define yourself

accept no one’s definition of your life

Thou shall be Thyself

Good Manners begin with a good sense of self. Unless you are true to yourself, you can never be true to others.

Most people are living their life far below its full potential, believing they must settle for the cards that fate has dealt them.

Help re-evaluate your life and get really clear about what you want for your future and formulate some goals.

The goals can be in any area of life including career, relationships, personal finance or just general motivation.

Always keep yourself motivated and on track providing positive feedback and encouragement.

Get yourself in to the habit of positive thinking, breaking free of those self-livings doubts.

Boost your confidence as you acquire new skills, together with applying them.

Thou Shall Say “Thank You”Thou Shall Say “Thank You”

Thanking Others is a way of praising them and is one of the keys to having good manners. Send thank - you notes whenever someone does something nice for you, or telephone to express your gratitude.

It a friend or parent or cousin took you out for your birthday and gave you a small present, simple "Thank You" is not enough.

A friend who has been Thoughtful, deserves more than just the quickest possible form of reply.

Putting pen to paper is the best way to show you truly appreciate the gift and the gesture. You might use e-mail to thank someone for a small favour, it really carries weight and will help build lasting relationships.

Don't forget ‘Please', "Excuse Me" And “You Are Welcome" which are other marks of good manners.

Thou Shall Give ComplimentsThou Shall Give Compliments

respectgive it …..to get it!

A fundamental rule of good manners is to give. Think about what you can give to others, and remember that the most precious gifts cost nothing.

When you meet someone, you can always think of a genuine compliment to give.

"Hello" or "How are you" is not enough. you can also give your undivided attention and interest to others.

You can be generous with words of praise, warm greetings, Sympathy, love or others good news.

The first 12 words you speak should include some forms of thanks, use the other person's name in those 12 words if possible.

Most of us like it and pay attention when we hear our name and enjoy the personal recognition regardless of how small.

Page 12: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Thou Shall Not Be Boastful, Arrogant or Loud.Thou Shall Not Be Boastful, Arrogant or Loud. Always exercise restraint and good taste. Your

voice, your behavior and even your clothing should reflect unstated elegance.

The first 12 inches from your head down should be impeccably groomed. Your hair, collar, tie ,and other accessories should be a reflection of the high quality person that you are.

Only a small person brags about accomplishments, a well mannered person has no need for self advertisement.

Let your deeds speak for themselves. Speak softly and with clear diction. The Last 12 inches from the floor to midcalf should also be impeccable as well your shoes should be polished. Your socks should blend with your outfit, not distract from it.

It has been said that if you want to know, a person is well dressed, you should look down.

Page 13: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Every man is the

Architect of his own

Character.

Page 14: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Thou Shall listen beforeThou Shall listen before Speaking Speaking Respect for others is a prerequisite of

good manners. Listening to others is a way to show respect.

There is no worse company than a person that does not listen.

Be genuinely interested in others, learn their names and encourage them to talk.

Never interrupt. Look them in the eye and listen carefully. The listener learns and thereby gains. Listening is as important as speaking when communicating.

Next the ability to communicate well is very important in making a first impression. Be convincing as well as eloquent when speaking to people. Ask questions and listen to what others say.

Page 15: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Thou Shall Speak with Kindness and CautionThou Shall Speak with Kindness and Caution

Before speaking to others, consider what effect your words will have. Pause and weigh your words carefully and say them with a quality of softness.

A good impression can take seconds to make, last for years.

You may have spent thousands of rupees on your education, your wardrobe may be impeccable. These things are important but not all it takes.

Watch your language, always be sure to choose your words very carefully.

A slip of tongue can inflict needless hurt.

Also remember the language of the body. Your posture and your mannerisms is as important as the language of words.

Page 16: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar
Page 17: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Thou Shall Not Criticize or ComplainThou Shall Not Criticize or Complain A person with good manners is above criticizing

others or complaining about circumstances.

Negativity in any form is to be avoided.

It sometimes you hear gossip, don't join in, be

indifferent to it.

If you disagree with others, do so respectfully.

Don't verbally attack or condemn them. You

may win the argument but lose a valued friend.

Watch your language. It is very easy to get lazy

with language and word usage. Using sloppy

words and sarcastic comments will hurt others.

See the positive side of the person and things.

Criticizing will even make the things worse.

Thou Shall Be PunctualThou Shall Be Punctual

Appreciate the value of time, yours and others. If you make an appointment, arrive on time. If you must be late, call first.

Punctuality is very important in day to day life. It makes the whole system organised. Whether it is school, home, office or any business establishment. It makes the system run smoothly.

Never be late in school or in any professional appointments. Never arrive early for a social engagement or gathering, your host may still be getting dressed.

Don't even over stay, lingering good byes merely cause frustration and can ruin an otherwise good time. A quick simple exit at the proper time is usually appreciated.

Page 21: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Thou Shall Not Embarrass OthersThou Shall Not Embarrass Others Treat Others as you would you like to be treated, and think of

how you can put them at ease.

The feeling of other people can be as fragile as fine crystal.

Feelings of others people should always be taken care of. Never demean anyone with rude remarks and jokes or an unwelcome nickname.

It will certainly hurt their feelings and make them feel low in a public place.

Be considerate in conversation, never ask embarrassing Questions such as how much was paid for a new item or matter of heart. It is always good manners to think of others first.

Make other people comfortable in your company. Take care of their esteem and always put yourself in that situation before putting others in that embarrassing situation.

Thou Shall Act And Look Your BestThou Shall Act And Look Your Best

A gracious friend is never ruffled. Always act your best with courtesy and politeness.

Master self control and have empathy for others.

Each day dress as if it were your only chance to shine.

A Smile should top your List of accessories.

Your School, Your Home and Workplace should reflect your best. They should be tidy, neat and well organised.

The answer is:

Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic... because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you, the ones you have in your heart!

Always think of the power words have. Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!

Page 37: Ten Commandment by Ms. S. Kumar

Therefore always be Positive!

 and

Be DEAF when people tell YOU that YOU cannot fulfill YOUR DREAMS!
