Our Vision and Mission Statement
guides our pastoral planning...
Established in 1922, the parish family of St. John
the Baptist Church welcomes and invites all people to our com-
munity, especially those in need. Guided by the Holy Spirit we are
sustained by the Sunday Eucharist, the Word of God, and the
Sacraments. All are encouraged to share their time, talent and
treasure as we grow in love through our Catholic faith and the life,
death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Parish Ministry Leaders have met with the Pastoral Council to develop a Parish Guide to ministries and groups. Leaders are working on photographs as part of the Guide, which we hope to have ready for the Celebration of Ministries on October 14th. As the project develops, we will “spotlight” a parish ministry or group.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God from the ambo at Sunday
and weekday Masses and other liturgical celebrations. Good
readers are those with a clear speaking voice, a general and
prayerful understanding of the Scriptures. Lectors are
required on a rotating basis throughout the year. Formal
training is available.

Please consider “automated giving” as you reflect on support of
our parish family! The fruitful ministries at our parish are examples of how
many of you have answered, and continue to answer, that
call. To ensure such work can continue requires not only
gifts of time, but also of financial help. I ask you to prayer-
fully consider supporting our parish with electronic dona-
tions through Faith Direct. You can find paper enrollment
forms in the parish office, or you can sign up online at
www.faithdirect.net by using our church code, NY67.

To parents of young children:
May we suggest….RELAX! God put the wiggle in children.
Don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house. All are welcome!
Sit towards the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what
is going on at the altar. They tire of seeing the backs of others!
Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and actions
of the priest, choir, and other ministries. Help them find the hymns and prayers in the hymnals and booklets.
Sing the hymns, participate in the liturgy and pray. Children learn about worship and liturgical behavior by copying you.
If you have to leave Mass with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back.
As Jesus said, “Let the children come to me…”
Remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to the church, to God and to one another. Let them know that they are at home in his house of worship.
To the members of our parish: The presence of children is a gift to the church
and a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome our children
and give a smile of encouragement to their parents.
