Remember in Prayer As members of the parish faith community, it is our respon‐sibility to remember both in concrete and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We experience many blessings because of their remembering us. And so...please re‐member in your prayers:

A Prayer for the Armed Forces Almighty God, stretch forth Your mighty arm to strengthen and protect the men and women of our Armed Forces. As they face the myriad of challenges and decisions that each
day is destined to bring, may they be anchored by their faith, protected by Your presence and comforted by the knowledge that they are loved by You and by this community of faith. Grant that, meeting danger with courage, and all occasions with discipline loyalty, they may truly serve the cause of justice and peace to the honor of your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Daniel Guziec; SPC Jeffrey Foerster

Thank you!

COR’S CORNER
Our Food Pantry is open once a week, every Monday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM in the convent building. Provides food emergencies to all
families in need.
“And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’” LUKE 7:13 This verse is a great reminder that the Stewardship lifestyle is one of service, putting God first and to “love one an‐other.” Unfortunately today, many people have “passion” for activities they enjoy ‐ their job and off‐work activities. Many times our “passion” to excel is at the expense of someone else. Maybe we need to focus on a little less pas‐sion for our individual concerns and a lot more compassion for others.

SUNDAY MASS OBLIGATION The Words of the Saints The perfect answer to the “do what you feel like doing” mentality of modern society is to seek inspiration in the words of the saints, who un‐derstood the importance of holy Mass. For the most part, they too lived in societies where materialism was a distraction to those around them. Yet these saints had a love for God that helped them to overcome temptations, and even their own past actions, to be more fully de‐voted to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The writings of the saints would be a good place to begin to find instruc‐tional and inspirational words of those holy people who lived before us. The Intention of the Faithful It is important to note that one’s will is also factor here. The church acknowledges a difference between missing Mass for a grave reason or for something over which you had no control, and the act of willfully choosing not to go to Mass. The former is not a mortal sin, the latter is. In the Apostolic letter Dies Domini, Pope John Paul II in‐structed those who are prevented from participating in the Mass in the following way: Finally, the faithful who, because of sickness, disability or some other serious cause, are prevented from taking part, should as best they can unite themselves with the celebration of Sunday Mass from afar, preferably by means of the readings and prayers for that day from the Missal, as well as through their desire for the Eucharist. (Dies Domini, Pope John Paul II) There are several books available to help one under‐stand the Mass more fully and deepen their love for the celebration. Loving the Holy Mass by Edward D. Maris‐tany is a great place to start and If Your Mind Wanders at Mass by Dr Thomas Howard and Heart of the Mass are great resources for any Catholic.

Ferdynanda na projekcje filmu Grzegorza Kasperka pt. "Obywatel ziemski", który jest relacją syna Andrzeja Pileckiego opowiadającą tragiczne losy jego ojca.
Film poświęcony wybitnej postaci w najnowszej historii Polski ‐ Witoldowi Pileckiemu. W momencie wybuchu II wojny Witold Pilecki został zmobilizowany i walczył do 17 października 1939, po czym przeszedł do konspiracji. Przedostał się do Warszawy, gdzie współtworzył Tajną Armię Polską. W 1940 roku dostał się do obozu w Auschwitz i tam organizował konspirację. Po ucieczce z obozu wziął udział w Powstaniu Warszawskim. Początkowo walczył jako zwykły strzelec w kompanii "Warszawianka", później dowodził jednym z oddziałów zgrupowania Chrobry II, w tzw. Reducie Witolda. Po wojnie został aresztowany i oskarżony o szpiegostwo. Skazano go na wyrok śmierci, który wykonano. 30 lipca 2006 r., przy okazji obchodów 62. rocznicy wybuchu Powstania Warszawskiego, prezydent Polski Lech Kaczyński przyznał Witoldowi Pileckiemu pośmiertnie Order Orła Białego.

. Vanity plates are cool. Not cool enough for me to get one since they carry an upcharge in the state of Illinois, but still cool. When I bought my folks old VW beetle as my college wheels long ago, the plate letters were MH. Dad said it was now “My Hot Rod.” Yeah, right. And yet I often referred to the car as such back then. Heck, I had a vanity plate before Illinois even offered them. The letters on my current plate are JR, a moniker some high school buddies pinned on me long before the TV series made JR Ewing a household name. So it’s my second vanity plate of sorts, I guess. And unless Illinois eliminates the upcharge‐‐which is unlikely, given the state of the state‐‐it will be my last.
Nonetheless, I really enjoy seeing vanity plates on the highway or in the neighborhood because I really enjoy thinking of the story behind the letters that tell in part the drivers’ messages. I’ve seen many that intrigued me in the moment but have fallen away from memory. Some have staying power, though. One does, anyway. I saw it on Foster Avenue years ago and it’s been in my mind’s eye ever since. As the car blew past me, the plate (MOUSSE ) caught my attention, and, thinking either pastry chef or salon owner, I really wanted to see the driver. I lost the car in traf‐fic, but the next light was in my favor so my curiosity was sated. Let’s just say the woman had hair.
And I saw a vanity plate in a local parking lot just a couple of days ago that may stick with me for years as well. The driver was nowhere in sight, but the plate challenged me because of the mul‐
tiple interpretations it offered. LV NOW. My first thought was Live Now. You know. “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,” to quote Robert Herrick. Then I thought Love Now, which can be seen as a variation of my first interpretation. Then I thought Leave now. A message to rude tailgaters, perhaps? And when I asked my wife for her interpretive ideas as we were about to hear the grand prize winner of a parish school fundraising raffle announced, she sug‐gested, “Las Vegas now?” We didn’t win, by the way.
Other than the Las Vegas connection, I think all of the other possibilities come into play with today’s Scripture passages. In the first reading from Kings, Elijah calls upon God to return the life breath to a widow’s son, and the son is revived. Similarly in the Gospel, Jesus, moved with pity for a another widow who had just lost her son, touches the coffin and says, “Young man, I tell you, arise.” And the young man does. Live Now. And in both instances, remember that these women had already lost their husbands. Life was especially hard in those times for women alone in the world, so in both instances, too, then, God’s compassion‐‐beyond God’s power‐‐is on display. Love Now. And in the second reading, Paul speaks of how he persecuted Christ’s followers before becoming not only one of them, but also a powerful voice on their behalf. Often, we have to leave our old selves behind (Leave Now) before we can become the persons we are called to be. Ecclesiastes tells us that all things are vanity. Maybe. But sometimes, vanity‐‐at least a vanity plate‐‐can teach us a thing or two.
