From the Principal
On behalf of all of our staff here at Exeter High School, I would like
to extend our best wishes to all of our students and their families
over the upcoming Easter break. I would also like to thank the
amazing staff here at Exeter High for their tremendous contributions during the
first term of 2018 and hope they have a wonderful break and have some time to
relax and enjoy time with their families.
Last week saw a group of Grade 9 students embark on a wonderful opportunity
of visiting Canberra. I would like to convey my appreciation to the teachers
Mr Lendvay and Miss Cartledge for organising and attending the trip. These
excursions are fantastic for our students to take part in, however, they would not
be possible without such dedicated staff as we have here at Exeter. Once again,
our students represented our school with pride and their behaviour was of an
exceptional standard.
Our Grade 7 and 8 students are currently being given the opportunity to
nominate themselves for their Grade’s Student Leadership Council. I recently
listened to the Grade 8 candidates give their speeches to their peers and was so
impressed with both the confidence shown by the nominees but also the respect
shown by the audience. We are very fortunate to have so many aspiring leaders
within our student population.
Last week, we received a call from the local Veterinary surgery. Three of our
students, Jobi Lee, Brock Bates and Blake Bates found a wallet in the main street
and took the time to go into the surgery to see if the owner was from there. The
local police became involved in returning the wallet to its owner and the police
officer was also full of praise for the maturity and honesty shown by these three
boys. It’s so wonderful to see that the high expectations we have of our students
upholding the school’s values of maturity and respect translate into everyday life. Mr Benjamin Frerk

On Monday 19th of March, a group of twenty two students
from Grade 9, along with Miss Cartledge, Mr Lendvay and the school’s Chaplin Robin, embarked on their journey to our nation’s capital. All students were up bright and early with less than fresh faces to be at the Launceston Airport by 5:30am, however some people (Miss Cartledge and Mr Lendvay) had difficulty finding the airport…
Once everyone had found their way and we were ready to board, anxiety levels were high, especially for our first time fliers (Connor Betts). Just over an hour later, we’d arrived in Melbourne Airport, which was filled with many Krispy Kreme’s and over priced cookies. However it wasn’t long until we were back on our second plane and finally arrived at our destination.
Although everyone’s faces were filled with disgust once finding out they weren’t going to their cabins to sleep, everyone ventured on to their first stop; lunch. The day was then filled with many tours and activities such as; a tour of the museum of Australian Democracy, a trip up Mount Ainslie, a tour of Old Parliament House and then a tour of Parliament House before heading to our accommodation. Once everyone was settled into their cabins and had had dinner, everyone’s blood was pumping before heading off to laser tag. We were split into teams to compete and after an hour of intense yelling and far too many people tripping over, the red team came home with an obvious victory with Mr Lendvay scoring big.
Inter-High Diving Carnival Results Overall Exeter finished in 3rd place.
The following students finished in the top three
for their grade.
7 Girls Chelsea Wynne-Allen
8 Boys Liam Older
10 Boys Ned Whiting
All members of the team are to be congratulated
for an outstanding effort.
The next morning, the students awoke at 6am to meet the teachers at breakfast by 7am, and it was clear none of them were morning people. At 8:30am they were met by Ray the ambitious bus driver taking on the group. The next few days started off just like this one, with Ray taking them all through the nation’s capital on many guided tours.
Over the course of the week there were many chips devoured by hungry students and memorable moments made. Handstand competitions occurred to pass time, with Robin taking out first place and putting Mr Lendvay to shame.
During the trip the students tested their strength at indoor rock climbing, their not so great drawing skills at the National Portrait Gallery and their patience with the many late nights and early mornings, proving they don’t function so great on lack of sleep, along with developing their understanding behind our country’s capital and Australian history.
The hardest morning was certainly on the 23rd
, where everyone was awake by 2am to leave the accommodation by 4am, to be at the airport on time. On this trip the group learnt a lot more about themselves and each other and grew stronger friendships with people they never thought they would.

written application, these students presented a short
speech to their peers and were successfully voted in via
a democratic process. We look forward to their ideas,
