What was it?FDR, Churchill, and Stalin met in Tehran, Iran to coordinate their military strategy against Germany and Japan.
Tehran Conference
-They realized that the war had caused special economic damage to Iran.
-All claimed the shared “desire for the maintenance of the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Iran.”
Declaration of the Three Powers of Iran
-In exchange for Stalin declaring war on Japan, FDR conceded Kurile Islands, southern half of Sakhalin, access to ports of Dairen and Port Arthur (not finalized till Yalta)-decision to further the borders of Poland, not enacted till Potsdam-FDR would allow Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia to rejoin the USSR after the citizens voted in favor, Stalin agreed provided that there would be no intervention
Compromises
Fdr-The partisans in Yugoslavia should be given as much supplies and equipment as possible-Turkey should enter the war on the side of the allies-*Operation Overload* in which France would be attacked by May of 1944 while Stalin distracted Germany on the Eastern front.

● The goals were to decide on post war actions and on actions to take to ensure that they prevailed

● Russia would join the US and Britain against Japan
● Once the war was won Germany would be split into four

Potsdam conference
● The major issue at the potsdam conference was how they were suppose to handle germany.
● At yalta the soviets had pressed for for heavy postwar reparations which would go to the soviet union.
● Harry truman and james byrnes didn’t want history to repeat itself like the treaty of versailles so they were determined to mitigate the treatment of germany by allowing the occupying nations to exact reparations only from their own zone of occupation.
Disagreements
● The negotiators confirmed the status of a demilitarized and disarmed Germany under four zones of Allied occupation.
● German society was to remain on democratic lines and to get rid of all discriminatory nazi era laws.
● Education and judicial systems was to be rid of any authoritarian influences and democratic parties would be encouraged to participate in administration of germany local and state level.
