Camp Layout
• 4 bedroom cabins, sleep 4 per room / 16 per cabin
• Hot showers and AC
• Swimming Pool, life guard required
• 140 Acres with open fields, walking trails, some wooded
areas, and a fishing pond
• 2 Auditorium style venues
• Kitchen with cooks, hot meals 3 X day
• Fenced in perimeter
• Access to unused cabins for urban search and rescue

9 Teen CERTs conducted, one annually
Teen CERTs include CERT material and other safety programs
Approximately 900 people have attended
Classes have increased starting about 50 and up to 145 in 2014.
Large group is broken down into manageable groups of about 30 for hands on activities
Utilize skills of attendees to supplement courses.
Program Content
Primarily we do all Chapters of Teen CERT
Originally started finding subject matter experts to present
The CERT Courses are done primarily during the day to make sure they are covered
One year we were scrambling to cover for an instructor that was a last minute cancellation
JROTC Instructor walked up and offered to help
Handed me jump drive that has all very well done professional Power Points for each Teen CERT Chapter
Advised they were given to all JROTC Instructors
Going Hands On
Acadain Ambulance introduces concepts of CPR,
Splinting etc.
Has mannequins for hands on along with
improvised splints.
2 days later we re-inforce the concepts with a
“When help is delayed” Course from Acadian
Explorer POST
Fire agencies have provided Bolex, smoke trailer,
visit from Spirit of Louisiana
Going Hands On (cont)
Do a classroom on search and rescue principles
Have smoke machines, mannequins, etc for urban
search and rescue
Utilize the facility extra cabins or offices to search.
Use outside acres for open fields searches for signs
of missing persons (welfare concerns)
Use concept of teams and partners to search trails
Have had local law enforcement come in to simulate
DUI Checkpoint.
Going Hands On (cont)
After DUI used makeup to simulate some fatalities,
also a booking and holding cell and bonding
procedures. Had to locate missing members in
hospital or identify in morgue.
Have done a plane crash response after supper.
Did light Urban Search of cabins and moved all
“volunteers” to cafeteria to sleep, set up fire
watches, separate male/female sleeping areas, and
woke up to breakfast and search and rescue
assignments.
