Design: (Detail how your front page will look. Discuss the choice of masthead and what genre of music your publication will promote.)

My music magazine will focus on electronic music, such as dubstep, drum and bass, drumstep and electro house. These genres of music are starting to gain popularity with teenagers, and is starting to become mainstream. The niche genre of music has few magazines relating to it, but due to its nature, new tracks are constantly being produced. My magazine will include upcoming events news, such as new releases, concerts and news on up-and-coming artists, as well as exclusive interviews. These were taken from questionnaire results, so it will attract fans of the genre. The masthead, TEK, comes from the word ‘tech’, which shows the genre of electronic music. The ‘ch’ on the end on the word is replaced with the letter k, giving a more edgy look to the magazine. It is the second highest voted name. The highest voted was Vortex, but the name was already used by a music magazine. The font I am using is Gang Wolfik Blade, as it is futuristic and edgy, reflecting the music style. On the magazine it will be white to stand out.

House Style: (Discuss the choice house style of your publication. House style is 'the specific usage and editing conventions followed by writers and editors to ensure stylistic consistency in a particular publication or series of publications'. This includes font, colours, design of contents and page layout.)

The magazine will use a black, red and white colour scheme, as these colours were voted as the most appropriate for a music magazine of this genre. Black will give the magazine dark and mysterious theme, while red will show energy, which reflects the style of he music genre. The colour red will help the magazine stand out in a crowd of other magazines The colour black will make the red ‘pop’ and stand out more. The font used will be Arial, as it is easy to read at different sizes. Ariel is also a basic font, so it will not be too distracting when used. The other font used will be Gang Wolfik Blade, which, like I mentioned earlier, is futuristic and edgy. The font will add imagery to the page and make them look interesting. The layout will be energetic and layered, which will reflect the style of music and the way it is made

Target Audience:   (who would be the target audience for your product? Give a detailed example of who your target market would be.)

My target market will be males aged 14-19 who are interested in the genre. The target market of the genre is a male teenager around 14-19 years old. However, I will keep my magazine design as unisex as possible, as females can also listen to the genre. The reason my target demographic is relatively small is because it is easier to appeal this small group than trying to target at everyone and causing the magazine to be too confused wit its design.

Cover Information: (how much will your publication cost? Will it be monthly/weekly/bi monthly. How much revenue would you expect to make?)

The magazine will cost around £2, as this is in the acceptable price range, as voted by the people I surveyed. It is also the normal price for a magazine, which will hint at its quality. Therefore, 50 copies a day for a week would bring in revenue of £700. The magazine will be weekly, as this was voted the most appropriate by the people I surveyed, as it will be often so people don’t lose interest, but it will not be too often so people will be able to afford it.

Publishing House: (which publishing house would print your magazine and why? Look back at your previous institution research.)

I would choose Time Inc. as my publishing house, as they only have one music magazine, so another, unique music magazine will help the increase revenue. This magazine will also help them compete against Future PLCs’ magazine, Computer Music.
