Principal’s Message Term Two has been a busy term with a focus on providing the best learning
opportunities for our students. As we live in such a rapidly changing world, it is
essential that students take every learning opportunity to build their skills and
understanding so they are able to function and deal in any situation in their
future lives. One of the big changes that has occurred is for today’s students
to build resilience to be able to cope in a range of different situations with a
positive and growth mindset. As a school, we aim to equip our students with
the skills to be able to be life-long learners. To achieve this, learning does not
just happen at school. Much learning will happen in the home and outside of
school. It is essential that today’s parents more than ever, talk to their children
and be involved in their daily lives. As social media and the use of the internet
continues to dominate our daily lives, parents need to check in with their
children’s activities when using social media and the internet. The values of
responsible use begins with parents setting boundaries for use of social media
and the internet at home. Talking to your children to set these boundaries is
essential if there is to be responsible usage of technology. Know what your
children are doing when they have technology time at home. It is also essential
to encourage non-screen time to enjoy the outdoors, exercise and talk face to
face with people. This will help to provide for future ready citizens of tomorrow.
At the end of the school term, Semester One Reports will be ready to provide
parents and students with feedback about their child’s progress during the year
so far. Take note of teacher’s comments, celebrate the success and consider
the suggestions of where your child is heading next with their learning in order
to grow as a learner. The school is working on ways to make information more
accessible through the student portal. Already a number of parents have taken
up this service of being able to access information through the parent portal.
Over the next six months we will also be rolling out a student portal for our
students to access information about their education and about the school.
More information will be provided from the school about this during the next
semester.
Enjoy reading the newsletter that provides a showcase of some of the things
that have been happening in our school.

TERM 2 JUNE 2019
Deputy Principal’s Report
Term two is flying by, and we find ourselves past the half way point already. As always, we have
a jammed packed calendar of events and opportunities for students that celebrate the spectrum
of achievement from academic to sporting and wellbeing. Shining lights so far this term, have
been the whole school fundraising efforts for the cancer council’s World’s Biggest Morning Tea
and our annual Athletics Carnival. Both events showcase our students at their very best;
community minded, active and engaged. Thank you to the year 12 students in particular for their
fundraising efforts and the very best of luck to those girls who are representing our school at the
zone athletics carnival.
We have also been busy in the area of student wellbeing this term. Our Positive Behaviour for
Learning (PBL) rewards shop is opening in the next few weeks and promises to have a great
variety of popular items and prizes that students can trade their REACH tokens for. We encourage
all students to continue to strive to earn these tokens and help build a LGHS culture of respect,
excellence, safety, cooperation and honesty. Also keep an eye open for the addition of our new
Wellbeing Wall. This collection of carefully coordinated take home resources covers topics such
as anti-bullying, gay and lesbian support groups, mental health concerns, anti-smoking, cyber
issues and much more. These resources will be readily available to all students and kept up to
date and current.
With the cooler months upon us, it is timely to remind families that the MUE uniform shop next to
Liverpool library is the sole supplier of uniforms for LGHS students. So far this winter the standard
of uniform has slipped with a variety of jumpers and incorrect shoes making their way to school.
We want to remind everyone that hooded jackets/jumpers of any kind are not part of our uniform,
neither are long sleeved shirts under blouses nor hats or caps. Only school caps are to be worn
and these are available at the front office. Repeat offenders of uniform breaches can expect to
receive after school detentions as we refocus our attentions on this issue over the coming months.
Another of our key focus areas at the moment are the consistent late arrivals to school in the
mornings, particularly our senior students. A system of students giving up their privilege of leaving
early on Fridays has already begun for those who are repeatedly late during any given week. Of
course, explained and reasonable explanations for late arrival are accepted, however, coffee and
breakfast detours at Westfield and local cafes are not.
Finally, we would like to invite our LGHS families to become more involved in the school and your daughter’s education. Our recently formed Parent and Citizens group warmly welcomes all comers to our meetings, which are held at 6pm, on Wednesday of Week 10 of each term. Our next meeting is Wednesday 3rd July at 6pm at Liverpool Girls High School, we look forward in seeing you all there. If you are unable to make the meetings, but would still like to keep up to date and informed about both your daughter’s education and the day to day running’s of the school, we invite you to sign up to be a part of our Parent and Student Portal. This online portal allows you to access your daughter’s timetable, daily attendance and see the daily events running at the school. We will be holding parent information sessions to help parents set up their account and a look at the features this apps has. Notes have gone home and are also available on our Facebook page. Sessions include, Tuesday 18 June at 9am, 4pm and 6pm and also Wednesday 19 June at 12pm, 4pm and 6pm. Please RSVP your day and session as individual passwords are allocated. This new system for parents and eventually for students will handy and beneficial to all.

