GOODBYE MR RUTHERFORD
This Friday we farewell Mr Jim Rutherford. Mr Rutherford will be retiring and moving onto
the next exciting phase of his life. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Rutherford for the
commitment and genuine care for students that he has provided over the last 30 plus years at
EPPS.
A quick calculation shows that approximately 900 EPPS students have been lucky enough
over the years to be taught directly by Mr Rutherford, however I can say with absolute
certainty, having witnessed his care for the students across the school, the number of EPPS
students positively impacted by the work of Mr Rutherford would be thousands. On behalf of
our entire school community, thank you Mr Rutherford and good luck. You will not be
forgotten.
STUDENT REPORTS
Student reports will be sent home with students this Friday. You will also be provided with
information which will explain how to book an interview with your child’s teacher and/or
other teachers who work with your child. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of both
students and teachers; students who have worked so hard for the first semester and our
teachers who do an amazing job of educating our students and who have spent many hours of
their personal time writing comprehensive reports about every child.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to our Goal Ball teams who all did an outstanding job at the All School Goal
Ball Knockout on Friday. Both our Year 3 and senior teams came first and our Year 4 team
came third. What an amazing effort our students did representing EPPS! Max (3W) came
away with the ‘Best Player’ trophy for the Years 2-4 group. Max received this trophy for his
sportsmanship. Well done Max.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Campbell for his commitment towards coaching
the teams. Mr Campbell has given up his own time to share his own expertise to ensure our
students have not only had a fabulous time but have gained amazing skills. I would also like
to thank Mrs Murphy for her support of the Goal Ball teams.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS - 2019
We are now accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2019. If you have a child who will begin
Kindergarten in 2019, please see the school for an enrolment form. If you know of anyone
whose child will be coming to EPPS for Kindergarten in 2019, I would greatly appreciate you
letting them know that they are free to come and pick up an enrolment form as soon as they
are able so their child doesn’t miss out on any of our transition or orientation programs.
MORNING BELL
I am reminding all families that the morning play bell does not ring until 8:35am. Before this
time, there is no supervision of students. I have noted students arriving to school well before
this bell and some are arriving before 8am. Please consider the safety of your child/children
and ensure children are arriving at school from 8:35am. I thank you for your assistance with
this matter.

EDUCATION WEEK
This year our Education Week celebrations will be held on the 8th
August. Included in this
newsletter is an overview of the activities which will begin from 12noon. We will ask our
visitors to enter the school via the North Cola gate (Emerald Street) where we will have
some of our leadership team welcoming our visitors and directing the way. Students will be at
the gate from 11:45am so our visitors can come in, get seated and be ready for our events to
begin at 12noon. We look forward to welcoming family and friends to our school. Please feel
free to bring along a picnic blanket for our picnic lunch out on the oval. The BBQ will be
running hot with the sausage sizzle where you may purchase lunch, or you may bring along
your own lunch. It will be a great afternoon and we hope the weather is kind.
SRC FUNDRAISER
Our SRC did a fantastic job of fundraising money and non—perishable items for Mama
Lana’s. The SRC demonstrate great care and understanding for others and decided to raise
money and goods for those in the community who may not have a home or warm bed to go to
at night. Over $500 was raised and a huge selection of non-perishable goods collected. Thank
you to our SRC, Ms Sweeney and Mrs Hill, our students and our families who supported this
worthy initiative.

NAIDOC CUP – 2018
On Friday 22nd
June, 30 students from Emu Plains Public School participated and enjoyed a
day of sport and craft activities at the NAIDOC Cup.
After a meaningful welcome to country and a smoking ceremony, our senior and junior
primary students played in the Oz Tag competition. These teams entered into the spirit of the
day and improved with each game.
Whilst the Oz Tag games were being played our K-2 students participated and completed
several activities. These included Aboriginal dance, craft and listening to traditional
Aboriginal stories.
We would like to offer our thanks to all the parents / carers and friends who helped and
supported us on the day. It was very much appreciated. Thank you also to Nepean Community
and Neighbourhood Services for organising this wonderful event.
As always our students were wonderfully behaved, polite and they represented our school
admirably and with great pride.
