The demands of work and assisting children with their schoolwork, while keeping everyone at home happy, calm and on speaking terms, has been overwhelming. Many of our teachers are in the same situation, including me. The bad news is that it will probably continue well into next term. While there are still no plans to close the school, it looks likely that we will be in a similar situation for most of Term 2. The good news is that one day children will return to school. The next unit of work will be available for pick at the school on Tuesday, 28 April (first day of Term 2). This will be another two weeks of work similar to what has already been supplied. After that, most classes will move to a more online approach to learning. This does bring challenges. Last week I sent out a text message asking for feedback on the units of work and seeking information about the availability of technology and the internet at home. From that it seems that most families have good access to the internet and a computer or device. For those that don’t, we will be providing solutions, including borrowing laptops from the school that have internet capabilities. If you didn’t respond to the survey and require technology to access the internet, then please call the school as soon as possible. Communicating with the school The school will be communicating with families via the following means: Newsletter for whole school information, awards and photos Notes for specific purposes Text message for emergencies or urgent information (non-reply service) Facebook good news stories Phone calls specific one-to-one information. Parents can continue to contact the school via the phone or email. Communicating with teachers Teachers will have been in contact with all families by now. They are using a variety of methods including, Class Dojo, text message, MS Teams, Google Classroom and Facebook. Please call the school, if you are having difficulty contacting your child’s teacher. It is important for you and your child to remember that teachers will be communicating with many other families, so your communications should be important and short. You may also need to remind your child to be patient when waiting for support or feedback. Enjoy the holidays. If nothing else, they will be memorable. TERM 1 WEEK 11 Wednesday 8 April 2020

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Learning from home

I understand that it has been a challenging time for parents at home with their children. The demands of work and assisting children with their schoolwork, while keeping everyone at home happy, calm and on speaking terms, has been overwhelming. Many of our teachers are in the same situation, including me.

The bad news is that it will probably continue well

into next term. While there are still no plans to close

the school, it looks likely that we will be in a similar

situation for most of Term 2. The good news is that

one day children will return to school.

The next unit of work will be available for pick at the

school on Tuesday, 28 April (first day of Term 2).

This will be another two weeks of work similar to

what has already been supplied.

After that, most classes will move to a more online

approach to learning. This does bring challenges.

Last week I sent out a text message asking for

feedback on the units of work and seeking

information about the availability of technology and

the internet at home. From that it seems that most

families have good access to the internet and a

computer or device. For those that don’t, we will be

providing solutions, including borrowing laptops

from the school that have internet capabilities.

If you didn’t respond to the survey and require

technology to access the internet, then please call

the school as soon as possible.

Communicating with the school

The school will be communicating with families via the following means:

• Newsletter – for whole school information,

awards and photos

• Notes – for specific purposes

• Text message – for emergencies or urgent

information (non-reply service)

• Facebook – good news stories

• Phone calls – specific one-to-one

information.

Parents can continue to contact the school via the

phone or email.

Communicating with teachers

Teachers will have been in contact with all families

by now. They are using a variety of methods

including, Class Dojo, text message, MS Teams,

Google Classroom and Facebook.

Please call the school, if you are having difficulty

contacting your child’s teacher.

It is important for you and your child to remember

that teachers will be communicating with many

other families, so your communications should be

important and short. You may also need to remind

your child to be patient when waiting for support or

feedback.

Enjoy the holidays. If nothing else, they will be

memorable. Remember to be patient, be kind and

get some time to yourself.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Name: Melissa Petersen School Position: Classroom Teacher (of the best class K Blue!) Favourite movie: Pride and Prejudice or Anne of Green Gables or any romcom – I’m not very good at choosing one. Definitely no horror or anything supernatural or time travel – it hurts my brain. Born in: Perth Favourite phone app: Facetime – so I can see my beautiful

grown up children

An embarrassing moment was: Talking to someone only to realise they were a statue Naughtiest thing you’ve done: I stole a freddo frog when I was five – actually I didn’t steal it because I knew my sister would have to pay for it. I ate it before she could make me take it back and then I felt sick. I didn’t eat freddo’s for a long time. If you could change 1 thing in our world, what would it be: I would remove the fear of change Why did you become a teacher: It is the best job in the world and I absolutely love it.
