I was visiting Puducherry for recently being invited as a media guest by the Puducherry IT Assocaition (ITTA-P). Before going to the expo, I was visualizing a doomed faces by the vendors and exhibitors claiming the loss due to the unethical e-sale. With the recent demonization adding fuel to the fire, I was expecting a different scenario.

However, what I witnessed now was parts away. Many channel partners, who were prepared with their plastic swipe POS machines, told that the customers were happy buying with cash-on-hand. Even if not full money, the customers give a high-denomination note for booking a product. They prefer buying the prod-uct later. Some partners also feel that many laptop and desktop vendors have segregated their online and offline product separately, many customers who see the product in the expo, often fail searching the same

product offline. Even if they search, they can find only it in the company-owned website which shows price additional to what is displayed in the expo counter.

On the association front, we have the interview of the new chairman of Association of system integrators and retailers in Information technology. The IT asso-ciation in Tamil Nadu Tiruvannamalai, CSS is bringing new hopes. The ISODA is gearing up for their anniver-sary summit at Vietnam. Also, we have the new CRM launched by Indian born Enjay IT.

The new year has born and the last financial year that has ended in December (for some companies) has been positive. With the money issues back on normal, we are hoping for the prosperous financial year.

momentum in the coming year as well.“An increasing focus on digitization will push

service providers to expand their IT infrastructure and that should create more business opportuni-ties for companies like ours. Therefore there is no reason why we should be worried about the impact of initiatives like demonetization or digitization,” said Ravi Raj, Brand Head, Director Sales & Support, NetRack.

2016 has been a year which is likely to be marked in history as the year that witnessed the onset of the Fourth Industrial Revolution -an era where the physical and digital worlds will converge to transform the way we live and do business. And while we have heard a lot of buzz around it this year, 2017 will be the year when it kicks in full force.

It was also the year when we at Citrix rede-fined our vision and strategyto enable our mis-sion to power a world where people, organi-zations and things are securely connected and accessible. This, based on mobile, cloud, big data analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) – four forces, the adoption and convergence of which will fuel the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The flipside of the dawn of the new era, from

an organisation’s perspective, is the technological complexity, heterogeneity and information over-load that comes with convergence. Giventhis, we believe the following factors will determine how the business landscape takes shape in the coming years, beginning with 2017.

Hybrid IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence has grown by leaps and

bounds in the last few years, however the human element still plays a crucial role in the larger scheme of things, and this is where Hybrid Intelli-gence will play a crucial role. Hybrid Intelligence enables computers and humans to work together which significantly improves the productivity as compared to when the two function in isolation. What Hybrid Intelligence will essentially do is help us make more sense of all the information we

Technology Trend Predictions for 2017gather and make meaningful connections, which is the essence of creativity and productivity.

Workspace as a Service (WaaS)The concept of work is poised to undergo a

fundamental shift, in fact the process has already begun. We envision that the future workplace would be a cloud-delivered conduit to individual productivity, and its success will be measured by its ability to provide an integrated, flexible and secure experience across the board, irrespective of the origin of the data. So, while organisations could gear their systems and infrastructure to cater to this scenario, a consistent yet bespoke solution would determine the success of how well organisations adopt it.

Adaptive Security ArchitectureThe ever evolving application architecture,

mobile and other emerging platforms as well as the all-pervasive Internet of Things while making matters convenient, have also made networks more porous and prone to security threats. How-ever those being digital imperatives, the onus will be on the CISO’s office to design an agile security system that responds to the environment in real-time without violating users’ privacy or compro-mising the networks’ functionality.

It is a given that the Fourth Industrial Revolu-tion will be marked by an unprecedented deluge of data that will have an impact on most, if not all, aspects of our life as well as the business land-scape. It is also a given that that technology will be at the very core of it all. However, how well we understand it and bring it all together will be the keys to survival and success in the years to come.

Modi, V.P Marketing and Sales at Abacus Periph-erals. He adds, “Our marketing plans are all set in places to launch the product, and with the early reviews of BLAZE DDR4 we are very confident that this will product would surely provide best gaming experience possible.” Zion Blaze DDR4 RAMs are available in 8GB and 16 GB memory modules and are compatible with all the current AMD and Intel platforms. The Zion BLAZE DDR4 memories oper-ates at lower voltage than any DDR3 module and are engineered to work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver excellent performance and stability.

