Telematics

Telematics is the blending of computers and wireless telecommunications technologies, ostensibly with the goal of efficiently conveying information over vast networks to improve a host of business functions. It is as good as a mobile phone installed in a vehicle. The mobile phone connected to vehicle critical sensors and switches instead of typical mobile buttons.

The vehicle sensors and switches status is read by this installed mobile ( telematics device) which than transmits the same to a dedicated server either maintained by the OEM or by the telematics unit supplier or a third party.

What is does not have :No GPRS functionality that means no real time data is available to the server ONLY alerts are availableNo GPS location. One can find the location by looking at tower location with help of service providerSMS are send directly by the vehicle telematics hence no control on the no of sms send and cannot be disabled.
