AMY ATKINS

Amy Atkins is fundamentally a feminist

She is a writer, creative performance artist, and qualified As-sociate Speech and Drama teacher. A Bachelor of Arts was not enough—Amy is currently furthering her studies with a Diploma in Applied Management.

As a menstrual activist she organises menstrual product collec-tion events for Bloody Good Period and is in conversation with Principals from the lower North Island to bring her feminist comedy Period to high school students!

Feminist Theatre for Youth

The 70th Edinburgh Festival Fringe theatre for youth and by youth was dominated by fairy tales of yesteryear—outdated and misogynistic.

We must explore new stories and ways to engage youth in femi-nist dialogue.

How do we prepare the next generation of actors, public figures, and employees for equality and equity through theatre? Amy takes a look back at 50 performances—and looks forward to creating theatre for youth by youth that is fundamentally femi-nist.

Offering youth the space to explore theatre for social change is not unrealistic—it’s a necessity, it’s essential for the here and now.

Amy will present and perform ‘PERIOD’.

Not just for women.

Period. is a situational skit comedy designed for 9-years and up. Join Karla as she experiences her very first period and every men-struator’s worst nightmares… blood floods! Rouge pads! Tampons! PMS! Grab your blood plugs, dust off the surfboards, its leak week. All menstruators and non-menstruators are bloody welcome to join this taboo crushing conversation.

This show contains no sexual representations or profanity just lots of blood, a giant anatomically correct vulva, and every menstrual malfunction, ever!

This is sure to blow you all OFF THE PEAK!