Apple plans to make iPhones for the Indian market in Bengaluru. Wistron, a Taiwanese OEM maker for Apple, is setting up a facility in Peenya, the city’s industrial hub, to manufacture the iPhones. The facility will start produc-tion from next April, according to industry sources.

Top sources in the com-pany confirmed to TOI that Apple is “very seri-ous” about beginning assembly operations —and thereafter full manu-facture — in India by the end of next year. “Ban-galore is being looked at seriously,” said multiple sources within the company. Local manufacture will help Apple price its phones competi-tively as full imports attract 12.5% addi-tional duty.

Apple CEO Tim Cook’s multi-city India tour earlier this year signalled the growing impor-tance of India powered by the demand for Apple

products by a burgeoning middle class. Data from Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Technology Mar-ket Research showed that Apple sold 2.5 million iPhones in India from October 2015 to Septem-ber 2016, a rise of more than 50% over the year-ago period.

The revenue numbers speak for themselves. Apple India clocked robust sales touching Rs 9,997 crore in the 2016 financial year, up 56% from Rs 6,472 crore, previously. The company’s net profit grew 21% to Rs 294 crore during the same period with deeper retail penetration and lower prices for older iPhone models that gar-nered a huge user base. An email sent to Apple didn’t elicit a response till the time of going to press.

Apple has published job openings on its por-tal for a few positions at its OEM’s factory in Bengaluru like operations program manager and product quality manager. the world by the end of 2016. However, Gartner does not expect any growth in shipments of tra-ditional devices until 2018, when a small increase in ultramobiles and mobile phone shipments is expected. “The global devices market is stagnat-ing. Mobile phone shipments are only growing in emerging Asia/Pacific markets, and the PC market is just reaching the bottom of its decline,” said Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner. “As well as declining shipment growth for traditional

devices, average selling prices are also beginning to stagnate because of market saturation and a slower rate of innovation,” added Mr. Atwal. “Consumers have fewer reasons to upgrade or buy traditional devices. 1). They are seeking fresher experiences and applications in emerg-ing categories such as head mounted displays (HMDs), virtual personal assistant (VPA) speakers and wearables.”

While the whole nation is on the drive towards cashless economy, cash transactions dominated in the IT-Expo organized for the 15th year by the Infor-mation technology association of Puducherry. The event was titled ‘COMPEX- 2017’ The IT expo has always been the flagship event for the association in the UT is much appreciated and most expected by the local and customers from the vicinity. Sridhar M, chairman of the expo tells that the trending sales of the expo were segments like Laptops, network-ing products and security solutions. “We had book-ings for most stalls 20 days before the event and the response for this is always receptive. With our 20 years of excellence, our expo is always expected as many customers think that the expo will get them maximum price discounts.”, he said. He also added that the customers might not get the touch-and-feel concept even in retail outlets and goodies were additional advantage for those who buy.

One Vendor One Stall:There were close to 70 stalls comprising of lap-

tops, desktops, networking, security, CCTV, print-ers and copiers, accessories/peripheras and more. To avoid killing of price by the stall owners within the expo, the expo had a concept, ‘one vendor one stall’. The association has three layers of stalls.

Confed Conducts Badminton, Cricket TournamentTamil Nadu Gets An-other IT Association

Cash Transactions Dominate ITTA-Pondy ExpoOther than the bottom layer has multi branded stalls, every other stalls will stick on to any one ven-dor. “That way, when you see one product at one stall, no other stall in the venue will have the same. This will mainly kill the filthy competition in the expo venue and putting an end to the under-cutting of the product price”, says Sridhar who also stalled his products in the expo.

Participation from Government:On the day two of the inauguration of the

expo, the organizers organized a meeting, calling all the key officers in various government officers in Puducherry government. The members explained the activities of the association, their strength within the union territory and their network in Tamil Nadu IT association. The team also stressed for local pro-curement within the members of the association. The government also had assured making use of the association in terms of the projects like e-gov-ernance and e-waste management by appointing members as their authorized collection agents. The government also had a stall for the e-recycling stressing the importance of e-cycling.

