The Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu presided over the signing of two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with fintech multinationals Visa and Thomson Reuters at Mumbai. The mile-stone represents another firm step by the state government designed to catapult Fintech Valley Vizag as the national and global hub for financial technologies (fintech) innovation. The Government of Andhra Pradesh also hosted the first Fintech Val-ley Vizag Spring Conference 2017 on March 9-10, 2017. The conference will bring together fintech companies, start-ups, researchers and key govern-ment officials who are working in the fintech sec-tor, and will provide opportunities for disruptive business solutions. With a special focus on nurtur-ing start-ups, the Conference will also announce the winners of the Fintech Startup Challenge who will receive INR 15 lakh prize and free infrastruc-ture for six months in the Fintech Tower. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said, “Our vision is to create 5 lakh jobs in Andhra Pradesh by 2020 through technology-enabled services. Fintech Valley is a playground for start-ups and innovators. Our aim is to turn Fintech Valley into a global hub by enhancing the fintech ecosystem with mutually beneficial cross border collaborations and relation-ships. This can lead the way in the technological and financial growth of the nation.” “These MoUs are steps towards converting our vision to reality – of making Andhra Pradesh the leader in fintech ecosystem – through Fintech Val-ley Vizag. Both these companies, Visa and Thom-son Reuters, are industry leaders in their space and we are excited to be working with them.” added Mr. J. A. Chowdary, Special Chief Secretary & IT Advisor to the Chief Minister, Government of Andhra Pradesh.Visa is a global payments brand, technology and processing company with more than 2 billion credit, debit and prepaid accounts provided across more than 200 countries and territories. merchants and consumers to accept and adopt dig-ital payments. To make payments more efficient for businesses, the government is taking Visa’s support to enable digital payments for government and business segments, including the latest technolo-gies in Quick Response (QR) code and Near-Field Communication (NFC). Visa will also develop a cur-riculum for government and consumers, including modules to scale financial literacy. By encouraging the use of electronic payments in the city, with a special focus to include traditionally underserved segments, the agreement promises to make Vizag more financially inclusive and accepting of the dig-ital future. TR Ramachandran, Group Country Manager, Visa India & South Asia, speaking on this collabora-tion said, “Visa welcomes the opportunity to part-ner with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh on this unique and strategic endeavor. We propose to undertake this initiative as a part of Visa’s global financial inclusion efforts that aim to provide 500 million underserved with a payment account by 2020. We are committed to bringing Visa’s global expertise, innovations, and resources to make this endeavour a success. With the launch of BharatQR, a global first of its kind low cost payment solution,

we hope to rapidly scale up the number of small merchants accepting digital payments. In addition, we hope to implement innovative commercial pay-ment solutions that will accrue significant benefits to the state.” Thomson Reuters (TR) Corporation is a pro-vider of news and information for a range of pro-fessional markets. The company operates through three segments: Financial & Risk, Legal, and Tax & Accounting. The Financial & Risk segment is a provider of critical news, information and analytics, enabling transactions and connecting communities of trading, investment, financial and corporate pro-fessionals, as well as provides regulatory and oper-ational risk management solutions. Commenting on the MoU, Pradeep Lankapalli, Managing Director, Thomson Reuters South Asia said, “The Andhra Pradesh Government’s vision of transforming Visakhapatnam as the next fintech destination is admirable. As world’s oldest fintech company, with 150 years of financial innovation history, Thomson Reuters will serve as an accelera-tor in this journey. Our Open platform technology and access to global best practices, will provide the right enablers and expertise to the Andhra Pradesh government as they pursue the goal of building a global fintech hub.

currently hosted in our Hyderabad State Data Centre (SDC) to Vizag data centre. During this meeting with Mr. Nadella, there were discussions on the future of e-Gover-nance, technology, skill development and job creation for the youth of our state.I’m confident that Microsoft will support Andhra Pradesh in becoming digital AP and a knowledge hub, said Naidu.

Majority of the IT companies in undivided Andhra Pradesh made Hyderabad their home resulting in enormous proliferation of IT ecosys-tem. Consequently, other cities in then Andhra

Pradesh lagged sig-nificantly. After the division of the state, this lack of avail-able ecosystem has become a significant handicap to attract new IT companies to the state.IT industry in general also is undergoing

significant changes due to introduction of auto-mation resulting in limited expansion and even shrinkage of companies in some cases. Focus also has shifted to proliferation and success of small to moderate size niche companies instead of growth of large companies.APNRT has decided on a comprehensive approach involving means of production, human resources and marketing support to entice these companies back to Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh state already has an excellent incentive package for IT companies to relocate back to the state. Since majority of these NRT owned companies are small to medium sized, APNRT had made some recommendations to the IT department to tweak the incentive package. Based on the feedback from these companies, we started providing them with well-equipped quality “plug and play” space to avoid them hav-ing to incur a large capital expense. In addition to this benefit, state also provided for a one-

time assistance fee of Rs 50,000 to 150,000 per employee hired. This incentive package coupled with exhortation from APNRT convinced almost 60 small sized IT companies to relocate back to Andhra Pradesh. About 20 of them have started operations already. Another 40 of them are awaiting provision of quality office space which has been in short supply in our new Andhra Pradesh. In addition to these IT companies, APNRT also was able to win from AP Government, some incentives for IT training institutions as well. Gov of AP has decided to provide them a onetime subsidy of 50 % of their fixed capital investment excluding real estate. APNRT could convince 18 IT training companies from Hyderabad and Ban-galore to relocate to Amaravati and Vishakhapa-tnam to start creation of IT resources in Andhra Pradesh. APNRT also has arranged for partial subsidy of the cost of this training for the stu-dents using convergence from AP Skill develop-ment corporation, Kapu corporation, BC corpo-ration, SC/ST corporation, Brahmin corporation as well as from WAKF board. To bring these trained resources closer to these IT companies and training institutions, APNRT also has launched a portal “ITCentral.IN”. This portal allows companies to post their current and future requirements to guide the students and training institutions to prepare the resources in those areas. Students can search for jobs as well as training institutions to upgrade their skills. Training institutions can post their courses and modify them as per the requirements of the industry.

