November 2010
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new look newsletter! We hope the better design and pictures help you see all the events that are going on at your Tennis Club, like the fantastic tennis social in Leamington Spa last month (pictured right). This month’s newsletter has all the Christmas goings on around the club as well as the latest from our teams and Academy.

Tennis Club Social Night
With the new term well underway, we thought it a great idea to have a tennis club night out. On Friday the 29th October everyone started with two hours tennis at club night which was moved forward to an earlier time of 5:30. It was a fantastic way to build up everyone’s appetite for the meal that would follow. The evening then moved onto Le Bistro Pierre in Leamington Spa. There was an amazing turnout of 35 people from the club and coaching programme along with club coaches John, Matt and Will. A lovely meal was then finished off with drinks in local bar Voodoo and a dance in Evolve nightclub. A great evening that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Ambitious plans for the Performance Programme
With the current performance
programme going so well, coaches
Matt, Kevin, John and Will are looking to how we can continue
to further develop the children.
One plan for the future is to
organise a trip abroad to Europe and
the red clay with a possible destination of SOTO tennis academy in Spain. It
would be a great opportunity for the
children to learn to play on clay with a
slower bouncing surface, working on the
physical and mental aspects of their game. We hope to run our first trip as
soon as February with a second trip in
Easter.
Its been a great month for our juniors,
with many of them winning local
titles. Lizzie Allwood (pictured above) won her first full ball
competition at the Mark
Wormleighton Trophy. Fantastic
effort considering it was her first full
ball tournament. And matching this success, she also went on to claim a
second title when she won a grade 4
event in Lincolnshire. A truly exceptional
performance from Lizzie this month and
shows that her hard work is paying off. Congratulations Lizzie from us all at the
centre.

JUNIOR ACADEMY SUCCESS More titles for
Centres Juniors:

Junior Success:Continuing Lizzie’s
success its also been a
great month for several of the other academy
players.
Zoe Douglas, who
travels all the way from
Cambridge to train at the centre, was another star
performer this month
winning a Grade 4
under-16 event in
Nottingham and finishing runner up at a Grade 3
regional tour at Kings
Park.
Ben Moore, again who
travels from Leicester most evenings to train with
us at the centre, had a
fantastic month. Ben
managed to win 3 events
this month with victories at Grade 4’s in Buckingham
and Derby as well as a
grade 5 title at Rothley. He
also competed
fantastically in the Grade 3 regional tour at Kings Park
where he finished an
incredible 3rd place.
Closer to home, Tommy
Craig picked up 2 titles at the War Memorial Park,
Coventry and an under 8
event in Henley in Arden.
Harry Lazell won a Grade 4 event and a
Grade 5 event at the White
Horse Centre, Oxford and
Leamington respectably.
Lauren Gurr, who we featured last week after
her first ever tournament,
continued to improve with
a fantastic victory at the
Grade 4 orange event at Esporta.
And finally, Will Smith
won a Grade 5 mini-orange event at Redditch.
Fantastic performance
from all our academy
players. It is great to see
them all compete and doing well.

Matt To Represent Team UK in Padel Tennis World Cup:
Matt Thomas has been
selected to represent Team
United Kingdom in the Padel
Tennis World Championships in
Mexico. He will fly out on
November 26th for the week
long event where team UK
have been drawn in the same
group stages as Chile, Uruguay
and Switzerland. The top 2
teams will qualify for a place in
the quarter finals against such
teams as Argentina and Spain
who boast the top 5 players in
the world between them.
Padel tennis is a sport that
originated in South America
and is played in a doubles
format on an enclosed court
about half the size of a tennis
court and is a combination of
tennis and squash. The balls
used and scoring are similar to
tennis but the main differences
are the shape of the racket and
that the court has walls so the
ball can be played off the walls
like in squash.
Matt has been playing
Padel since he was 18 when he
worked out in Spain. There is
only one court in the UK which
is in Chelsea, London where
Matt has been training once a
month.
We wish Matt the best of
luck out in Mexico and hope
team UK return home with a
trophy.

Adult Team News:
It has been a busy month for the Centre’s 2 mixed doubles teams, including a grudge match between the first and seconds. The first team started the month against last year’s relegated side Lutterworth, in a very close encounter which the team narrowly lost 5-3. Then came the big encounter of the month when they met the 2nd team.It was a great occasion when for the first time our Centre has had 2 teams compete against each other. On this occasion the first’s (Saykin/David, Rebecca/James) lived up to their top billing with an 8-0 victory over the seconds (Andrew/Gemma, Daniel/Saima).However, it hasn't been all gloom for the seconds this month as, when they met Offchurch, they played their best tennis on a blustery cold evening to win their first match of the season 7-1. After the match, captain Daniel Connolly quoted “It was great to win this match. They beat us in the summer and this victory shows how much we have improved”.
Singles ladder:
It has been great seeing so many matches taking place from the singles ladder. The score sheets are looking a lot brighter now with scores appearing in all the boxes. The talk around the centre of all the matches and how people are planning to play against certain people has been fantastic to hear. Please remember you have until the 19th December to finish all your matches and put your scores on the board. The new sign-up sheet for the January ladder will be placed up on the notice board soon. Fancy Playing Tennis In The Sun?
As some of you are aware,
last year inspire2coach joined
forces with Nigel Hunter tennis
holidays to offer specialised
tennis holidays for our players
in the clubs. The idea is to
give everyone a chance to
enjoy a tennis break away in
the sun under the guidance of
your very own coach.
The offer is to organise 2
trips a year to sunny Carveiro
in the Algarve region of
Portugal. Here we have idyllic
accommodation near the
beach and membership to the
local tennis club which boasts
2 clay courts, 6 acrylic, and 2
astroturf courts as well as
swimming pool, gym and club
house.
Each day will start with a
morning get together and
coffee, followed by
3 hours coaching.
The afternoons are kept
free for people to make
their own plans . We offer trips
to local towns, playing
opportunities on some of the
championship golf courses
nearby or just relax on the
beach. The evenings are
another chance to get together
with everyone for a meal and
drink and share in the stories
from the tennis court that day.
In September we ran our
first trip joining up with another
local club from Birmingham.
This trip proved to be a great
success, with everyone having
a thoroughly great time.
Beechwood member Pete
Mann quoted “Had a fantastic
week, the accommodation was
perfect and the coaching was
first class. I’d been to La
Manga in the past, but this trip
was a lot more personal as the
coaches knew me already”.
We are looking to organise
another trip during Easter 2011
and Nigel will be coming into
the Tennis Centre in the next
couple of weeks to speak to
people about it.
