    Conference: Classroom management

    Presentation of the conference. This videoconference focuses on classroommanagement from the perspective of spatial management. It starts from three previous

    concepts: the school of multiple options, the pedagogy of the election andconstructivism of learning, and addresses to seek an answer to a key question: Howcan the teacher determine which is the most appropriate space management of theirclassroom for each teaching situation?

    This presentation discusses and contrasts the traditional management and contingentand flexible management of the classroom space, using graphics and photographicsupport. It addresses the three existing criteria for the management of space inschools: the self-efficient classroom, the departmentalization and the typology of theactivities to be performed.It also examines and contrasts the two types of schoolbuilding design (the predetermined design in classrooms and the open space design),also using graphics support. To this a brief analysis with photographic support of three

    innovative school buildings is added.

    In this context, we analyze the reasons for the survival of building design

    compartmentalized in school classroom and highlights the need for teachers to

    manage their classroom space as subspaces that encourage the work of students in

    the multiple options school and, at the same time, so that it facilitates the emergency

    of the new type of classroom, that operates within the school and the virtual space. For

    these reasons, furniture can play the role of redistributive element of classroom space.

    These new approaches make necessary the reengineering of the processes formanaging classroom space by teachers. And this reengineering requires the availability

    of having the instruments for observation and analysis of the use of classroom space.In this videoconference one of these instruments is shown (a range of observation) andalso a set of guidelines for teacher reflection is provided, in order to carry out thereengineering of their classroom space, making the changes that are precise.

    The videoconference ends by emphasizing that the management of the classroomspace should be a daily educational area for experimentation for teachers.