APNRT and IT Ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh To attract the bigger players in IT, APNRT has decided to adopt the “cluster” model which has been quite successful in manufacturing industry. In our proposed “e-Cluster” model, APNRT pro-poses that the Govt of AP provide quality infra-structure to house the companies in addition to providing for common training facilities for cre-ation of resources and marketing support when appropriate. APNRT also strives to recruit one or two anchor clients to support initiation of the cluster. Government of Andhra Pradesh will invest in common facilities by recruiting train-ing institutions to start creation of well-trained resources for the industry to choose from. Three clusters of one each in e-health ser-vices, VFX and financial services are in progress already with anchor clients and training insti-tutions in place. APNRT wish to become a one stop shop for these companies for arranging infra structure, governmental incentives, provi-sion of human resources (training, recruitment and subsidies) and whenever appropriate, mar-keting support. For the new IT companies considering expan-sion or relocation, APNRT can provide assistance in many areas to help their decision making regarding the location. APNRT can also become the conduit to get trained resources, incentives from Government as well as physical relocation in to Andhra Pradesh.About APNRT: Majority of Indian owned IT com-panies in USA belong to people from Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Government and Hon CM Nara Chandra Babu Naidu formed APNRT (Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society) and gave it the task of enticing them back to the state to function as a seed towards develop-ment of local IT industry.

~ A brief view of two core areas where syn-chronization between IoT and Internet tech-nologies is seamlessly happening ~

C o n n e c t i n g m a c h i n e s , devices, sen-sors, and other things of daily use with an intelligent net-work and make sense out of them, has huge promises to change every-day life. As can be expected by

taking in our entire world and attempting to change it one stroke and with one magic wand is unrealistic, challenging and cause for chaos in the short term. For business decision makers and technology providers, some measure of clarity and prog-ress can be made by understanding the chal-lenges of applying IoT to business. In this article we analyze two principal challenges in making this happen. Technology protocols:The challenges of IoT rest in the ability to con-nect sensors and devices to the Internet. To con-nect to the Internet any device and application must use Internet Protocol stacks. It is for this reason that devices called Internet Gateways have been created that connect to non IP devices and networks on one side and the Internet driven applications, devices and networks, on the other side. By doing so, Internet Gateways need to be tailored for the type of local networks and local applications that they manage on one side and

How IoT and Internet Will Converge By Bruce Zhou, CEO, AXILSPOT

how they connect to the Internet on the other side.Over the years, countless Internet Protocol driven applications, software tools and diagnostic kits have been developed and exist, that can be applied to IoT devices and sensors, with or with-out much adaptation. This will help to get the IoT environment up and running in a short period of time, relatively speaking. That is provided they are in the same Internet Protocol environment. The basis for the development of Internet Proto-col applications till now has been growing avail-ability of large computing power and significant memory capacity to manage complexity of the Internet Protocol based applications. And all this within localized high cost nodes like desktops, notebooks, smartphones, tablets, amongst oth-ers.This is the exact antithesis of the IoT environ-ment as it exists today, which is low cost, low power consuming, low computing capacity, and distributed computing nodes.Networking architecture:When building an IoT network it is essential to plan and look ahead. It is also important to converse with all departments associated with the benefits and operations of the IoT network and applications. When dealing with tens and hundreds of thousands of sensors and devices in any IoT project, it is pivotal to have a network-ing strategy to ensure the end result is managed chaos instead of unmanaged chaos.Industry consultants who have gone through such projects point out, IoT application and network designs need to be built looking at requirements five years from now. When in doubt the rule of thumb is design networks for a requirement that is 10X the number of devices that are connect-

ing in now. Another important consideration is to design the wireless environment thinking about what will happen in that specific industry over next five years. While the benefits of such best practices are self-evident, industry surveys show that such discussions are not happening as much as they should. If all else fails, the minimum rule of thumb to apply, think big for IoT.Looking ahead into the requirements for IoT type of networks there is a significant change in the way devices will communicate. More often than not, communication signals will hop from device to device, to enter and leave the network of devices, connecting into and out of their mesh network.Utilizing a number of hops between devices rather than the conventional hub to spoke jump will become the standard for most IoT applica-tions and networks. The key here is multiple and random paths between IoT devices, based on pre-defined algorithms, rather than a fixed point to point hop. This saves power, saves cost, builds scale, and builds redundancy. These networks are called mesh networks and the devices are called wireless nodes. Since connectivity within mesh networks rely on each other, their efficiency grows with an increase in the number of devices. Mesh networks become more efficient as the number of wireless nodes inside them increases. This is the opposite of what happens with the hub and spoke, star network arrangement. As silicon technologies enhance the computing capabilities of IoT sen-sors, devices, machines and appliances, they will increasingly become more Internet compatible. At that stage the two worlds will come together in exponential fashion and the true power of IoT will become a reality.
