Principal’s Report – Mr Kerry Kurtz Mobile Dental Van
I was informed this week that the Mobile Dental Van will be arriving at our
school next Monday 13 March. It was to arrive this week but there was a late
influx of students wanting to access the van at the school where the van was
last week, and needed to remain this week - hence the delay.
There is still time to get your application form in for the dental van. Contact the
office if you need another form. We have had an excellent response so far.

The Leader in Me
“Put First Things First” is again the habit that we learnt
about this week. The 7 Habits language for this habit is…..
I spend my time on things that are most important.
This means I say no to things I know I should not do.
I set priorities, make a schedule and follow my plan.
I am disciplined and organised.
In the next few weeks classes will have finalised their “CLASS
MISSION STATEMENT” and have it displayed in their room. I will publish these over the next few weeks.
Some classes are starting to advertise leadership positions for students to apply for. A leadership application
might look something like this….
Student Name………………………………… Year…………………. Teacher……………………………….
Position you are applying for (eg Road Safety Officer)……………………………………….
Why you are interested in this role ?……………………………………………………………………….
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
How I could contribute to the school in this role ?……………………………………………….
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Student signature……………………………………..Parent signature…………………………………...
Thumbs-Up Rewards Every day in our school, staff are constantly looking and recognising students who
are following our CARES values. These students who are recognised are given a
Thumbs-Up to be placed in our PBL box.
Every Monday morning at assembly, our PBL Officers randomly pick six Thumbs-up
out of our box. These students are then able to spin the PBL Rewards Wheel.
Congratulations to the following students who were able to spin the wheel this week.

CAPERS This year CAPERS will commence on the week of 30 October to the 4 November 2017.
Quirindi Public School has always chosen to participate in CAPERS, but the financial and
professional limitations it places on our school is quite substantial.
Approximately $3500 is used to replace staff throughout the week and parents are expected
to pay approximately $60 each child for costume hire and day bus travel. Additional costs
include tickets and private travel for night performances. CAPERS is also the week straight
after our Year 6 return from their Canberra Excursion which is a major cost.
We are asking our school community to help us decide if our school attends. The survey can be
completed on the school app or you may answer the questions below and return to the office
by Thursday 16 March 2017.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/W2ZTTYC
1. Has your child participated in CAPERS before?

2. How would you rate their overall CAPERS experience?

Book Covering
We have a large number of books that need covering for classroom readers. If
you would be interested in helping out to cover some of these books please
contact the office and leave your name and we will organise a selection of
books for you to cover.
The quicker we get these covered the quicker they will get into the classrooms

P&C News Family Fun Day for the Crane family at Quirindi Rugby Club.
This Saturday 11 March we will be assisting with a local school’s cake
stall from 3.00pm to approx. 6.00pm or whenever sold out!
So....... we are asking for donations of cakes, slices and biscuits to sell
on the day. These can be delivered to the Primary School on Friday 10
March from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm or dropped off at the event on the
day. Please remember to include a list of ingredients on your goodies.
Charmiane Frith will be coordinating the stall but we will need some
helpers for her. Please let Jenny Golland (0407 109 300) know if you are available to assist on the day and what
time between 3pm -6 pm you would be able to help. All proceeds from the stall go to the Crane family so it is a
wonderful cause for the P&C to support.
Jenny Golland, President
Year 6 Sport Shirts Soon it will be time to order the Year 6 sport shirts for

volunteers to help me with the sizing of these shirts on
Tuesday 14 March at 2.00pm. If you are able to help
could you please contact me at school.
Thank you, Louise Warmoll

and lots of fun was had.
I would like to thank my parent helpers Jackie Newcombe and Mark

help is greatly appreciated.

Cricket news What a marvellous day we had playing cricket against Timbumburi last Thursday. Timbumburi batted first and
scored 5 for 135.
Wickets went to Logan Quigley, Henry Pursehouse, Jasper Thistle, Roy Peatling and great catches to Benjamin
Slattery-Saunders, Eric Peatling and Keenan Davis.
In reply, Quirindi made a credible 100 runs with contributions from Reilly Gimbert (10), Logan Quigley (7),
Benjamin Slattery-Saunders (5), Jasper Thistle (6) and
Eric Peatling (5).
Swashbuckling contributions from Keenan Davis (22) and
Samuel Widdis (23) gave our team a good foundation for
our innings.
Thank you to John Lobsey and Graham England for
umpiring, Brett Peatling and Charlie Widdis for the
match set up and parents and grandparents for
transporting the children.
We can now put away our cricket whites and polish up our
football boots for our involvement in knockout
competitions in the coming weeks.

School Office
Hours
Office hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm.
2300 School Lunches- Let’s make them Healthy! With so many types of snack foods around and the convenience of pre-packaged foods it is sometimes easier to
give in and let our kids choose their own snacks. However, many of our students have so much food in their lunch
boxes that they are choosing not to eat the healthy options offered and only eating the chips, biscuits, breakfast
bars, fruit bars etc.
Things you need to know:
What is in a balanced lunchbox?
Pack the core 4 + 1 for active kids
Main lunch
Core snack
Piece of fruit (Crunch and Sip program)
Water +1 Extra snack for active kids or those with long bus trips
Add extra core snacks or one small ‘extra’ pre-packaged snack once a week.
Keep “occasional” foods such snack food bars, sweet biscuits, flavoured or coated popcorn and savoury biscuits and
chips out of the lunch box. Although they can offer a practical convenient solution for lunchboxes, they should not
replace the core snack and should be kept for special occasions. Avoid including the ones with added confectionery
and opt for wholegrain varieties packed full of whole foods you can see with your eyes.
Please do your children a favour for life and say “No” to junk food in the lunch box!
If you need assistance supplying a healthy lunch, please contact Mrs Lewis.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Program This week was salad week. The children
harvested tomatoes and rocket from the
garden but due to the extremes of summer
sadly we had to purchase a few vegetables
to make it possible.
The lesson was designed to improve
cutting and food preparation skills,
which are the most challenging things
for novice cooks.
The children also made a basic dressing using vinegar, lemon juice and olive oil with
a few herbs collected from the garden. They then sat down to enjoy their food.
Well done Years 3 and 4. Your skills are improving every week.
