measuresAffix a piece of adhesive cellophane tape (preferably less adhesive mendingtape) to the (flat) end of the dial gauge stylus. (There is no need to fold back thetape surplus.)

●Step 2: Insert mountingFor HPC and ALC Series, mount the cartridge on the body first and then mountthe insert on the cartridge by fastening the insert clamping screw.[If the insert is mounted on the cartridge first, the cartridge cannot be mountedon the body.]

●Step 3: Temporary fastening (Use a torque wrench.)Fasten ① and then ③ at 4N・m. For HPC and ALC Series, omit ③, which isnot available to these series.

●Step 4: SettingWhile watching the dial gauge, raise the insert with the highest cutting edge of all tem-porarily fastened inserts by turning ② by +0.03mm. Then, referring to this cutting edge, set the cutting edge of the other inserts to be within ±5μm (10μm in range) in disper-sion.

●Step 5Detach the stylus from the dial gauge.

●Step 6: Full fastening (Use a torque wrench.)For HSC Series, fasten ① at 10N・m and then ③ at 6 N・m. For HCL and ALC Series, fasten ① at 8N・m (③ not available to these series).

■Supplement1. Cutter deflection can be controlled to approx. ±10μm (20μm in range) even after full fastening.

2. This much deflection has no effects on the tool life or surface roughness as to NTK Standard Inserts (not applicable to all

inserts. For details, please refer to the below description(※)) and NTK Reground Insert.※For HSC Series, if ZT8489R or ZT8490R is used for machining that is requested to achieve surface roughness as high as

About the Handling of Carbide Tool Products蔗.Before using carbide tool products

Under the Product Liability (PL) Law took effect on July 1, 1995, we have in place the sticking of warning and caution labels to the packaging materials of all target products. However, we do not have the indication of specific warnings and cautions on the tool bodies themselves. Before handling all carbide tool products and materials, please besure to read through this brochure. As a part of your safety education, please have the contents of this brochure known well to all your workers.

蔘.Basic characteristics of the carbide tool materials蔘-蔗.Terminology in this brochure - Meanings and usage

Carbide tool materials :Generic term of tool materials, such as cemented carbide alloys, cermet, ceramic, CBN sintered body and diamond sintered bodyCarbide alloys :Abbreviation of carbide tool materials, and, in the narrow sense, abbreviation of cemented carbide alloysCarbide tools :Generic term of tools made of carbide tool materials

W, Ti, Al, Si, Ta, B and other carbides, nitrides, carbonitride and oxides plus Co, Ni, Mo and other metallic alloy components蔬.Precautions for handling carbide tool materials

・Characteristically, carbide materials are very hard but, at the same time, brittle, and, therefore, could be broken by applying shock or excessive fastening.・Carbide materials are large in specific gravity. Therefore, when handling carbide products, treat them as an heavy item with good care, if they are large in size or quantity.・Carbide materials are different in the coefficient of thermal expansion from metal materials. Therefore, please be careful that heating-fit or cooling-fit products could be

cracked, if the working temperature is remarkably higher or lower than the design temperature.・Corrosion of carbide materials with grinding or lubricating fluid or other liquid would spoil their strength. Therefore, please direct care to their storage conditions.

蔟.Precautions for processing cemented carbide tool materials・Carbide materials could remarkably be degraded in strength depending on the surface condition. For finish processing, please be sure to use diamond grinding wheels.・Carbide materials generate dust from grinding. This dust could be harmful to human bodies, if it is sucked by a large quantity. Therefore, before using carbide materials,

install a ventilator and wear protective gear (e.g., protective mask). If dust sticks to the skin or enters the eye, wash the skin or eye with flowing water immediately.・Wastewater from the grinding work of carbide materials or brazed products contains heavy-metal components. Therefore, please dispose of the wastewater in the speci-

fied manner.・When regrinding carbide tools, check them for any cracks after the regrinding.・Marking carbide materials or products with a laser, electric pen or the like could crack them. Therefore, please do not mark them on any stress-receiving portions.・Electric discharge machining of carbide materials could cause crack to their surfaces and resultant deteriorated strength. Therefore, if necessary, please completely

remove cracks, if any, by grinding or other means.・When brazing carbide materials, please be careful that, if the brazing temperature is too high or too low from the melting temperature of the brazing filler material, detach-

ment or damage could be caused.