Library News Semester 2
Thursday 6th June Excursion to Kings Comics Sydney for Manga Resources.
Sixteen lovely girls from Years 7 – 11, who expressed an interest in Manga for their future studies
in Visual Arts, Society and Culture, English or Visual Design, accompanied Mrs Knott to the city.
The Library is continuing its links with local Primary Schools through Readers’ Theatre.
Students from Years 7-10 have visited both Warwick Farm Public School and Liverpool Public
School to work on Literacy activities and reading. These visits will continue throughout the year.
Indigenous Literacy Foundation. A total of $40 was raised by selling off old Library books to
students. This will allow new books to be put into family homes for people in remote areas of
Australia to promote Literacy. Thank you everyone who bought a book.
Just a reminder: That all students need to return their borrowed books to the Library by the due
date!
Mrs Knott (Library Teacher),
Mrs Roache and Ms Churton (Library Assistants)
Manager Siobhan Coombs, who visited the Library in Term 4
2018, showed students the latest publications and talked about
both the content and career opportunities in this Genre.
These suggestions by the girls will help with the ongoing Library
purchases.

#STEM@LGHS
Year 7 have been working hard this year in STEM. Students have been exposed to
problems in a variety of contexts and have been given the opportunity to develop their
problem solving and collaboration skills as a means of finding appropriate solutions. Their
learning experiences have ranged from engineering challenges, to robotics, to Lego
building. The real challenge was to discover how to pilot and manoeuvre robots such as
Ozobots and Lego Mindstorms and guide them through mazes and obstacle courses.
Students have also used creativity to work through the design process of questioning,
planning, creating and improving, to communicate ideas using a variety of media. STEM
classes have mastered filming techniques to plan, produce, edit and star in a range of
informative and engaging Digital Citizenship videos in order to share important messages
with their peers.
Later this year students will reflect on what makes a good game and develop skills in
coding and game design to create a playable, interactive game that can be modified and
enhanced for optimum enjoyment. They will also utilise skills from previous terms to plan,
design and build working models, including a functioning Rube Goldberg machine!
There are many exciting things happening in the world of STEM and students at LGHS
are getting an early start in a field where the only limit, is their imaginations.

