The Beginning

Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub opened its doors in December 1994 in historic downtown Idaho Springs in a building built in 1892. It was originally home to an old stage stop on the edge of the frontier. Later it would be known as the Placer Inn and become a bowling alley.

Tommyknocker Brewery and PubIdaho Springs, ColoradoTim Lenahan, Charlie Sturdavant , Richard Cohen and Gerry Ware were the Founders of Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub. The Placer Inn located off exit 240 along I-70 was a perfect location for their dream.

The doors opened December 4th, 1994 and the traffic from I-70 has been the lifeblood of the restaurant and pub. Most of the original equipment is still being used and the establishment has had steady and slow growth

Brewery Challenges

•Being in a small mountain town, weather and employee base is often unpredictable

•Updating our Image

•Space – Tommyknocker’s Restaurant and Brewery outgrew the original facility some

time ago. Being so close to the Elementary School meant that even when opportunity arose, we could not expand any further west.

• In 2008, the property next door located at 1427 miner street was purchased.plans for the property include adding:• 8000 square feet of brewery space,• Doubling the size of the kitchen• Adding 122 more seats to the restaurant,• A conference room. • Long term expansion plans include two vacation apartment

rentals and a feature deck.
