Cloud surveillance, also called video surveillance as

a service (VSaaS), is the next generation video

surveillance to manage your full surveillance system

from the cloud. It originates from the combination

of cloud computing and surveillance, whereas cloud

computing is the use of computing resources

(hardware and software) that are delivered as a

service over a network (typically the Internet)*, and

surveillance is the monitoring of the behavior,

‘Cloud surveillance saves you money, loads of money’.

Cloud surveillance has just as any other cloud solution a positive impact on your business spending,

in this specific case your video security spending. First of all there is direct cost savings associated

with cloud surveillance. Think about cost savings you can realize on power consumption for local

recording devices in your business, or cost savings associated with the installation money spend to

install and configure your NVR or DVR. Depending on the size of your surveillance system and the

country you’re living in only these two components will save your business an amount of several

hundred to thousands of Euros over the lifespan of your surveillance system.

Of course these direct cost savings are helpful but they are not the main costs savings we’re looking

for. The indirect costs savings are much more sustainable and much more valuable for your business.

The most valuable cost saver of cloud surveillance is the fact that all your surveillance is centralized

and can be accessed 24/7 remotely anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Like every SaaS solution it brings

you flexibility, scalability and thus many cost savings because the solution will always perfectly fit

your business size. But there are many more cost saving activities related to centralized video

surveillance software (VSaaS), like:

- No duplication of hardware and software – Most NVRs or DVRs are minimum 4-channel

while you business might only need 2 cameras. Suppose your business exists of 20 sites, then

you’re paying for 40 extra which are not used. Both hardware and software are duplicated

and will not be compensated by the manufacturer. Based on an average channel price of €

The idea of cost saving is that it leads to an improved ROI (Return on Investment) of your camera

surveillance system in general. Although some criticasters might say some local video surveillance

solutions have a better ROI due to the fact they offer more value for money in terms of Terabytes of

storage, higher FPS (frames per second) or higher resolution, we’re convinced that most (small)

businesses do not need the (video) specifications that are offered by a DVR or NVR. Many cloud

surveillance platforms can already handle 5-10 fps HD 720p video quality and 7 to 30 days cloud

storage easily, which is more than an average (small) business would need.

Further cloud surveillance is nothing more than united consumer buying for video security. And there

is no real alternative for united consumer buying. Buying together makes things cheaper so moving

to cloud surveillance will be beneficial for your bank account, that’s for sure.

Of course cloud surveillance does not only save costs but it also asks you to invest, mainly in high

bandwidth and stable internet connections. But is this not what your business should have anyway?

So we see this as logical investments that are needed for most businesses and even if you need to
