PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Mother’s Day Breakfast

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday morning a great success. It was great that plenty of mums and nans were able to join their children for this special morning to celebrate Mother’s Day at our school. Our thanks go to Tracey, Patricia, Joanne, Helen, Tony, Liam and Frank who organised and prepared the sensational breakfast.

Guitar Lessons

Last chance for beginners’ guitar group on Tuesday. Anyone interested in learning to play guitar should let Mr Cox know before lessons on Tuesday this week. Lessons cost $50 per term for tuition.

P and C Fundraising

Our hardworking P&C were busy cooking and serving

again on Saturday with a fundraising BBQ at Bunnings.

These fundraisers for our school benefit all our

students. At future BBQs we will be raising money for

specific class requests so we look forward to parents

from every class being involved to help their child and

the whole class with extra resources.

Bingo Our first Bingo on Friday was a great afternoon of fun

and competition. It was wonderful to see many new

faces in the school and we look forward to the next

Bingo afternoon on the 25th.

Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)

The AEDC is a nationwide measure that looks at how

well children across Australia are growing up or

‘developing’. Every three years teachers of children in

their first year of full-time school used an early

development instrument – similar to a questionnaire –

for every child in their class.

The Australian version of the Early Development

Instrument is completed based on a teacher's

knowledge and observations of the children in their

class. There is no need for parents or children to

provide any new or extra information to schools for the

AEDC. Children are not taken out of class and do not

need to be present while their teacher uses the Early

Development Instrument.

The AEDC is collected every three years in schools

across Australia. Your child’s participation in the AEDC

is voluntary. If you do not want your child to participate

in the AEDC, please notify your child’s school

immediately.

For more information visit the AEDC website www.aedc.gov.au. NAPLAN – Years 3 and 5 This week NAPLAN Assessments for students in Years 3 and 5 will take place on Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th May mornings. Students in Years 3 and 5 will be completing the assessments before recess on each of these days. Any student who is absent will have the opportunity to complete any assessments they missed on Friday 18th. If you have any queries, concerns or have a strong desire for your child not to participate in these assessments, please contact the school principal to discuss.

Social Skills

We are publishing our focus social skill for parents to

also reinforce and encourage at home. Our new focus

News from the 5/6 Classroom

Kindergarten News

Last week Kindergarten met their 3/4 buddies

on Friday afternoon. In this session students

learnt to login into their Department Portal.

Kindergarten are very much looking forward

to the rest of these technology sessions with

3/4.

We are fortunate to have three teachers

working in the classroom during Mathematics

lessons. This allows us to adjust our lessons

according to student need in the class. This

term, the students have been expanding on

their skills in counting, reading, writing and

ordering two and three-digit numbers.

5/6 have been busily fundraising for our excursion to Dubbo in Term 4. We have been fundraising to lower our final total cost. There will shortly be a note coming home for you to secure your place on the bus with a $50 deposit. Thank you for your continued support- it will be an amazing experience, staying overnight at the Western Plains Zoo and visiting Lake Burrendong.

Why is reading 20 mins each school night so important?

By the end of year 6 student A has read

60 whole days, student B 12 days and

- Focus of the Week

Being a good sport –

Children who are good sports will become known as kids who are fun to play with. Kids might not

be as eager to play with someone who gets upset all the time and won't ever give the others a

chance and change the rules to suit.

Be a ‘good sport’ by:

● Playing fair and by the rules - learn the rules and stick to them.

● Give everyone a go - be willing to share the game,

● Encourage your team-mates – inspire everyone to enjoy the game.

Make it a ‘good game’ if you win or lose.

Lindon really enjoyed making his own

sand and soil truck with his weekly

mentor Samantha. What a great effort.
