Technology Transfer Professionals Training Course 9- 12 December, 2013 Technology Transfer Professionals Training Course will be organized by Sabancı University and Inovent Ventures with the collaboration of University of Oxford-Isis Innovation, between the 9 th and the 12 th of December at Sabancı University Communication Center. The goal of this program is for attendees to obtain hands-on practical experience on the entire technology transfer and maximization process, Attracting invention disclosures IP portfolio management Evaluating and marketing technology opportunities Negotiating license agreements Planning spin-out/start-up companies Learning about TT best practices The training program would be delivered over four days, by Isis Innovation and Inovent as a joint training program created exclusively for Turkish ecosystem including ISIS Innovation’s training materials and Inovent’s IQ2IP(tm) training modules. All the training material is delivered through a mix of presentations, case studies, and interactive exercises. Those delegates who succesfuly complete the four day trainng program shall be issued a joint ISIS-Inovent certificate of completion. This program offers an essential training and support to technology transfer professionals at all career levels. Entrepreneurs, R&D managers, IP professionals and tech focused SMEs can also advance their knowledge and further their career by taking advantage of these courses. Technology Transfer Professionals Training Course will be organized by Sabancı University and Inovent Ventures with the collaboration of University of Oxford-Isis Innovation, between the 9th and the 12th of December at Sabancı University Communication Center.

Isis Innovation Ltd (Isis) is the technology transfer company of the University of Oxford, one of the oldest and most respected universities in the world. In the context of this proposal, Isis Innovation’s relevant expertise includes the conclusion of more than 800 commercialisation agreements over the past 10 years including over 500 licensed technologies, the establishment of plans for research support organisations for client governments and universities, the development of consultancy services through the growth of Oxford University Consulting and the creation of a portfolio of more than 70 highly successful spin-out companies.

Inovent is Turkey’s first technology commercialization/accelerator and seed fund company established in 2006 as a for profit, fully owned subsidiary of Sabanci University. Inovent’s focus is on the commercialization of early stage technologies with a particular focus on fostering faculty based entrepreneurship. Inovent’s mission includes fostering awareness of the importance of creating a country wide dynamic ecosystem that will support innovative technology based entrepreneurship, a dynamic venture capital and angel investor infrastructures while promoting the proper management of intellectual assets and intellectual property portfolio at the core of an entire value management system and a driver of knowledge based economic development.

TRAINERS:

MANUEL FUERTES, MEng, MChS, MBA – Spanish born Manuel Fuertes has spent much of his working life in China. In 2003 Manuel founded an engineering consultancy company in Shanghai, designing and implementing outsourcing projects for global brands. He is the recipient of numerous Engineering prizes, including the UK Institution of Engineering & Technology and the Mechanical Engineers prize for 2004. In 2010, Manuel’s group employed over 100 engineers worldwide who saved over €15 mn a year to clients such as Disney. Being entrepreneurial Manuel has started six companies over the course of his career and served as a president of the Entrepreneurship Network at Saïd Business School, Oxford University, where he completed an MBA and won the competitive Isis-SBS Fellowship. Manuel currently sits at the investment board of several investment funds and has recently raised €3.5 million for a new venture in Europe.

EVA BALTAR, Consultant – Eva studied Business Administration at the University of Santiago de Compostela where she also earned a Master of Science in Applied Economics, which focused on the survival analysis of Spanish innovative companies.

She spent three years working as a consultant at the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she was also an investment analyst at a venture capital society specializing in technology-based spin-outs. Eva afterwards moved to the private sector and gained experience as a Deputy Finance Director, later returning to technology transfer management at the Deputy Vice Presidency of Knowledge Transfer at CSIC, the largest public research institution in Spain. At CSIC she managed, for more than three years, R&D projects and the commercialisation of technologies through the creation of spin-outs. Eva joined Isis Enterprise in September 2011 as an Associate Consultant for Spain and Latin America, and is based in Galicia.

BRUNO REYNOLDS, Consultant – Bruno completed his MSc in Neuroscience at University College London and a PhD in Developmental Biology at Cambridge University. Following this he held a postdoctoral research position at Oxford University, investigating the role of amino acid transporters in cell growth. Bruno then moved to Portugal where he undertook a postdoc in technology transfer at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) in Oeiras. In 2011 he co-founded Triple Helix Technologies (THT) a company that manages IP and business development opportunities for Life Science research institutes in the greater Lisbon area. Whilst working for THT he has gained experience in all stages of the technology transfer process, from sourcing invention disclosures, IP and market due diligence, patenting and licensing. Additionally he has been involved in institute wide activities including; drafting an IP policy, auditing institute IP, and sourcing funding opportunities. Whilst in Portugal he completed the Lisbon MBA, a program jointly delivered by Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Bruno joined Isis Enterprise in October 2013.

OMER HIZIROGLU, CLP – Omer has a BA in Economics and International relations from Tufts University, Massachusetts. He has a European Union Law master’s degree (LL.M) from University of Geneva, Switzerland and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston.He is a member of the Istanbul bar, as well as of the bars of both the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Omer is the General Manager of Inovent, a technology transfer fund based in Istanbul. He also advises Sabanci University on Intellectual Property rights and technology transfer matters. Omer is the president of the board and president of Licensing Executives Society (LES Turkey). He is also active within LES International having assumed the roles of vice-chair of IUGT, chair of Young Members Congress and is currently one of the vice-chairs for External outreach program and chair of Mentoring Program. Omer is one of the founding members of the Galata Business Angels Network (GBA) and a member of AUTM and ASTP.He is an adjunct faculty member at Yeditepe University Law School and Sabanci University (Istanbul) teaching International Intellectual Property Law and Technology Commercialization and Entrepreneurship courses.
