design for a mixed-use project on a large site thatcombines a complex program with a number ofinteresting urban site conditions in Greenville, S.C.the scheme combines a large train station, retailunits, and housing.

the main driving concept is the focus on amonolithic train station. representing the trainand industry, the building composes of heavyconcrete and steel use.

the site is broken into three major programmaticschemes: train station, retail + housing, andhousing units

the train station is the central focus of the design. theprogram combines a use for ticketing, ofces, and acafe.

the graduate research center is a large programproject for wind turbine research that is located atthe Navy Yard in Charleston, S.C.

there are several driving ideas for the designconcept. The heavy concrete and steel representthe past monolithic presence of the Navy that isno longer present in the area since the 1980s.Secondly the pushing and pulling of the oorplans represent the massive docks that site on thewaters edge found in the aerial photos.
