Primary Sport It has been a busy couple of weeks of sport for UCS primary students. Last Wednesday Abby Wason, Molly Bryant, Daniel Potter and Josh Roscarel travelled to Tottenham with Mr Cattle for tennis. They played well, but were unfortunately beaten by a stronger team. We had 12 swimmers representing LLPSSA at the WSSA carnival last Friday. Congratulations Tess Henley, Ashton Ross, Darcy Langham, Tom Roscarel, Luke Cameron, Kadee Gerhard- Scali, Josh Roscarel, Angus Williams, Damian Batty, Daniel Potter, Colby Crofts and Kai Davies for your effort. Many of the students improved their previous times, some by over 10 seconds. On Monday our boys cricket team will be playing Parkes Public School here in Ungarie. Supporters are welcome to come along and watch the game which will begin at 10am. There are two Western Area trials next week. Daniel Potter will be attending the WSSA Basketball trials in Cowra, while Josh Roscarel and Daniel Potter will be trying out for the Western Cricket team in Dubbo. Good luck to all students who will representing UCS in the coming weeks. The West Wyalong AFL/Netball Gala Day will be held on 11th April.

Students will be receiving notes next week. Terrie Payne Primary sport

Secondary News!

Wow, what a busy time this term has become. Currently Year 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 have been working on reading articles on the topic of ‘should Australia get a new flag?’ This has raised great interest in many students and we are working together to write persuasive texts that support their own opinions. On Tuesdays and Thursdays Year 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 also work extensively on their grammar and punctuation skills, which is enabling them to become greater critical thinkers when it comes to literacy. Yr 11 English Studies are busy focussing on the literacy skills and finances required in order to move out of home. Yr 11 Standard English are busy working on their first assessment task; an essay, which is due on Monday, 18/3/2013 Yr 12 English Studies have changed topics and are now studying the wonders of the ‘Open Road’. They are considering the literacy skills required to understand the world of travel. Yr 12 Standard have just completed their Witness assessment task essay, so congratulations to them and we hope your marks are a true reflection of the work you invested. Yr 12 Advanced students are currently studying Kenneth Slessor’s poems ‘Elegy in a Botanic Garden’. They too have an assessment task due in on Monday 18/3/2013

Head Teacher Secondary Studies News This week the first of our parent workshop on Literacy was held. This was a great informative night for all involved. This is the first of a series that we are looking at running throughout the year. The next one is a numeracy night and is being held on the 7th of May at 7.00pm for an hour. These nights are for ALL, there is not a specific primary or secondary focus. So please feel free to come along, to help with catering for supper if you could RSVP your name to the front office prior to the event. Watch this space and throughout the Humbug for further information. Information from the night including the PowerPoint has been placed on the school website. www.ungarie-c.schools.nsw.edu.au Next week trial HSC’s start. I wish our year 12 students all the best and remember, reward comes with effort and you will get out of these exams what you put into them. Positive Relationships, what are you doing at home to help your child develop these? We have been looking at these more closely in 7 – 10 PDH this week. This is an important conversation to have with your children. Talk about real life examples, how you have and continue to develop and maintain positive relationships, the qualities of them and how you have coped when having difficult conversations and the support mechanisms that you have used. These are important skills for our adolescents to continually develop. They will help them make more informed decisions and choices and ideally respond in more appropriate ways when faced with difficult situations. All the Best!! Mr Currey

HPV Vaccination for males 14-15yrs in Year 10 for 2013

Please be advised that, due to the way in which the Australian Government constructed the age eligibility for HPV vaccination for males in 2013, all males who are 14-15years of age, and who are in Year 10 are eligible to receive the free HPV vaccine at their GP during 2013 only. Only Year 9 boys are being vaccinated at schools. If you wish for your son to receive the free HPV vaccinations, while they are in the eligible age cohort they must have commenced the course before they turn 16 years and have completed the 3 dose course before the end of 2013.

It is important when making the GP appointment, the receptionist or nurse is informed of the reason for the visit and sufficient time is allowed (at least three working days) for the vaccine to be ordered and delivered to the GP.

If you would like more information about the HPV Vaccine you can visit the HPV Vaccination website or contact your local Publis Health Unit on 1300 066 055
