What are Tembo Trunks?Tembo Trunks are the !rst collapsible earbud speakers designed for the iPod shuf"e, iPod nano, and iPod classic (to be used with standard Apple earbuds).

A new way to share your tunes. An ancient method of ampli!cation with a modern twist. Using Horn Acoustics, Tembo Trunks amplify the music from your iPod’s earbuds to 80dB of clarity-enhanced Stereo Sound (3x the sound). The volume from Tembo Trunks is suf!cient for lots of situations. Don’t expect to bust an eardrum or feel the ground shake when you’re playing your music – that’s kinda the point. Tembo Trunks are ideal when you want to share music in a casual setting (traveling, camping, beside the bed, in your hotel room, in the of!ce, by the pool etc.).

Virtually indestructible. Tembo Trunks are 100% Waterproof, Shockproof, and Dustproof. With no moving parts or electronic components to fail on you, Tembo Trunks will keep working whenever and wherever you’re sharing your tunes. Made from high-grade silicone rubber, Tembo Trunks are also light, !exible, stackable, washable and can withstand extreme temperatures (-50°C to +150°C/ -58°F to 302°F) – the perfect travel companion.

Off the grid. Tembo Trunks don’t use batteries or drain power like external speakers or docking stations. This means that you can play music for longer. By using Tembo Trunks you will get much more battery life from your device than you would from your internal speaker (with the added bene!t of ampli!ed, clearer, stereo sound). With no cables, chargers or converters, Tembo Trunks will amplify your music anywhere and anytime (indoors or outdoors). All you need is an iPod / iPhone and the earbuds that came with it.

Sustainable sound. Tembo Trunks are the speakers that aren’t speakers. Regular speakers, like most other electronic products, are comprised of numerous parts. Often this includes damaging metals, toxins, glues, and batteries. Tembo Trunks are made from one material (100% non oil-based, high-grade silicone rubber), require no assembly and are designed to last. We don’t claim to have designed the greenest product ever, but as far as sustainability goes we believe Tembo Trunks are a better alternative to regular speakers.

AMPLIFICATION

Tembo Trunks will provide enough sound for consumers that purchase the product with intent to use them as described. However, some users may unreasonably expect the volume capabilities of Tembo Trunks to be higher. For these consumers, the sound output may be insuf!cient. In order to see that Tembo Trunks are meeting the intended consumer’s expectations (and the intended consumer for that matter), it is important to highlight the product features without overstating the ampli!cation capabilities.

Tembo Trunks WILL:

1. Provide ampli!ed stereo sound (up to 80dB; 3 x the sound) with increased clarity for sharing music in casual situations.2. Never require power, batteries, cables or replacement components.3. Not break if they are dropped, thrown, buried in dirt, placed in extreme heat, or submersed in water.4. Work with any device that accepts Apple’s standard earbuds.5. Provide a more sustainable method to share music.

Tembo Trunks WILL NOT:

1. Act as a home-stereo system replacement or blast louder music over high volume ambient noise (such as a party, café, restaurant, function, festival, outdoors in wild or noisy weather, outdoors in crowded areas, markets, etc.). Tembo Trunks were never designed for these types of environments. If you need to make a lot of noise, we suggest that you use more conventional powered speakers.

Can I use in-ear Earbuds?No, please use the earbuds that came with your Apple device.

What iPod’s are compatible?Many generations of iPods are compatible with Tembo Trunks - we recommend using your ‘Trunks with your iPod classic, iPod nano, and iPod shuf"e.

Can I use my mp3 player with Tembo Trunks?Yes, you can use any portable media device with a 3.5mm audio jack although Tembo Trunks were designed for standard apple earbuds so it is essential you have those.

I already have an internal Speaker on my device - will Tembo Trunks be better?Tembo Trunks will provide clarity-enhanced stereo sound up to 80dB. This will be louder than internal speakers on some devices whilst producing similiar loudness when compared with other devices. In most cases, the sound quality from Tembo Trunks will be superior.The ‘Trunks were originally designed for the iPod – if you are only looking to use them with an iPhone you may !nd comparable loudness through the iPhone’s internal speaker (albeit with lower quality sound and with battery drain 3-4 times faster).

How do I care for my Tembo Trunks?Your Tembo Trunks are only as good as the device used to play the music. Always follow your device’s instructions when using Tembo Trunks. Remember to turn down the volume on your device when you have !nished using Tembo Trunks. If the product gets dirty, clean with water.

What earbuds can I use?Tembo Trunks were designed for Apple earbuds (the ones you get with your device). Tembo Trunks are not compatible with in ear earbuds. Although Tembo Trunks can !t some other types of earbuds we recommend using your apple earbuds.

Travelling through Africa, we had music on iPods but no way to share the music. We needed something that was small, light, could be taken with us easily, and didn’t require any power. An idea sparked when traveling soon became a fun project. Our goal was to create a product that was thoughtfully designed, sustainable, and built from superior materials. We are really happy with the quality, ease of use, and functionality of Tembo Trunks. Our 1501 backers on Kickstarter helped us raise funds to create production tooling and make Tembo Trunks a reality and available for those who want to share their music in this unique way.
