This is a guide for students to support their use of technology in their home. Please use it to solve for any issues that arise during Remote Learning.

How do you get free internet in your home? ● All issues that arise regarding the internet or the need to get internet must be directed to Xfinity. There are two

dedicated phone numbers: 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish

How do you set up your Google account? Student Log on procedure for Chromebooks

Most Chromebooks turn on automatically when you open it. If it doesn’t, press the power button on the top right corner of the keyboard.

The device needs to be connected to a wireless network.

1. Click the menu in the bottom right corner.

2. Choose your personal wireless network or xfinitywifi.

At the Chromebook welcome screen, Click Add Person in the bottom left corner.

Enter the student Username

1. Student ID/lunch number , six digits only

2. Enter the 8 digit student password (student’s birthdate)

For example, June 1, 2014

3. Click Sign in.

Scroll down and press Accept if prompted.

To shut down, click in the bottom right corner and choose the shutdown button.

The next time the student logs in, choose the account from the list on the right.

Enter the password and press enter on the keyboard.

CHARGING Chromebooks: charge until 100% Unplug. Use until 15-20%. Charge again. DO NOT CHARGE OVERNIGHT!

What is Google Classroom? ● Google Classroom is a virtual learning space where teachers can post assignments and students can

complete their work for teachers to see. Teachers are able to check the work of their students and provide students feedback within the online classroom.

You can access Google Classroom on a Smartphone or Tablet by downloading the Google Classroom app as well!

Go to classroom.google.com or mail.google.com then login with your DPS username (student lunch number@dpsk12.net ) and password

Click on the 9 boxes for all of the Google apps available from your email

Then click on the Classroom icon

Click on the class you want to enter

Click on the Classwork tab at the top of the page to view assignments

How do you join another class in your Google Classroom? Join a class as a student - See the 2 ways you can join!

● Option 1 - Join with class code (may be received in another class or in your email)

○ If you had the code and lost it, please reach out to your teacher to resend the code if your other joining option is not available in your Classroom homepage

○ At the top, click Add Join class

○ Enter the class code your teacher gave you and click Join. A class code consists of 6 or 7 letters or numbers. For example, hjhmgrk or g5gdp1 .

● Option 2 - Join by accepting the invitation from your teacher that should show in your classroom homepage

What is Google Meets? Google Meet is a video conferencing app. It is the business-oriented version of Google's Hangouts platform and is suitable for businesses/classes of all sizes. The solution enables users to make video calls with up to 30 users per high-definition video meeting.

How do I join a Google Meet? Check out a video to help you login to a Google Meet - Guide to Google Meet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_ywOjB1c4Q Your teacher may send you an invitation to join a Google Meet.

● Your teacher may make an announcement in the “Stream” of your classroom ● You can then go to the “Classwork” tab ● from there you will be able to go “Google Calendar” (top right of the screen) and click on that to find the

invite on the specific day/time ● Click on your invite and from there you will find the link to join your Google Meet (video) session where

you can see your teacher and classmates!
