A residential project won the 2013 Global Bim Award in precast concrete category. The model has the main structure from precast concrete elements such as walls, sandwich walls, columns, beams, hollow-core slabs, balcony slabs, piles and stairs. The building also has cast-in-place footings and basement walls and brickwork facade. Model is extremely highly detailed with all the reinforcements and cast-in inserts. The model package includes all the general drawings and over 700 element drawings.

Description

A residential project won the 2013 Global Bim Award in precast concrete category. The building is located in Helsinki. The project consists of 95 apartments, a parking garage and a deck above it with a yard. The project is scheduled to finish in 2015.

The structure of the residential buildings is comprised of load-bearing reinforced concrete walls and hollow-core slabs, and to some extent precast columns and precast slabs. Some of the partitions and exterior walls also function as stiffening structures. The structural core of the patio deck is comprised of stiffening precast columns, steel composite beams (Delta-beams) as well as hollow-core slabs. Both the residential buildings and the patio deck use steel piles as struts.

The exterior walls are mainly brick, with the courtyard walls being brick- or concrete covered sandwich elements. The façade also contains embedded U-shaped bars, which circle the building and divide the façade into five different colored brick layers. The solid parts of windows are façade glass

Bruce Highway Bridge

The bridge itself is a dual-roadway, 2-span composite prestressed concrete deck unit and reinforced concrete deck slab overpass, 60m long and 27m wide, and includes a 9m wide and long off-ramp bridge. The bridge materials total about 3200 cubic meters of concrete and about 400 tons of reinforcing steel.

Description

Cooroy Southern Interchange Bridge is one of six bridges on the Bruce Highway Cooroy to Curra upgrade project for the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads. The upgrade project, known as “Section A”, includes 13km of new road alignment, bridges and other civil and structural works at Federal on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

The bridge itself is a dual-roadway, 2-span composite prestressed concrete deck unit and reinforced concrete deck slab overpass, 60m long and 27m wide, and includes a 9m wide and long off-ramp bridge. The bridge materials total about 3200 cubic meters of concrete and about 400 tons of reinforcing steel.

The Tekla model includes primarily cast in place and precast concrete elements with reinforcement. The modeling elements were used to create the bridge structure comprising precast concrete driven piles, pilecaps, columns, abutment and pier headstocks, wingwalls, precast and cast in place barrier panels, deck units, deck slabs and relieving slabs.

The model was used for creating construction drawings, reports (including quantity take-offs), 3D visualizations for client viewing and project collaboration between the design office team and construction site team, using IFC models viewable in Tekla BIMsight.

Hilton Airport Vantaa

The Hilton hotel in Vantaa, Finland provides services in the main international airport district near Helsinki. The structure is mainly precast concrete with additional steel structures. Description

The hotel has 7 storeys and 240 rooms for guests. The main structure is made of precast concrete and composite structures. The model was heavily used in collaboration between engineering fields in design process for example in setting hole reservations. Model also used for visualisation in fabrication and construction.

Model was made with older versions of Tekla Structures but even then it was highly detailed. Even though the model has large number of modeled structures, the model is exceptionally light to run.

KV Arkens Väg

A residential project consisting of 4 precast concrete buildings in Sweden. A big, well-detailed model, which runs smoothly. Structure has for example good sandwich elements and complex anchoring connection made of steel for connecting balcony slabs. The model won the Tekla Finland BIM Award in precast category in 2014 for it's extensive model use on the fabricator side.

Description

4 new residential buildings in Haninge, Sweden with 222 rental apartments. Main above-ground structure is made of precast concrete with load-bearing sandwich wall elements and hollow-core slabs. The project won the Tekla Finland BIM Award 2014 in precast category.

The modeling and precast detailing was made by lithuanian JSC Concretus Designers, which is part of Markuciai group that also had the fabrication and element installation contracts.

Model detail level is very high and all the element cast unit drawings were taken from the model. In addition workshop drawings for steel components (such as the complex anchoring connection for the balcony slabs) were also produced from the model. Model has over 100 000 steel parts included in or connecting to precast structures.

In addition the model was used for object-based quantity take-off and scheduling using status and date attribute fields. Also wall panel object geometry was taken into mesh-welding machine in Unitechnik-format. Model was used in the site coordination and visualisation as well in IFC-format.

Bianco Precast was new to Tekla software when the company started modeling the huge and highly complex Urban Superway in Adelaide. The project is the biggest single investment ever in a South Australian road project and the state’s most complex engineering road construction project to date.

Puuvilla

A large shopping centre in Pori, Finland is combination of new and existing concrete structures. The shopping centre is set inside an old industrial building, and also expanded outside it with new precast and composite structures. The model won the Global BIM Award 2013 in precast category. Model use during the project was very extensive.

Description

A shopping center combining old and new structures and housing retail, office, warehouse and parking space. Puuvilla is located in Pori, Finland.

3D modeling-based design has been adopted throughout the project. The model was crafted using BEC2012-guidelines to make the model data more usable for quantity take-off and exporting it to other systems. Models with status and date attributes were used to coordinate design and fabrication processes. The fabricator imported the model data to their own ERP-system using link extension. BIMsight was used on-site.

The project consisted of over 10 000 precast elements. Besides precast elements the new structural frames had composite and cast-in-place structures.