Sport Report
OPEN BASKETBALL – This year the Open Girls Basketball knockout was played as
a central venue competition. The competition was held at Minto Indoor Sports Centre.
In round 1, Liverpool defeated St John’s Park HS 48-2. In the second round, Liverpool
defeated Casula HS 24-12. Having 2 successfully wins allowed us to progress to the
second central venue day, where we were unfortunately defeated by the eventually
winners of the SSW Basketball tournament, Miller HS. It was a closely contested
match with us going down 49-45. Congratulations to the Open Basketball team on
your efforts this year.
OPEN SOCCER – Our Open girls soccer team were defeated 1-0 by Fairvale HS in
the pouring rain. It was a very close contest in which either team could have won. With
great sadness we farewell our year 12 students, Sofija Kozul, Natalija Cubrilo,
Andrijana Djuric, Susana Tuivaiti, Johanna Vili and Annalisse Matavao. Most of whom
have represented our school and themselves with distinction over a very successful 6
year period of Soccer culminating in 3, final 8 central venue appearances in Sydney
South West.
FUTSAL – Liverpool Girls competed in the NSW Futsal championships in May
defeating Picton HS, John Edmondson HS and International Grammar School and
narrowly losing to Campbelltown Performing Arts HS, to top their pool before going
down to eventual champions Gungahlin College in the semi finals. The girls played
amazing all day and were a credit to LGHS.
TENNIS – 2019, saw the rebuilding of our school tennis team with most of the team
graduating in 2018. Round 1 saw them matched up against Holsworthy HS who
unfortunately had to forfeit the match. Round 2 saw us up against Moorebank HS,
where they unfortunately lost in a closely contested 5-3 match. This year’s team has
worked hard to prepare for the 2019 Knockout tournament and has built a solid
foundation for the years to come.
JUNIOR SOCCER – Our Under 15's Soccer team were involved in this year's Bill
Turner Trophy K/O Tournament. They put in a lot of time and effort into training and
developing their gameplay and team work. They had a successful first game despite
the wet and windy conditions against Picton winning 2-1. In their second round they
had an unfortunate but honourable loss to John Edmondson 3-1. The team should be
very proud of their efforts.
Thankyou to all the coaches who have given up their time to coach these teams and
provide their guidance and expertise in supporting our students involvement in Sydney
South West Sport.

TERM 2 JUNE 2019
2019 Cross Country Carnival On the 6th of May 2019, Liverpool Girls held our annual Cross Country event with many promising athletes aiming for the Top 10 spots to lead them forward towards Zone. Arriving upon Jacquie Osmond Reserve, the weather was in perfect conditions to compete, and as well, have a fun day overall. With the management of the PDHPE Staff and the support of the other staff faculties; teachers who were seated throughout the racing trail, teachers who helped write the names of those students that placed, and as well as teachers who participated in the races along with the students. As we were waiting for the age events to begin, students took camp in either the sun or shade revealing all the goodies they brought along to feast upon, with any entertainment of all sorts such as music, playing cards and games to keep themselves busy throughout the day. As for myself, the butterflies got to me as the anticipation of the 17 years+ race would begin at any moment. Mr Dixon yelling into the megaphone initiating the first race of the day was about to start, also didn't help my nerves. All the runners participating gathered in the marshalling area, all their faces painted with determination. Not long after, the sound of the siren blazed loudly and we were off. Those who competed ran to get the furthest lead ahead in the race, while the rest of the seniors who engaged in the event for their sport hours, took a stroll through the field. Colourful cones paired with the encouragement from the teachers kept myself going, until the sight of the finish line was in complete view. Increasing my pace, the distance between me and the finish line grew smaller, I pushed my muscles to the very limit until passing through the finish line. 2nd place! With competitions out of the way, I enjoyed myself a snag straight from the barbie leaving the rest of my day relaxing and peaceful and cheering on fellow peers who ran the race as well. All in all, students and teachers had a great time as a school, therefore resulting that 2019 Cross Country has been an overall success! Congratulations to the following age champions.
12 years – Abigail Bonsu
13 years – Asmet Taha
14 years – Keira Whittingham
15 years – Michelle Eliu
16 years – Crystal Tong
17 years – Zeinab Ayad
18 years – Ashwa Al Kalmashi
The carnival was won by Beachley (344 points) followed by Freeman (312 points), Ellis (273 points) and Jackson (209 points).
Good luck to the students you have been chosen to represent Liverpool Girls in the next level!
Written by Carna Yilmaz (Year 11) A Cross Country Team was selected to represent Liverpool Girls High in the Edmondson Zone carnival on the 23rd May at Lake Gillawarna. Our school had 48 competitors competing at the zone carnival with 20 students making it through to next level, regionals. Congratulations to Claire Whittingham who won the 12 years event and was awarded age champion. Liverpool Girls also had 3 students who were runners up in their age group. Ashwa Al Kalmashi (18 years), Zeinab Ayad (17years) and Crystal Tong (16 years).
Congratulations all competitors on achieving excellence in cross country running. Good luck to all competitors at the upcoming SSW Cross County Carnival. PDHPE Faculty