An expo of cash transactions:Post-demotization, many associations were

gearing up for a cash-less transactions. Similarly, the stalls in the expo were also predicting that custom-ers might buy cashless. Anticipating such situation, almost all the stalls were decorated with point-of-sale swipe machines for debit and credit cards. However, to their surprise more cash-payments were happening in the expo. Aravindan S of Sham-rock systems, one of the exhibitor told that people came with high-denomination notes of value INR Two Thousands and pre-booking were happening with cash and in a day it was only full of cash trans-

actions and no plastic money. Another trend which Aravindan recalls is the reduce in the discussions on price comparisons with their online counterparts. “We find people coming back to retail. Customers who use to check online on prices has reduced. It is very evident that it is a level-playing field for every-one who is in the business.” He also adds that many companies brought price-parity among the sell-ers and there is no need for the physical stores to worry. Also, many products are now available only with retailers which are not supposed to be sold in a market place.

V Vaithialingam former Chief Minister and the present speaker of the Puducherry state assembly inaugurated the expo.

We specialise in information security, stor-age and backup solutions, DR, virtualisation, business continuity and emailing solutions. We mainly focus on data leakage prevention, encryption, SIEM, IPS, firewalls, APT, MDM, SLB & GSLB Solutions, IAM & PIM solutions

What are the top vendors and clients you work with?

McAfee, Sonicwall, Sophos, Fortinet, Syman-tec, IBM, Array Networks, Google and AltN Tech-nologies. On the clientele, we mainly work in the mid market and large enterprise space.

What are the industry verticals you want to expand?

We are focusing mainly on banking, NBFC, manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality seg-ments.

What are the key challenges which exists only for a security player?

As a security partner, we need to invest con-tinuously in subject matter experts in focussed areas and be abreast with all the new develop-ments to be ahead of the curve. Many a times after investments the resources are developed, they are being pursued by bigger rivals and poached. Also, security is very subjective we need to give free consultancy to the customer in all matters related to security even though it doesn’t fall under our purview. That consumes maximum of our time.

Please explain in detail what is your take on storage and servers industry getting killed by Cloud business?

Cloud is the way forward. Although complete adoption of Cloud based services will take some time due to bandwidth speed & cost constrains. Yes definitely cloud has an impact on traditional selling models and lot of customers have already moved to the cloud in some way and most are planning as they think they will get unmatched resiliency, support and scale. Cloud will be big in India in few years and I think around 70% will adopt to cloud.

What is the one unique selling point for Sil-icon Netsecure ?

We, at Silicon Netsecure , present ourselves as India’s leading Information Security Services provider and partner. Since 2000, our focus has been on networks and information security ser-

vices. Our clients gain from this specialisation, as they attempt to measure and manage infor-mation risk in an increasingly complex business and operating environment. We review the secu-rity environment as a whole and advise organi-sations on the best practices and applications to meet legal compliance and company obliga-tions. We constantly review new technologies to satisfy the emerging customer requirements. We are firmly committed to continuous custom-er-centric innovation. The company develops its innovative network security and storage solu-tions on the fundamental belief that customers need converged, easy to manage, and reliable solutions that provide them with the capacity and security to maximise business opportuni-ties. Our technical knowledge, expertise & sup-port has been one of our main USP’s.

Security industry is getting consolidated everywhere. As a partner in this space, what you think, the changes in security business are about to come?

There is a consolidation wave in the security industry as leaders are realigning their strategy and focusing on delivering advance solutions and as a SI I see a big opportunity to cross-sell and up-sell security that compliments the exist-ing infrastructure with technologies, also trend is moving towards more cognitive and machine learning technologies and customers would look at players who can deliver end-to-end technologies and help them address security at every step.

What is your view on cloud security and how you are getting geared up for the same?

Cloud security is still in its nascent stage as lot of security vendors are evolving around cloud players like AWS and Azure, but there are still gaps & challenges which needs to be addressed to have tight-knit security in place, we as secu-rity focussed SI are already aligned with major players in the industry and building our team for security practices on major platforms to help our customer in areas of cloud security and com-pliance.