TERM 2 JUNE 2019
Year 11 PDHPE and SLR Camp 2019
During week 3 of Term 2, students from PDHPE and SLR were offered the opportunity to attend
a 3 day camp to reinforce topics covered in class.
The camp was a 5 hour drive away to Forster on the Mid North Coast. For many of our students,
this was the first time they spent a few days away from their families, many hours away from their
homes.
Our girls were confronted with a multitude of outdoor activities that challenged their fears and
encouraged everyone to work together as a cohesive team. Exciting and challenging activities
included Mudworld, High ropes course, Giant swing and Flying fox just to name a few.
The camp has brought the
students closer together as they
built stronger bonds through
teamwork activities.
A big thank you to Ms. Quigley for
organising this camp, without her
dedication in offering our students
a variety of authentic learning
experiences, and recreation
camps would not run at Liverpool
Girls.

Volleyball Team Report 2019
Team List
Susana Tuivaiti Johanna Vili (VC)
Qasia Isoefo Lydia Vili
Annalisse Matavao Americus Smith
Carna Yilmaz Angela Herman Loto
Gordon Walker Lavenia Tuivaiti
Team Manager: McKenzie Dawkins
The open Girls Volleyball team defeated Sefton HS in a preliminary
round which allowed our team to progress through to Round 1
against Ingleburn HS. Our girls were a bit intimidated by the crowds
of spectators, however, this did not stop their drive for the win.
Liverpool Girls HS won this narrowly, which was due to their ability
to work as team and utilise everyone strength on the court. Round
2 we hosted the game for St Johns Park HS, which was another
close match coming down to the 5th set. We unfortunately lost by 2
points in the last set, but this was one of those games where either
team could have won in the end.
Our girls showed the highest standard of sportsmanship, not only
shaking hands after the match, but organising and facilitating a
large team prayer to congratulate St John Park HS on their
amazing effort. The Captain Susana Tuivaiti and Vice-Captain
Johanna Vili should be commended on their leadership and
supportive roles to ensure all players had guidance and
encouragement. The entire team have displayed teamwork,
commitment, resilience and positivity which was a pleasure to be
involved with. Congratulations to the Open Volleyball team on a
very successful season, your coach and manager are filled with
pride

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Since the exciting launch of the school’s Positive Behaviour for Learning last year, the school has
been focusing on the promotion of positive behaviour within the school. We have been equipping
our students with skills in how to positively deal with certain situations and interact in a more
positive way with all members of the community. We have had 5 lessons so far this year with
each lesson focusing on: Mobile Phone use; Anti-bullying; Physical Violence; Social Media and
Rude and Disrespectful Behaviour. Each of these is taught as a 10 – 15 minute lesson within
class time and is held at the same time throughout the school so that all students are educated
on how to deal with these issues at the same time as their peers.
This term we are asking that all students hand in all of their old REACH awards as we are going
to be hold a barrel draw in week 9 to reward those students who have been achieving REACH
awards within their classes. The students will have the opportunity to win Gift Vouchers, some
totalling up to $50.
A new reward system has been in place since Term 2, as we were phasing out the REACH
awards and replacing them with REACH Tokens!
In Term 3, we will be launching the “PBL Shop” and this is where students will be able to “cash-
in” their REACH tokens for prizes such as Phone Accessories, Musical Instruments and Sound
Equipment, Entertainment Vouchers, Hair and Beauty and Educational Packs. This is an exciting
venture and the aim is for students to strive towards positive behaviour and interactions within all
school settings. They will be rewarded for these behaviours with REACH Tokens and with these
tokens, they will be able to purchase some amazing prizes. More details will be given to the
students and parents regarding this new and exciting venture in Term 3.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) continued.
At Liverpool Girls High School we promote Positive Behaviour for Learning and actively
encourage all students to follow the expected behaviours in all areas of the school. To help the
students will this, a REACH Matrix was devised and signage to help students has been placed
around the school for the students to refer to.
